Very personable and knowledgeable about the wiring of my house. He explained the problem well, told my the likely and unlikely causes and worked on the likely ones before stating on the unlikely ones, which we wound up not needing. He's one of those people that give contractors a bad name. He's slow, full of excuses, spent our deposit on other things and then ran out of $ for materials he owed per the contract, and made lots of errors that cost us lots to fix after the fact. Bruce was really nice, but his promptness and professionalism left something to be desired. He doesn't have a car, so he had to Uber to my condo. This became a problem when the job, which should have only taken one day, turned into 4 separate appointments. This included a consultation, initial work, follow up to complete the work, and then another day to complete a "separate" wiring issue he said needed fixing to get up to code. I gave Bruce a call outlining the work I needed to be done in my home (grounding a panel) at 10:00 A.M. He estimated that if it was a simple job he could do it the same evening (at 5:30 P.M.) He had me send photos to him by text (21st century electrician!), talked with me briefly about the history of work I'd had done to date, and told me what steps he would take. When he came over, he looked at a few other issues, told me what steps he would take in order to correct them, and made plans to come by the next night to conduct a considerable amount of work at a VERY reasonable cost. After the initial estimate, my wife walked him through a few more things that she thought were problematic, and he came up with an estimate and schedule to fix those tasks. Let me tell you, I am a project manager for a living and he is fantastic from that viewpoint. I spend most of my time figuring out how to manage contractors and Bruce is one of the first guys who I felt was being 100% on board and proactive in addressing problems. Anyway, to conclude, he finished the work after spending a half hour longer than his estimate, eating the cost, and walking me through each step that he made when he conducted the job. He's a consummate professional. Would hire again and would only hire any other electrician in great duress. read more

Unbelievably horrible experience with Kristen Laird/Live Wire! Similar story as the other 1 star reviews but much worse. Kristen took our deposit early, strung us along for weeks before starting when she agreed to start right away, dragged the job on and on, full of excuses, incapable of meeting the deadlines she set and relayed to us, sloppy work, in places dangerous mistakes. Had to pay a MASTER electrician to fix her work. Lazy, deceptive, manipulative. Would advise against being drawn in by her low-ball quotes. Another reviewer said this contractor works under the license of JW Electric. We had an experience also with an electrician licensed under JW Electric, and I echo her advise STAY AWAY. JW Electric was used by the seller of our home when our inspector required such from seller to ensure the fuse box was repaired and that certain other electrical issues were brought to code (e.g. amp panels being in compliance, exposed wires in attic, and added outlets to be up to code in bedrooms, etc.). My guess is that the seller just paid this guy to write up some garbage, which we didn't know better to push back on, particularly since we were given it at closing. We uncovered a bunch of issues in the house that required we remove some walls, etc., upon which we found SO SO SO many electrical issues ranging from exposed wires that posed about 27 fire hazards throughout house, to majorly cooky wiring of HVAC units, etc., most of which were within walls so out of sight from inspectors. These were also clearly recently done work during the house flip, and not legacy bad wiring. Even many of the items on the letter we received from the contractor that he fixed were either no fully fixed or not fixed correctly (e.g., he added outlets and moved wiring based on inspector direction, but did so without identifying which circuit they were on we'd turn on a light in the upstairs bathroom and it would blow out the downstairs basement bedroom lights--WTF? From this yelp entry it's unclear if this is the same person, or if this license is just used fraudulently by a whole bunch of different people. Either way, beware. read more

He has been stringing me along for three days-calls, texts, and the worst of it all, he seemed so nice, knowledgable and reliable. But then he didn't show up for his appointment, and whenever I would call him he would say :" I'll be there in a little bit." Then at some point, he just stopped answering his phone and ignoring my texts. He dragged me from VA to DC with a baby b/c he would only accept in person payment by check, and then didn't show up. Totally wasted days of my valuable time. I am very disappointed and would urge you not to hire him. Very unreliable, very rude, very disrespectful. I'm stunned he had 4.5 star rating. Very untrue. Bruce installed a pair of sconces in my condo, which turned out beautifully. The task was not without complications, due to some surprises in the wall construction and old electrical work in my historical building. While I expect any electrician to know his craft -- which Bruce clearly does -- his ability to improvise and his grit made the difference in overcoming challenges which inevitably pop up in this old construction. Bruce treated the installation as if it were in his own home, showing as much care for the aesthetics as the electrical/mechanical task itself. He showed up precisely on time and was tidy. I read the reviews and thought, "I'll give it a shot." I have a rental property in the district I am trying to place on the market, and in the process of giving it a deep scrub a broken socket blew two fuses, causing none of the lights to work in the property. So in order to do any work we had to come during daylight hours, or run very long extension cords from the few sockets that still worked. I called and explained this to Bruce, he said he could come out the next day, the next day however, I managed to lock my keys in my car and ended up being 3 hours late for the appointment (I called to let him know, of course) But would you believe he still came?! And he didn't charge me extra for having already been on his way when I called to postpone! It took him maybe 20 to get the lights back on, then (because I paid the two hour minimum) I showed him a few other things that I wanted to change. He talked me down, I'll say that again (because I cant believe it) instead of taking my money and changing out the fixtures and other randoms fixes, he talked me down. He said when I sold the home the new tenants would change the fixtures again, so there was no reason to waste the money. He returned two days later to replace the socket hardware (the original problem) and change out a dimmer switch in another part of my home. Because he didn't bring the supplies necessary to finish the first job (new socket) when he returned, he waived the minimum fee and charged a mere 40 bucks to stop my lights from buzzing a flickering in another room. Overall it was a really good experience, and I would definitely call Bruce if in need of an electrician in the future. read more

WOW! I have never had an interaction with a service provider this honest and helpful. I called about a very simple electrical problem with a pendent light. He explained over the phone what he thought the problem was and explained that it was a simple job that he recommended I complete on my own as it would be much cheaper than hiring him. He even walked me through exactly how to do it over the phone. Essentially give me a free tutorial thus saving me $180!!! read more

More than three weeks later and multiple texts and emails, Bruce still has not bothered to send me the full appraisal, despite promising to do so. He clearly doesn't need any new business.
