I've even done the blue ridge turkey trot. Lots of beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls. You can go river rafting, or enjoy the blue ridge scenic railway.

From what I understand Blue Ridge is a part of what is known as the greater Appalachian Mountain Range that spans from Georgia all the way up the coast to Pennsylvania... From Atlanta it's about 250 miles on up here if you live in the downtown area. It's a popular tourist area with rental cabins and loads of gift shops. I've been coming up here since I was kid. It's a popular destination in the fall for bus load of kids from school or various youth groups to come up here to visit the apple orchards. They also have lots of fall activities such as hay rides, pumpkin patch, corn maze and of course bonfire and ghost stories!) It's a lot of fun to get out here away from all high tech activities and just enjoy the fresh air and talk to the locals. The area is known for good fudge, coffee and BBQ. Everywhere you go there is a BBQ place and all the shop owners are super approachable and friendly to tourists because most of the people that come in are tourists.... If you're in town for a few hours definitely try these shops 1. Three Sister Fudge https://www.3sistersfudge.com/ 2. Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company https://www.blueridgeoliveoil.com/ 3. Mercier Orchards (make sure you try their fried apple pie) https://www.mercier-orchards.com/ 4. Canoe (handcrafted jewelry, bags, and accessories made in Blue Ridge, GA https://www.blueridgemountains.com/directory/canoe-jewelry-gifts/ ) 5. Huck's General Store (all things old fashioned and low tech https://www.blueridgemountains.com/directory/hucks-general-store/ ) 6. Das Kaffe Haus (they are famous all over North Georgia for a good, consistent memorable cup of joe. High quality and no snobbery) https://www.escapetoblueridge.com/blog/das-kaffee-haus/ There are plenty of free parking and paid parking for about $5 a pop. Even though it can get super crowded on the weekends, I've never not found a parking spot...btw google isn't really helpful for finding public parking in this area of the state. Most of their photos are really old and do not reflect the renovations and the major face-lift the city has undergone in the past 10 years....try Tripadvisor or Facebook for more recent photos...
