I misjudged the weight of a crate and ouch, that hurt. I assumed it was a simple muscle strain, but I'm no physician. Dr. Weiler, however, recognized my symptoms as consistent with a more serious injury and, thanks to her and her very professional staff, I had an X-ray, an MRI and saw a specialist, all within four days of my initial visit with her. There's no way I could've achieved all these appointments on my own. It's only because of Dr. Weiler and her staff that I got in to see a specialist that very same week. UPDATE: Within 10 days of that first appointment with Dr. Weiler, I learned I'd suffered a 95-percent separation of my bicep, and had the surgery necessary to correct it. Yes. All within 10 days. If not for Dr. Weiler, the injury I mistook for a simple strain could've very easily become so severe that even surgery wouldn't have been an option. Besides that, the specialist to whom she referred me was among the best of the best. Another win for Dr. Weiler. She's got a lot of those.

Faced with…read morethe unexpected closure of my primary healthcare provider, and as one who prioritizes a complementary and integrative approach over a plethora of pills, I decided to take the first step and book a telehealth appointment. As other reviewers mentioned, it is difficult to get a live person on the phone when calling the office--most often my calls would be routed to voicemail, and the call back would come at an inconvenient time, lending to cycles of phone tag. Despite this hiccup, the telehealth appointments were relatively easy to schedule, and I felt the provider, Brett, was knowledgeable in her area of practice even though we lacked a chemistry as patient and provider (no one's fault, just the way things happen). I went ahead with the labs that were recommended, and that is when things started to go sideways. I made my way to the office on Clybourn on a blustery late winter day last year to have the labs drawn. The waiting area was a bit chaotic and crowded, with the chairs close together. I'm not a mask absolutist, but was surprised to note that a few of the medical providers were not wearing medical face masks. The technicians who drew my blood were professional and offered me a snack at the end, so I give them high marks. However, the front desk staff were not at all transparent in how I would be billed for this procedure, assuring me that I would not be paying thousands of dollars (I note that I did have insurance at the time, just not Blue Cross which appears to be Whole Health's preferred provider). When the bill came, it was much higher than expected. Apparently, I was supposed to have gotten a referral for these tests but unsure as to how that would work, since all of the work (examining and testing) was all done in house. I later found out that Whole Health contracts with another provider to run the tests. I am fortunate that I was able to pay the bill without having to resort to loans or medical debt, but walked away from this experience wanting nothing more to do with Whole Health and feeling that our US healthcare system is irredeemably broken.
