We rented an overpriced house managed by Littlejohns because we didn't have another choice, but it was clearly substandard accommodation and next to nothing was done to fix that. We had to pay a £250 fee to book it (which was later included in the deposit, making it £1000, quite a lot of money for a deposit). Our move in date was changed without much notice and a new contract was not sent to us to read beforehand, so we had to do read it quickly in their office whilst getting the keys and paying the deposit.
A huge number of things needed to be fixed when we moved in, even though the inventory showed everything was in perfect condition (it felt as if they had never visited the property to double check the condition it was in). They (almost) always sent someone to do repairs fairly quickly, but the job was done to patch things up only. Yet every year we received an increase of rent notice (legally can be done once per year), which was outrageous considering the state of the accommodation. It was a very damp place (regardless of how much the dehumidifier we bought was on), original windows (single-glazing and drafty) and we had a gastropod infestation that was never taken care of. Only after a house inspection they would decide to do the garden, but it was never well looked after. We were expected to look after it without having tools in order to do so. In addition to that, there were two electricity MPANs registered at the property (even though the inventory only accounted for one), which meant that we had to pay for both of them in our electricity bills, an additional £100 a year. Littlejohns never took any responsibility for this.
When we finally moved out, they charged us £30 for a reference, and it took over a week to get it despite of having paid (and being reliable tenants throughout the years).
Littlejohns offered us poor service throughout our tenancy, whenever we needed something it felt overly bureaucratic and untrusting of us despite of being good tenants. read more
