This retreat is a little piece of heaven! With a rustic, old western look and feel, Hideaway Ranch really takes you back in time. All of the cabins are decorated to perfection, well-kept, and have a southern-style charm. The cabins have beautiful decks with relaxing outdoor Jacuzzi Tubs and scenic views. We stayed in the couples cabin "The Hacienda" for the night and absolutely loved it! The grounds offer ample hiking, free & fun archery with targets, horseback riding, and tons of cute little farm animals to look at. One of our favorite parts about this place was it's BBQ restaurant on the premises. I have never tasted steak and brisket so good in my life! If anything, the drive is worth it just to eat there. The servings were large, the staff very friendly, and the service was exquisite! The people who run this retreat are extremely friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that some of the cabins are pet friendly, so we will definitely be bringing our Louie Dog next time we visit, and we will be back soon! Love this place, only positive things to say here. Keep up the great job you guys!!!

Okay, so I really enjoyed the cabin, the horse back ride with Amber was awesome! She's great! The jacuzzi was super nice, the animals are great.... Let me tell you why I'm so upset, I mean anyone would feel this way. We were at the Rendezvous cabin and yes it's a cabin, out in the country. We know there will be bugs.. duh! What we didn't expect was 15-20 wasps in OUR CABIN! We were fighting to kill them while we trying to sleep, trying to cook and just trying to relax. We went to look for the guy (bald man) not sure of his name. He was no where to be found, no one around to help at 1pm!! I mean there should always be someone there!! That's not okay!! On top of it all, we didn't have any service at all, like none. We had to drive to town to finally get some reception. We get ahold on him FINALLY! He was completely rude, didn't care to help us, we ask if we could go into another cabin and he said "no" they were completely booked but it's funny that when we called it said that they had extra cabins for the weekend.. Hmmmm, that's for the help buddy. Do while we were out to town he went to our cabin and sprayed it down... Which killed some, not all of them. They were still all over the place! It's unfortunate that he wasn't even trying to be a little nice about it, we didn't get and I'm sorry until we were done packing our bags 2 days early to leave because in his words, "I can't do nothing about it at this point, let me see if I can find some bug spray." So stupid and careless... Never again will I come here. So much for all these good reviews! We ended up going to San Antonio river walk and stayed in a bug free top of the line hotel... Thanks for nothing Hideaway ranch! Rude and unhelpful!!

We spent our anniversary at Hideaway. It was our first time there and loved it. It's not right off the highway, so getting there the first time was interesting. Dirt roads, cattle guards. But getting there is part of the fun. You drive down a long dirt road, pass a pond and arrive at the Wild West town mock up. Checked in and ordered a burger from the Buffalo Nickel. It was delicious. We stayed in the Lineshack. It's their most isolated cabin. I'm glad we brought a lantern because power was off when we arrived due to a storm that blew through right before we got there. It came back on in an hour. The chuck wagon dinner on Saturday was great! And Tracy (owner) is one of the friendliest people we've ever met. This was such a nice experience. All prices were very reasonable. They could gouge you, but don't. We'll be back. -we visited Hico for breakfast. koffee kup is great. -we went to bluff dale winery. Another great experience.
Myself and the family spent several days at Hideaway Ranch and retreat. It was such a wonderful time we really wish we could have stayed longer. Our cabin was really nice and clean. The pool was relaxing and very short walk from our cabin. The Hideaway has plenty of activities (fishing, horseback riding, hiking and stargaze)that you can plan for if you have the time which I highly recommend. The nights at Hideaway Ranch are very quiet and the stars on clear nights were breath taking. Morning breakfast at Hideaway Ranch The Buffalo Nickel was very good. The staff were also very polite and they had some time to talk to us about some of the history of the ranch. We were very happy with the hospitality that was shown to us by all the staff. We look forward to our next visit and hope to make Hideaway Ranch a family tradition to visit. Thank you Hideaway Ranch for such a great memorable time. read more

