This store has nice unique pieces and friendly staff however, the prices are ridiculously high. I was recently in the store and noticed a Drum Chandelier that caught my eye for $399. I did a little shopping around and was able to purchase the same light at The Home Depot for $179. This is more than 200% markup which is unacceptable. While in the store that day I did purchase a mirror that had to be taken down from the wall and put back in it packaging. That was kind of a turnoff. While this store does have nice pieces, I dont believe I will shop here again due to price gouging. There are plenty of alternatives to living mode. read more

My husband and I have passed this store several times and have been curious about what was inside. We decided to stop in today. Immediately my husband noticed some really cool lamps. Unfortunately the business did not get a sale since neither of the two gentlemen working there bothered to acknowledge they had customers in the store. Living Modes is not your typical furniture store. They do not stock ten different styles of recliners or a room full of couches that carry on the shabby chic "dorm room" aesthetic some people want to install in their basement. Taupe and its sisters on the safe and neutral spectrum rarely make an appearance; nor does Grandma's favourite floral. It's not a store where you can really play it safe. Instead, come here for your statement decor pieces. A giant wireframe lamp shaped like a knee-high boot and a bronze statuette in 70s bellbottoms and platforms stomping her way across your table are a sampling of what they had on hand. Most of the first floor showcases interior design elements: mirrors, frames, wall art, table knick-knackery. These pieces do not come cheaply. Add a zero to all expectations to play it safe, though you can be sure no one else will have a shocked stainless steel cut-out chair at the kitchen table quite like yours. The upstairs showroom features the larger pieces of furniture in tight configurations. Catalog orders are necessary given the limited floor space. Among others, I eyed a futuristic rolled vinyl-esque loveseat and mod 60s fabric couches in shades of vermilion and lime. The low-slung violet chaises brought memories of the Oakland, as does the fishbowl chandelier hanging over the very steep staircase, but they are awfully rich for even this girl's blood. $1,700 for a seat for two is definitely a choice of an investment piece, though it may be your thing. I've discovered that Living Modes doesn't quite appeal to my taste. I slant strongly towards traditional European (start thinking Versailles or the Hermitage to get in the right direction) or boldly modern, and the introduction of a bit of whimsy or kitsch can get a bit too much. I appreciate what they're doing here, but it's really not what I am after. The sparse selection and the narrow focus will work for some, but didn't really live up to what I was hoping for. It feels honestly like Vogue Vintage opened up a furniture store across Woodward. 2.5 stars for an interesting array of pieces and quietly approachable staff, but a very limited purview and high prices. read more

If you are looking for contemporary furniture then Living Modes has a decent selection. Unfortunately, their business model is from the 80's and their customer service is even more outdated. I ordered 2 chairs and was told I would receive them in 2 to 4 weeks. That seemed like a long time to receive a couple of chairs that were prominently displayed in their front window. I'm surprised they didn't have it in inventory or in a nearby warehouse. After 6-weeks I had to call the store to find out the chairs were not in shipment and that it would take another 4-weeks to be delivered. In this day and age I can't fathom waiting 4 to 10 weeks for a non customized piece of furniture. I was irritated that I had to reach out to them first and that they never provided me any updates. They did cancel the order and refund my deposit but quite frankly, I do not know how they are still in business??? Oh by the way, I did get the exact same chairs online for 25% cheaper and delivered to my door in less than 2-weeks. read more

This store does have some beautiful pieces. Is it over priced? Highly! I have purchased a few things from this store over the years but after my last experience I will no longer be shopping here. I purchased a mirror, called to make sure they had it, it was all ready packed up and ready to be taken out to my car. I thought that was fantastic! Well, I really wish that would not have happened as when I got home and looked over the mirror I found tons of gouges and scratches all over the mirror. I contacted the store within 5 hours of my purchase, it took them 2 weeks to even care to get back to me. Long story short the outcome was "we will give you 10.00 off" are you kidding me?! what a joke. I will now be spreading the word of how this place takes advantage of people and no one bothers to look of the pieces they sell to there customers. read more

If modern, (if indeed it was even that) eclectic furniture is your thing, then this is your place. There were some unique and interesting pieces, but truly not my thing. I did find a snowman statue and he looked so out of place. amongst the high end statues, glass and metal figurines. The staff is very friendly. Loved the lil' old man who was manning the clearance section of the store. It's a bit expensive for me but I have absolutely no taste when it comes to furniture. If you are into contemporary and art deco furniture then Casual Modes is for you. Don't let the term "art deco" paint some 60's picture for you. Casual Modes has the most unique pieces I have ever seen in a furniture store. Bright and bold colors, clean lines and things that will simply make you go hmmmm! The store is small but it has 3 different areas to serve you, one being an upstairs open space. The owner is usually in the store and he has two additional sales team members. Even if you aren't looking to purchase anything for your home I suggest simply stopping in to admire the pieces of art some have titled furniture. read more

My mother and I have been shopping with Casual Living before it became Living Modes, Mr. Sherman at the time was the person you would see, we have purchase from them since then and still have the items, from marble glass tables t o clear glass tables and they are still in excellent condition, they have actually made tables for me if it could be done, its contemporary and many other things, if I want something that no one else has I would go to Living Modes, Even though my mom has passed on this is still my store!!!!!! If you love ultra modern, unique furniture, this place is for you. If you are looking for grandpa's recliner, don't even go in. This place has lots of truly unique furniture and decorative accents and lighting that you will not see in every other cookie cutter furniture store. The prices are higher than a Gardner White type furniture but you will not see furniture like this in every home you go into. Great store, service is great and they do special orders! I have been shopping at Living Modes since it was in the previous location down the street and they have ALWAYS appealed to the 'non mainstream' taste. Call it eclectic, eccentric, nouveau or whatever, you will find one of a kind statement pieces in Living Modes. If you want tradition, conservative or some such, this is not the place for you.
