I am so happy I found Popejoy Haus Cabins in Glen Rose! I live in Dallas and when I travel, it's…read morealways by airplane to some other state. It's shameful how I haven't taken the time to explore the awesome places to get away right in my own backyard. Well, now that I know about this gem located five minutes from Dinosaur Valley State Park, I am sure to make the quick hour-and-a-half drive more often. I found Popejoy Haus Cabins with a simple Google search when I decided the week of Easter that I wanted to take an impromptu vacation that weekend. The website is easy to navigate and very informative, with lots of great pictures and descriptions of each cabin on the property. Using the information on the "Contact Us" page, I emailed Klare Popejoy inquiring about availability and she replied within 6 hours that one cabin was available--Gunter's Nest. I contacted her by phone to work out the details and she was very flexible and accommodating. I also liked that she took my credit card number to hold the room, but didn't put a charge on it like many places do. I'll admit that when I booked Gunter's Nest, the pictures I had viewed had prepared me for it to be a little cramped and small, but it was so comfortable and charming. We were very pleasantly surprised. It was secluded, just like the website had said--surrounded by trees and other flora--and the hot tub on the patio was inviting. The interior was perfect for two people, with all the amenities of home but the added comfort of being away. The king-sized bed was comfy (and a nice change from my full-size!) and my traveling partner spent a lot of time enjoying the recliner. And although the property feels tucked away, you are just a few minutes from downtown Glen Rose (and some AMAZING BBQ) and a 15-minute drive to Granbury, if you'd like to spend an evening in a slightly larger town. It was perfect for our weekend getaway. The Popejoys offer you free reign to explore the grounds, which includes a small, enclosed area with goats and chickens, and a game room with ping-pong and pool tables. I will for sure be returning to Gunter's Nest, or maybe I will try one of the other cabins next time. Klare and the Popejoys are very gracious hosts, even offering us a plate of home-baked goodies upon our arrival. I highly recommend these cabins for your next weekend getaway.

I can't believe there is only one review for this place posted on here! My husband and I have…read morestayed at Popejoy Haus several times over the years and there are many reasons why we keep returning. First of all, you couldn't get a better hostess than Klare Popejoy. She is very gracious and accommodating and genuinely cares about the state of her cabins and well-being of her guests. You can tell by the very clean well-kept cabins with hand-painted decorations that there is a lot of love involved. Klare also greets guests with an unbelievable plate of homemade treats every time... I start salivating on the way there in anticipation! Now, about the cabins- each one (aside from the one up next to the main house) is nestled back in its own little area in the woods down its own private road. You will not see another person while you are there, although you Will see plenty of birds and butterflies, maybe even a bunny! The Popejoys also have their own critters you can feed or pet if you are feeling adventurous. There's a donkey and some goats and I got a kick out of feeding them carrots when we went before. Each cabin is appointed with the aforementioned handmade décor as well as comfy beds and quaint furniture. Best of all- each cabin has its own private hot tub out in the back! Sitting in a hot tub with your honey sipping a glass of wine under the stars... is there anything better?! We have stayed in I believe all of the cabins there by now and have yet to be anything but pleased. If you're looking to have a great little getaway to enjoy the stillness and peace of the country while being close enough to a town to go grab dinner or shop, you could not do any better than Popejoy Haus! Do yourself a favor and book a couple days as soon as you can!

We had such a special stay in the train car--this place is truly something unique. Every detail of…read morethe space was thoughtfully designed. It had all the charm you'd hope for (the vintage feel, the clawfoot tub, even the most creative little touches like the sink), while still being incredibly comfortable with modern amenities. You can tell a lot of care went into making it both beautiful and livable. What really makes this place stand out, though, is the setting. Waking up to open fields, wildflowers, and animals nearby, and then winding down under a sky full of stars--it felt peaceful in a way that's hard to find. It was the kind of place that gently pushes you out of your comfort zone in a safe and meaningful way, and those are the experiences that stick. There were also a few thoughtful touches and moments during our stay that made it feel even more special and memorable. It created some true core memories for my kids--those little unexpected experiences that you don't forget. The caretakers were absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel welcome and took extra time to make sure we were comfortable. You can feel how much they care about the space, the animals, and the people who visit. This isn't a typical stay--it's something much more intentional. It feels like a place where the land and animals are genuinely cared for, and you're invited to be part of that, even if just for a short time. We will absolutely be back, and are already looking forward to trying some of the other spaces on the property next time.

The "inn" is really a 40 acre farm (bed and breakfast) with animals for kids to look at, various buildings to view, and a community fire pit. Ordinarily, there is a breakfast bar that was not functioning during the pandemic. The bucolic environment was very relaxing and we appreciated the time away from the hustle and bustle. There were some problems with our Airstream. The inside smelled musty and the sheets had some weird odor. We were there in October and it got cold at night but there was no heat so we froze during the night. There were no blankets. The "kitchen" was not very well equipped, lacking even a bottle opener. So, we enjoyed our time but it would have been better if the Airstream had been better maintained and equipped.