There are more cons then pros , just our opinion. Our cabin needed a deep clean, the water was VERY cool (far from hot), the air condition in the room was not cold (filter needed a deep clean), there was bugs and the hot tub had lots of leaves. Pros were it is in the middle of no where, quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Had the thugs above been fixed we would be back. For $360 for two nights, strictly my opinion.. we won't be back. read more

My family and I had the best time here! Not only is this place conveniently priced, but the location is better than what we hoped for! This gem truly is hidden away where you can truly relax. They do offer satellite tv, but who spends their free time watching it?! We had fun fishing in 4 out of 6 lakes, and swimming in their lovely pool! The hiking trails are best walked during the morning cool air! Our children just loved the animals that roam free! Imagine fishing while hanging out with a llama! My husband and I definitely want to come back alone. This is such a great place to get away, and spend time with your significant other! The only negative thing is, we have to leave and go back to our busy lives! read more

This place was just what we needed. We booked the Buena Vista cabin for just one night (a trial run, if you will) on a Thursday. It's so close to the metroplex (about 75 minutes from FW if you take the Chisholm Trail toll road to Glen Rose) that it takes the pressure off of "going out of town." Hell, I drive 75 minutes to work every day, this was nothing. The cabin itself was really cute, plenty of hot water and water pressure, gorgeous view from the deck or the window by the bed. Both face north, which means you're facing the city so there there's a little more light pollution than I would have thought, but the stars were still worthy of comment. Sitting in a hot tub, looking up at the stars with your sweetie is what it's all about. We didn't really use the kitchen, other than to crack a couple of ice trays for drinks but if you were to bring food, you'd have no trouble preparing it. Definitely bring ice... especially if it's hot outside because we went through all three ice trays in no time. :) My only complaint is the mattress. I suppose if I didn't have a middle aged spine it would have been okay, but I'm not really sure I could spend more than one night on it. My hips and lower back were both aggravated with me. Even so, we'll be back - I'll just pack plenty of advil. read more
I just spent 3 lovely day at the Hideaway Ranch and Retreat with my family for our eldest daughter's 13th birthday. We had a truly awesome experience! We stayed in the "Yellastone" cabin and my goodness was it cute! Being fully furnished and so clean, I was delighted! This is a family owned and operated ranch and all the special touches truly show. What I loved about the lay-out of the cabins are they are situated in a way where you have ultimate privacy; no worries about having your neighbors within arms reach. Afterall, if you're looking to "get away" from it all, why would you want the same experience you already have at home? :) The linens were lovely and higher quality, everything was homey with an extra special touch. Some of the cabins are for couples-only, some are for families and pet-friendly also; just depends on that particular cabin. Traci, was very friendly, very helpful and just lit up the whole place with her smile! She's awesome; actually, her and her family are truly awesome, very nice people. I plan to visit again very soon and I know the girls are looking forward to it already. read more

How refreshing and peaceful this beautiful ranch is! The Hubby and I needed a getaway after having a baby. We live in Austin (Central) and deal with pavement and cars daily. We were looking for something different to do. We stumbled across this website when searching for places to stay in Glen Rose. (because Glen Rose is scenic). We are so glad we took the adventure. The family owned establishment provides you with lots of options of activities (just in case you get bored of reading on your porch swing) ! They offer horseback trail rides, fishing, archery, scavenger hunts, etc. We personally enjoyed the hiking trails that take you all over the rugged terrain and you see lots of interesting animals along the way. The cabin we stayed in (Cimarron) was perfect, cleanly and had all of the equipment to cook a nice dinner. We relaxed in the Hot Tub and reconnected with each other, and this place was the perfect place to do so. We highly recommend this place if you are needing to escape the rat race for a bit, to reconnect with family and loved ones, and to reconnect with your own soul. We will be back! read more

The good? I've stayed at both Frontier and Lineshack. Cabins are well situated away from each other, so you'll get lots of privacy. Having a pool is lovely in the summer months. And the setting is lovely! Love the wildlife wandering about, and the folks who run the place are friendly. (Note: Lineshack gets a lot of noise from kids at the pool, which didn't bother me, but do note if you want a quieter experience.) The cabins are not well-equipped at all in terms of kitchen stuff ---- there are dishes, but if you plan on cooking at all, bring your equipment from home, up to and including salt and pepper. And don't count on weekend breakfast or dinner unless you've checked/reserved ahead. Reasonable enough, they need to be able to plan. read more

We really enjoyed our stay in the Cimarron. Quiet, secluded cabins. Not too far from Stephenville.

