My partner took the food back and the man who I spoke to was also very rude to him and did not want to refund him for the x2 potato scallops for some reason? Uneatable, old and over cooked (probably reheated) seafood that I would be too scared to eat in a heart beat with horrible service. It's changed a lot in the last few years but you can tell from the growth of this once small takeaway noodle shop that it's a great hot spot for many South Brisbane locals. "Quick pick" meals get out to you in less than 5 minutes and main are just a little bit longer but all the much more filling. I even had a time that my meal came out to me before I went to sit at my table! The staff are friendly and the restaurant is a really nice and cosy setting. So big most of the ingredients fell out the bottom onto the paper bag it came in after my first and second bite (don't you hate that). I would be lying if I said the burger sucked because I couldn't get my act together enough to hold it together literally, but it was quite nice. It was value for money and I was definetely full after that, don't even get me started on the chips we ordered, we couldn't touch them. If I could offer any critique, it would be that the burgers could be a bit smaller (never thought i'd say that) and maybe the buns could be toasted a little more so they didn't just fall apart into the burger falling through the burger. Ambience *** The restaurant is blockaded by glass panelling so you can be sure you're corraled into the correct place. Marble tabletops, dark wood chair legs and cream leather cushions on the seats indicate that when this place first opened, it was immaculate. Now, well, it still has a swish groovy feeling, but you know its starting to wear. The kitchen is open; you can watch your chefs with their funky hats on cook your meal if you're sitting close enough, which would be good, except they need a uniform upgrade, they're looking a bit shabby for an open kitchen. There's a sauce station near the cashier, where you can help yourself to a multitude of spicy or mild options. I couldn't hear any music, and no doubt because half the restaurant is open-air, where the other half is a little dark and intimate. The flavour was okay, I couldn't put my finger on it at first, but I realised halfway through dinner that mine tasted like (okay, stick with me here) strawberry jelly crystals. If you were ever a jelly crystal eating kid, you will know what I mean. It was definitely strawberry flavoured, with these little bubbles of flavour which burst into your mouth, and there was evidence of some fruit pulp/ seed in the frappe, but I wouldn't hesitate to say there's a good bunch of artificial flavouring in them, too. The food came out fairly quickly after the frappes, hubby's first, and I kind of cocked my head at the sight of the button mushrooms. Now, I'm no Singaporean cook, and I'm quite likely wrong, but I've never seen mushrooms in a beef and blackbean before. I brought the doggie bag (yes they do) to work for lunch today. Yum! Additional notes VERY IMPORTANT! This venue is CASH ONLY. There are ATMs back out on Albert Street, just turn right and head up to the NAB ATMs (of which there are 3). Also, Little Singapore's trading hours, according to the sign on the window, says its open til at least 10pm every night. I'm not going to guarantee that, but if you are out late having a good night, might be worth a pop-in for a pre 'sleep-off-the-impending-hangover' meal. This restaurant could make a better profit by cutting down portions. I might be sounding racist, and if I am, I don't mean to offend, but I can't tell if Asian restaurants have become accustomed to serving larger portions to deal with Western appetites or whether these are normal portion sizes. The bun was toasted to a crisp perfection, the right balance of ketchup to mustard and a meat patty that had some oomph to it. The shop itself reminds me of a fish and chip shop my family would visit growing up. That's to say its basic, no frills. It doesn't need it. Plus the food is without pomp and it all works to create a very distinct charm. Not a subway tile, wooden chair or metal light shade in sight! For less than $20 we got 2 burgers. Carolina Kitchen is a family business owned by an expat from South Carolina, Mike Perry, located on a quiet suburban street in Coopooroo. Already there is a massive following on their Facebook group, with regulars and new comers singing their praises for the Buffalo Wings and BBQ Ribs. Both times I've been for a Saturday lunch, we've booked to save us a table. The place fills up quickly, so if you have more than 2 people, I would definitely suggest booking ahead of time. The BBQ ribs are so juicy and covered in sauce, and the Buffalo wings pack a punch with the original spicy sauce. Dip the wings in the blue cheese dipping sauce to cool your mouth. They have a wide variety of different flavoured Coke, Dr Pepper and Fanta - flavours you don't usually get in Australia. Cherry Dr Pepper tastes like sugary baby Panadol, but I love it! For a serious feed you can either go with one of the Hoagies - a sandwich on a long, Sub roll - or a burger "All The Way". That means everything including onions. There's cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and hamburgers, as well as Hot Dogs. Unfortunately, during my last visit they didn't have any Pie for sale, but quite often they will be selling a Pumpkin, Cherry or Pecan pie by the slice. I did manage to place an order for a Pumpkin pie to take home for Christmas. $30 for a whole sweet pie - traditional American style Pumpkin pie!
