When I walked in the employee was very fast to take my order that I didnt even see the sign to order on the tablet until after I ordered. I got the matcha sunny side up and it was exactly what I needed smooth creamy and not too sweet I got 70%. Walked in for a weekday lunch lured by the poster outside advertising a bubble tea with oats (I'm still sad that Gong Cha stopped offering oats as a topping). The space was dimly lit and clean. We put our tea orders in right away--uluhuluh milk tea and sunny side up matcha latte--and, after some deliberation, we decided on a corn and cheese appetizer, an egg souffle that the server warned us would take about 30min, and a fried chicken sandwich. Both drinks were great, good chew on the tapioca and a strong black tea flavor with a welcome hint of bitterness for the uluhuluh milk tea. The sandwich arrived first and after about 30min, the server told us that the souffle had collapsed under the weight of the toppings (relatable tbh) and asked if we'd like a different dish to replace it. The server also offered a complimentary beverage for the wait which was very considerate. For the dish, we went with the salmon ochazuke rice which was delivered quickly and was served by pouring a light tea broth on top. It was a comforting bowl that my friend mentioned tasted like a Ghanaian soup from her childhood. The chicken sandwich was excellent, great flavor with my only note being that the slaw could've been a little drier to help maintain the integrity of the sandwich. Heard about this place that had great soufflé pancakes so decided to give this place a whirl for brunch! I read that there were usually waits on weekends so I came at 10:50am on a weekend, waited 10 minutes and got seated as soon as they opened. The staff were very friendly informing me of opening time as well as seating me before my party all came. We ordered the honeycomb soufflé pancake, a boba, chicken and pancake, and a side of truffle fries. They informed us soufflé pancakes take at least 20 minutes so definitely order that first if you're indecisive about the rest of the menu. The fries came first. There was a good taste of truffle and the fries were crispy but not overly to the point it's just dry. Pancakes and chicken came out next. The pancakes were so soft and fluffy and was great with or without the syrup (I have a giant sweet tooth so it tastes better with to me) and the chicken was juicy. My only gripe was that the chicken was also sweet? Not sure if it's by design but I can see some being put off by the overabundance of sweetness. The soufflé pancake came last and it looked as good as it tasted. It was so airy and fluffy yet dense at the same time. Definitely worth the wait. We came in around 4:30 PM as a group of four, planning to try their soufflé pancakes. Right when we walked in, the restaurant had an unpleasant smell, something like a mix of body odor and onions. My brother really wanted us to try the pancakes, so we decided to stay. We ordered two soufflé pancake dishes priced around 19 to 21 dollars each to share. After waiting 30 minutes, our server suddenly told us there was a 15 dollar minimum per person to dine in, meaning we needed to spend more money. This was the first time anyone mentioned it. We were never informed when we were seated or at any point during the 30 minutes we waited. When we questioned it, our server said it was in fine print on the cocktail menu. We were not ordering cocktails and we were there specifically for dessert. When we checked the menu, it only showed a 10 dollar minimum for cocktails, not a 15 dollar per person dine in minimum. At this point our total was 38 dollars, and instead of acknowledging the miscommunication, the server expected us to either order more or leave. There is also a mandatory 5 percent service charge, which she did not consider when insisting we were short. We told her we were not hungry and did not want to order anything else, so we asked to switch to takeout. She said "ok," came back a few minutes later, dropped the bag onto the table, and walked away with no apology and no thank you. When we explained that this felt like poor service, she responded with multiple excuses such as she only makes 11 dollars an hour, she did not seat us, her coworker left, and that the restaurant needs a minimum because people come in and order 5 dollar drinks. None of these addressed the real issue, which was that we were not told about the minimum until 30 minutes later, and our total ended up being 41.38 dollars anyway, which is above the minimum. The restaurant was nearly empty with plenty of open tables, so it was not a capacity issue. Instead, it felt like we were being pushed out due to unclear rules and poor communication. Overall, the experience left a bad impression. The sourdough bread for toast was nice and crunchy but soft on the inside. However, the second time I ordered it, it was kind of hard and definitely not as good as previously ordered. I don't usually like truffle as an ingredient so I did not like the truffle pasta but my friend enjoyed it. The soft shell crab pasta was so freaking spicy and the crab was not fresh. The truffle fries however were pretty nice. The main attraction were the soufflé pancakes but they were not the best ones I've ever tried. I honestly think they were way too eggy for my liking. The strawberry and matcha soufflé were super soft, maybe too soft. They literally melted in your mouth but overtime it became thick and unpalatable. I'm a huge fan of uluh (their original restaurant) so I've been meaning to come and check out this new spot! My friend got the chestnut boba milk and I got the matcha sunny side up latte. It's super cute visually and taste wise was decent! I liked the foam on top and the little egg is so cute - I'd recommend just eating it separately to taste the puree because when you mix it in it disappears into the drink. Not the best matcha I've had but definitely not the worst in nyc, so I still enjoyed it. While you can swap out the milk for a non dairy alternative, you cannot remove the foam on top - drinks come as is - so just a warning for any lactose intolerant friends!
