They have a great array of matted photographic prints in all sizes, blown up versions for several hundred dollars on the walls and cute two-sided ornaments at $25. Most of the prints were of Northern Michigan images, predominantly Petoskey and Mackinac, in all four seasons. The photos were awesome. The guy credited with most of the photos, Joe Clark, is an amazing photographer. His work was more unique than most of the photographs I've seen of Northern and Upper Michigan. Most of the larger pieces are pricey, but beautiful. The owner told me that any image we wanted on a customized ornament can be done online through the gallery for $25. You only need to upload the images you want to the website and order it. Pretty easy, no? I think I'll do it for Christmas this year as a nifty memento for my wife and I.

Their packages are flexible, the setting is stunning, and Jim and Margaret were incredibly accommodating -- from letting my kiddo walk me down the aisle to helping with me ensure my wedding music. They were great. We're laid-back people who wanted something simple yet meaningful, and Jim completely "got us." We chose to exchange letters privately before the ceremony, leaving him to craft the words -- and he absolutely nailed it. His ceremony was heartfelt, emotional, full of laughter and love, and so us. Every guest commented on how touching and personal it was. A small but unforgettable detail -- I've always loved birch trees, and I fell in love with the big birch on their property during our visit. The week before the wedding, Jim mentioned how the leaves were just beginning to turn. That he remembered that tiny detail spoke volumes about his character and genuine care. It's a place to use the…read morerestroom, park your car and stretch your legs, walk your dog, etc. The women's restroom was clean and tidy. You can't ask for much more than that from a rest stop on the side of the interstate. There were no vending machines that I could see, but there was a nature trail that you could walk on. I visited during the fall, when all of the leaves were turning beautiful colors, so I bet that walking along that trail would have been lovely. I didn't have time to explore, though. Rest stops are places that you hit and quit, and that's exactly what I did.

Lots of parking (duh!), and room for kids (parents, grandparents, friends) to run some of the road rust of (and stored energy out). We used it as a pit stop for our dog (German Shepherd) and we were able to let him off leash and get a really good run. It wasn't crowded. There are other rest areas about 30 miles away, closer to town and some tourist traps; this is a nice place to unwind before getting into all that.

Park your car and follow a short trail that leads you to a deck. Climb up the stairs to the top deck and on the top deck you should be able to spot Mackinac Bridge on one side and see Lake Superior on the other side. The deck itself unfortunately isn't too big though, so if there are other people there, you kinda have to wait for your turn, which was what we experienced today when we were there. Also too bad the sky was overcast and cloudy when we were there, so we regrettably couldn't really see Mackinac Bridge very well. But it was still a nice little rest area after one hour of driving.