Updated review. We had return visit to relax and unwind and delighted to find that all the best thing about the place are still there but with lots of improvements. The new swimming pool is awesome! Much bigger and with an attached hot tub as well. Chuck wagon dinner cooked by Jason was fantastic and his Dutch Oven cobbler is the best. All our old favorites like sitting on the porch reading and not being disturbed, wandering cows and llamas still there. Thank you Traci and Jason for keeping this oasis of calm alive and well. read more

Been here on more than one occasion so bare with this review because it's kind of a 2-1. First time was AMAZING! They have journals in the cabins for guests to write and I reread my entry when I returned and totally agreed. Super tranquil, absolutely stunning scenery. Just peaceful and a great place to commune with God. I left there feeling ready to get back to the hustle and bustle of life. Second time...well... left me feeling like I just spent half a grand for nothing and I didn't write in the journal because I had nothing nice to say... not because the owners Jason and Traci did anything wrong or because the beauty of the property changed, but because the elder on the ranch RUINED my peace of mind and inflicted me with horrible anxiety for the duration of my stay. So instead of enjoying peace and tranquility, I was plagued with replaying again and again the awful time I spent with him. Allow me to elaborate. Day after we checked in, the next day we went horseback riding. Now, I don't have a horse so anytime I go riding, it has to be on someone else's horses, on their ranch, by their rules...no problem. Never have I ever been someplace (and I've ridden in different states) have I heard that if you trot for even a minute, it will basically undo all the training the horse has and will put others in danger...he told me to hold the horse back and then catch up...well doing this multiple times of course was beginning to get the horse aggravated (and me too because now I'm not enjoying time with my husband, I'm just playing catch up) so I asked again, please for just one minute so I can have my riding time..not looking to go running or jumping or anything serious, just a minute to trot. I'm here to enjoy myself and being on a horse is freeing to my mind...which is the entire point of the trip. Well, that ended with us stopping for 5 minutes so he could stare me down and interrogate me, LITERALLY telling me to get off the horse... in the middle of a 150 acre property!! So I shut my mouth, embarrassed and ashamed and that was the way I stayed for the next 2 days on that property. So I wound up with more anxiety than I came with...and I left with it...hence this review, hoping to rid myself of it. If you're going to The Hideaway, it's beautiful and serene, a wonderful place to unwind and decompress...but I HIGHLY HIGHLY don't recommend ever allowing yourself to come into contact with the elder man, who I believe is one of the owners dad if I'm not mistaken. He is so rude and belittling, and God forbid you have a request on the vacation you just spent a year saving up for, he will make you feel as small as his heart must be. Waste of money and time this time around and an awful experience I won't soon forget. read more

We wanted a quiet relaxing cabin and that is exactly what we received! We stayed in the Lineshack last night and had a peaceful evening. Getting there was...interesting. It is in the middle of B.F.E. Which I was honestly a bit annoyed about until we looked up. I have never seen so many stars. It was breathtaking. We arrived after dark and had no problem finding the cabin. We unloaded the luggage and milled around outside for a little while just enjoying the serenity. The cabin was small, clean, and cozy. No cell phone reception whatsoever (which was fine with us, but be aware). We heard coyotes in the distance, so if you are bringing a pet with you I would not recommend letting it wander too far. The next morning there were two alpacas grazing by our vehicle in front of the cabin. When we went to check out, we checked out the goats, geese, and pig behind the office; they were so sweet - except for the goose with the black beak - he is an asshole. We will be back in the Springtime. :-) read more

