Located directly on Main Street in Cottonwood and within walking distance to all the wine tasting rooms, funky shops and great bars & restaurants - you can park and forget about your car for a truly relaxed and fun visit. This is a historic property with all the charm of an old hotel with every modern convenience in each of the rooms. Karen Leff, the owner, has completely renovated and modernized this property. The rooms feature claw-foot tubs with first class shower modification, luxury bedding, plush but supportive mattresses, in-room coffee service, bar fridge, new min-split AC, flat screen TV and more. We did not even turn on the TV as there was so much fun to be had in town over the July 4th celebration. We had an excellent view of the Cottonwood fireworks as we relaxed with other guests on the large common balcony that graces the front of the hotel. An insider's knowledge of places to eat, visit, hike and explore just added to our enjoyment and we truly had a stress-free visit. Less than 1/2 the cost of accommodations in nearby Sedona, you'll get better value, no traffic congestion, and 10 minute access to all the red rocks you can handle! Plus the Verde River has many nearby river access points for kayaks, canoes and tubing. There's even an in-town city park riparian preserve trail to get you out in nature without the drive to enjoy it. I would highly recommend the Cottonwood Hotel for anyone looking for the cool place to stay, with beautiful rooms, affordable privacy and relaxation. This is a small business property and that is important to me in supporting the local economy. You will love this place! I'll stay here every time I am in the area.

Karen was so sweet, she introduced herself and went above and beyond in making sure our stay was delightful. The room was much bigger than anticipated, and we really enjoyed the hardwood floors. We had easy access to the balcony, with great views of Main Street and were within walking distance to so many fun shops and restaurants. We had a lovely stay, and would definitely book the John Wayne Suite again.

From the moment we pulled into the historic little parking lot, we were captivated by the entire appearance. The beautiful maroon-red building is such a unique color. We were thrilled with everything the apartment had to offer; from the spacious kitchen, the trundle guest beds, and my favorite amenity, the quaint, lavender-shade bathroom. We also loved the library on the 2nd floor. Outside on the 2nd-floor patio, we saw the Jerome mountainside and the crimson peaks of Sedona. Directly across the street from the Lodge, there is a perfectly placed kids' park and a lush, grassy field for the dogs. A few streets away, we came across an adorable Laundromat. For dinner, we went to the Mexican restaurant that is right across the parking lot. There, we ate some delicious food, including the most fantastic guacamole I have ever tasted. We had such a great time during our visit to the Clarkdale Lodge, and we were so disappointed when it was time for us to leave. They were gracious in every way and even told us of the history of the land from hundreds of years ago. We stayed in their massive guest house, which can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests, with plenty of room to spare. It's perfect for large families, retreats, bridal shower sleepovers and friend getaways. The house is fully stocked, so all you need to do is bring your food. I started mornings off with coffee and the most spectacular sunrise and views of all that awaited us on that magical property. Through the windows or sitting on the wrap around patio. The house feels like home. You can see the full size and mini jersey cows waiting for the day to start. Off in the distance there's a pond with fish. Once you make your way over to the ranch, you will find chickens wandering about, birds singing and the most adorable pygmy goats. Then there's a huge barn that makes the perfect setting for any special gathering. A bride to be's dream come true! The space is rustic and full of decoration possibilities. Whether you want your occasion to be elegant or straight out of a western movie or anything in between, it can happen at Rolling Raven Ranch. They also have events that you can attend without the whole stay experience. Look them up and stay connected for upcoming schedule. I will warn you though -you will want and need more. We have now stayed here three times in the last six months. Each time was a new and different experience. The first time there were other guests there for the event we were attending and that's when we made new friends. We have also brought family members, which included some of our grandchildren. We have made memories here that I know they will cherish forever. My next goal is a family reunion and then I hope and pray for one of my adult children to have a wedding at this most heavenly place. The private deck was private enough to feel like you could be in your birthday suit, and the hot tub was large, with powerful jets, and clean. Was a wonderful experience to jump in your own outdoor tub first thing in the morning without having to really worry if it was disturbing anyone else. The view was stunning, clear and unobstructed through the valley onto majestic mesas. The breakfasts each morning were very delicious and well presented, so appropriate for a honeymooning couple. However, they were consistently on the sweet sugary side, and I would have preferred options of having protein or something savory for breakfast, though the sweets were definitely good sweets, 100% sweets give me a headache, not a good way to start the day. Though it was kind of nice to have the hosts wheel breakfast into your room every morning, it was a bit awkward and I would have just told the hosts to leave the breakfast for us in a separate room elsewhere until a certain time because we like to sleep in. If the room were set up such that the breakfast cart didn't have to be wheeled in through the bedroom it might have felt less awkward because then you felt like you couldn't be the true slobs you were and spread out in any way you wish. Fireplace was great in warming up the room, easy to turn on and off. In terms of noise, you can barely hear cars go down the road below if you try to listen for it, and since the place is made of wood, the frame does creek and pop a bit. However, when we mentioned the wood frame issue I was not impressed by the host's reaction which was more on the defensive side. Though they apologized they insisted previous customers did not experience what we did (and that approach tends to indicate that something is wrong with us since other folks didn't have the problem) and for being a business that charges what it does for the rooms, they could have at least offered some small renumeration like a complimentary 10% off, and we did ask, but they refused. If it weren't for the reaction of the host (not very business savvy), the awkward and always sweet breakfast, I'd give the place 5 stars because the grounds are just so stunning and everything else was great.
