Although this one is probably the biggest and branches into kids shoes as well as adults. There is a lovely range of gladiator sandals ready for the summer on the right hand side of the shop (as you look at it) that made me go 'oooh' for a second before I realised I've not booked a holiday this year and England is too cold for sandals. Also on this side of the shop are the shoes that make you wonder 'do real people buy these or just the strippers?' There are a few stand-alone units that tend to have all the sale shoes on - if you're lucky you can get a fashionable bargain here. And then there's the kids' shoes on the other side, which freaks me out a bit when you hear the thick scouse accent exclaim "eh girl look at these - they'd be boss on the baby!". My opinion on how to dress kids is like this: until they are old enough to think for themselves they should be dressed like children. Not like Britney Spears. Shoes for children should be bought from Clark's and nowhere else. However, I think I'm pretty much alone in that. So: get your shoes from here if you want them cheap but fashionable and fairly sturdy, unless you're buying from the kids' section, in which case prepare for my disdainful looks!!

Maybe it's because I'm not from Liverpool and I travel from Huddersfield to get away from seeing same old same old. I only wish we had a shop similar to This. They sell a lot of well known brands such as Adidas, Converse and Fred Perry so if this is your taste, then I would obviously recommend a good old browse! There is a wide range of different styles for women on the ground floor and men on the upper floor. Sometimes, you may be lucky enough to grab an item on sale. Prices do vary from mid-range to high depending on the style and material. If any drawbacks, I did find the background music very loud and it felt as though I was walking into a club. It is annoying (coupled with the heat of the shop) when you're trying to concentrate and communicate with others, especially if you dislike the music!

They have a huge range of shoes and boots of all different styles. Whether you're looking for a pair of killer heels or a comfy pair of trainers you will find something here. The staff are very friendly and helpful and as soon as you look around for someone to help you, a bubbly assistant will appear. They are more than happy to go and find your size in as many different styles as you like, rushing back and forth if things need to be changed. They stay close by whilst you are trying things on and will chat to you quite happily. They also have a good selection of bags and purses behind the counter. If your size is not in stock they will try and locate one in another of their stores for you, or they will order one specially which will arrive in a couple of days. I have had to return a faulty item once and the staff were polite and apologetic and arranged a replacement for me. As far as prices go, there is a big range here. You can get a cheap basic item, or spend as much as you like on something a bit special. They often have sales and special offers on so you can pick up a bargain.

Not that I get to indulge that often, which is why I tend to shop in Primark. Anyway. Kurt Geiger shoes are beautiful. I remember they had some Dorothy a la Wizard of Oz red glitter heels - I believe I clutched them and shrieked "there's no place like home" in the middle of the shop, amidst funny looks. Another addition to the Met Quarter's posh shops, they let you come in and try different shoes on without getting uppity, which is nice. The shop assistants also let me play out my "I'm really too rich to be here" fantasy, which is always nice. What else can I say? Great shoes at a not-so-great price, but then they're designer darling. The occasional sale makes you feel a little better. The shoe wall is immense and the staff leave you to your own devices.

Staff are friendly and there to help you no matter how busy they are. I did find the place a bit crammed for comfort and the background music was a little loud, so I had to raise my voice when speaking to staff. Other than that, I can't fault this gem of a shop.

They will spend hours looking at luridly coloured limited edition trainers but when it comes to proper leather shoes they will shy away from looking - a cursory trip to the shoe rack of their favourite menswear shop or maybe a branch of Clark's is about as much as they can handle. All that brown and black leather it does something to the eyes after a while, I swear. So it's hardly a surprise that I haven't been able to get very excited by Aldo. Once inside this branch though I found myself impressed by the layout spacious and bright - a contrast to the usual dark narrow Aldo stores I've visited in the Trafford and Arndale Centres. The range of men's shoes though did little to spark my already failing interests; the soft leather and narrow fit (a few too many winklepickers) were not really to my tastes. The prices were reasonable enough though (with a great pair of brown brogues for £70) and the staff were very friendly and helpful; offering to order in a size of shoe that they didn't have with no obligation to buy them once they arrived in. And women's shoes are quite another matter - As I left I could see hordes of women frothing over heels, boots and handbags. Good luck to them I thought, I'm off to watch World's Strongest Man.