We stayed in the Lone Star for two nights. The cabin was clean, nicely decorated and had everything needed for a great stay, right down to a flyswatter! (love it) The only knock at all, the master bedroom needs to retire the bed. It has seen it's better days. But otherwise it was fantastic! We have family of 4, with two grown sons. They liked the loft because it was tall enough for them to stand. (had 3 beds, very roomy) We used the pool and had a country breakfast they cook on-site Saturday morning. The view was incredible and a nice drive out of the bustling metroplex was just what the doctor ordered. Away from wi-fi and limited cell service made for some great conversation and general relaxation. However, the do have nice TV/Dish so you don't feel too isolated! lol We brought food and grilled out for one meal and sampled some of the local food too. It's a bit of a drive but great scenery, no complaints! We would love to bring extended family next time. It would lend itself to large groups with a covered area with tables, fire pit and chuck wagon cookout in the cooler months. read more

we got married @ the hideaway yesterday! Things could not have been any more perfect. Since it's been raining for three days, traci & jason put up the 20'x24' tent the night before. Traci got us some dublin dr. Pepper to serve our guests with some local flavor. They have been so accommodating w/ our guest list growing & the requests coming in about every other day! Our wedding would not have been perfect without the hideaway & the wonderful owners. We are staying in the hacienda cabin & were able to watch fireworks @ 4 different locations last night. We're hoping for more tonite. The cabin is unbelievable...we have grilled every meal on our awesome deck & are hoping to watch the sunset from our hot tub tonight. If you're wanting to get away for a weekend & go fishing, horseback riding, hiking or just stare at the longhorns, this is the place to go! The texas hospitality could not be better!!! Highly recommended for weddings, anniversaries & weekend getaways. A must see & do for all texans!!! read more

This place was super fun...my husband and I like to relax during our small getaways...and this place was perfect. Secluded cabins- their property is pretty big and all the cabins are not relatively close to each other... My husband and I stayed in Lonestar a few months ago. My only complain is that the toilet made a weird sound throughout the night....and the shades they had for the back door....well most were missing....so had anyone been walking their trails leading to our cabin...they may have gotten an eye full :)...thankfully we didnt see anyone....but i felt a bit uncomfortable about it. If we were to go back I'd defientaly ask for a cabin with shades or curtains.... read more

I'm a little behind since my husband & I stayed here in July of 2015, but we really loved it! This was our honeymoon and we stayed during the week and it was perfect because there wasn't anyone else staying in any cabins until our last day, so we pretty much had the run of the place! We stayed in the Frontier cabin and it was very comfortable and cozy. There is a very pretty pool to swim in and you may even have a few small frogs to join you, though they're pretty shy ;). The views are awesome and it is the perfect peaceful getaway. The coolest thing was seeing the owner's llamas chilling out in the yard right in front of our cabin! And we had a very jealous and determined cardinal who was sure that his reflection in our window was an intruder, so he liked to fly up & down the window and peck at it! The owners are so sweet and welcoming and make sure that everything is just right for your stay. We will definitely re-visit at some point, maybe for an anniversary. One piece of advice: bug repellent! Mosquitoes were not a problem, but chiggers were! And there is a healthy population of horse flies. If you hate bugs, this isn't the place for you, at least not in warm weather. read more

This place is beyond words! When my husband and I arrived, we were amazed by the coolest Old West town. Jason checked us in and he was very professional and friendly. The cabin was clean, well decorated and very private. We immediately knew that we found our new favorite vacation spot. Not only was the kitchen well equipped, but we also enjoyed an incredible sunset from a hot tub. We hiked the trails, went on a horseback ride and the scenery was spectacular. Oh, and the steaks were the best we've ever eaten. The owner cooked the steaks Saturday night at a big dinner. We'll be returning again and again and we can't wait! read more
