This was my first visit to Liz based on positive feedback I'd seen on NextDoor. I've lived around the corner from her shop for 22 years but only now had a need for a true professional. Liz was able to expertly tailor my wedding gown for a fair and reasonable price. She provided a viable solution of how to fix the biggest problem (tight upper arm sleeves) when there was no seam allowance. There was additional work to take up the shoulders, fix the arm holes, let out hips slightly, and add a bustle. All on lined, very heavy crêpe fabric with no lace (nowhere to hide any mistakes!) Literally a few cm in each measurement. Skilled work like this is completed with the talent and expertise only someone very experienced can achieve. Went to try Liz's tailor for some basic alterations on a new sport coat I bought. At first everything looked great, but then I realized some damage to the lapel. I have no doubt that the tailor was responsible because it was a brand new coat. The damage can not be fixed and the coat I've never worn is ruined. When I confronted the employees they refused to retake responsibility or even give me a refund. In the end I paid a high fee for them to destroy my jacket. Do not go here. read more

There are two dressing rooms for you to change in and also a seating area for kids/friend/etc. Liz is great and definitely knows what to do to make your dress/pants/etc fit you. I came in to get a dress hemmed for a wedding, and she also noticed the dress was loose in the back which I hadn't noticed previously from trying it on. The dress was ready in a week and fits perfectly! The WORST. I will never go back there. I asked to have some patches sewn on some backpacks (laptop bags for employees) four out of five had to be redone. One of those, was stitched at a 45 degree angle! OBVIOUSLY not straight, and they let that go back to the customer- me. The others were also crooked and they made them right. Except they tried to argue with me to tell me one of these wasn't crooked. Shouldn't THEY be the professional and have the better eye? Why do I have to point out a simple problem and wait another three days after driving back to have them corrected? I found out, these were done by the lazy-ass teen in the shop. read more

I brought a pair of jeans to try out the place to be tailored and they came out perfect. They helped me with the hem length and the taper I wanted and showed me how it would look when it is done. I highly recommend bringing your denim here for them if anyone's having thoughts. I took my wedding outfit to Liz's a month ago for my wedding in 3 weeks. She sent me away saying it was too soon to alter. She said to come back in a month, it would only take her 1 week to do and should cost about $110, $130 max (it's not even a big dress, just a 2-layer skirt and a top). As she said to do, I went back yesterday, understanding I drove an hour to get there because someone recommended her. She was incredibly rude. Said she didn't know if she could get it done in a week because she's going on vacation. That I should've come in SOONER. I was completely shocked... since, you know.... it's not like I can just push my wedding back. In a rather rude tone told me she could do just the skirt (at this point I figured I would at least have part of the outfit done). During the fitting process she offered no advice, placed 2 pins and rolled her eyes more than once. Finally, I go to check out and she tells me to take the waist in one inch and pull the slit up 3 inches (on a 2 layer skirt) is going to be $100. When I asked her why it was that much when the top needed MUCH more work and she had told me TOGETHER that they would cost $110. She didn't even answer. She just said maybe I should go somewhere else. Honestly I would've understood had she been AT ALL gracious about the fact that she couldn't get what I wanted done. But her tone and demeanor were absolutely awful. I felt completely terrible walking out of that place not to mention panicked about the fact that I need final alterations for a wedding in 3 weeks. Either she has no clients, which is why she feels like she has to charge $24 (cash only) for a minor lengthening of a toddler pajama, or she just has no idea that it is ridiculously expensive. She quoted me $24 bucks and said it would take almost 1 week to complete. Her hourly rate for that job would have been almost $300. When pointing out the prices lists on the wall, they said, NO. That is False Advertising!!!!!!!!!!!! do not go there. I can't believe they have not been shut down. That is cheating the customer, by posting one price on a sign, the customer agreeing to it, then charging triple the price, and not telling the customer they plan on changing their price from what is on the wall, when the customer is charged. DO NOT GO HERE. If you could see the finished product you would say they aren't professional seamstresses. The charge that was not reflective on any price list was just the bust to it all. I had two items that needed to be altered, one was a very intricate bridesmaid dress and another was a sheer jumpsuit. Both items needed to be hemmed, taken in at the waist, and adjusted. I was nervous that because of the material of both items, it wouldn't turn out like I needed. But the services exceeded all my expectations, and I'm a VERY picky person. It took about two weeks to get my items back, but it was worth the wait because of the overall quality of the work. The only downside is was the price. For two items, it was about $40 each, which I think it quite steep, but both items needed a bit of work. I've definitely found my seamstress here in Houston! read more

After they charged an outrageous $40 for the pants I tried them on to find out the length was too short and not at all what i asked for. I have been patronizing Liz's for more than 5 years and have been very pleased. She is the owner and runs the shop very well. She is knowledgeable, adept at fitting and is able to consistently deliver items at the day and time agreed on. Liz is friendly and courteous, also warm and helpful. One more thing: she can scale up or down the quality of work to suit your needs. We were filming some Bible stories and needed numerous priest and soldier costumes for the kids, but we're on a budget and didn't need perfection.
