Female maintenance. 1) it can get expensive. 2) You don't want just anyone providing you with…read morethese services. I had done some research because I wanted to have a wax. Yeah. Wax. Makes me shudder thinking about it. What possessed me? Your guess is as good as mine, but I thought, "Surely it has to be easier and longer lasting!" I have had a couple of waxes before... bikini line and legs. Both with hot wax and a strip. It was enough to put me off... until now.
I found this place, thought the prices were reasonable, they offered a wider range of waxes than some places, and I knew where it was. All important. I rang up and the "receptionist" did not know what times were available or even what kind of waxing services were available. So she offered to take my name and number and have someone call me back. I gave her my number and she repeated it back to me, incorrectly three times. I tried to read it to her and on the last one, she did not read it back to me, so I thought she had gotten it. She did not.
However, because my 'merican accent gives me away. They assumed that I was with part of the study abroad program and called Reception. At least she got my name right so they were able to narrow it down. The lady answered my questions and was able to schedule me for the same week. When I arrived for my appointment, there was only one staff member rushing about getting things sorted. She popped downstairs to greet me and led me to a room upstairs. We talked about what I wanted to have done and then she stepped out of the room to allow me to change.
They have the normal wax and strips, but for the more sensitive areas, they use a different kind of wax that does not need strips. Apparently when you apply it, it shrink wraps itself around the hair, but not the skin like the strips. While it still hurts like a mofo, it is in fact less painful, especially on the skin than the strips and I think it is more effective at getting hair. The lady was very friendly and did not mind chatting with me and answering my questions. After I got changed, we went downstairs so I could pay. Again, the non-chip-and-pin issue.... This machine didn't have a swipe area, however, instead of telling me she could not run the card (as some places WRONGLY do... by contract if they take Visa and Mastercard, they have to take all Visa and Mastercard, chip or no chip), she looked at me for direction. Remember that at our college if someone orders a t-shirt online, we have to type in the card number. So I walked her through it. The receipt printed out, but she was a little skeptical of the whole thing, so she asked if she could take my phone number in case it does not go through, so I said yes. She also provided me with a pamphlet of all the services and prices. I have to say at £20, I thought it was good value for the money.
If you have to get waxed... you at least want the experience to be as painless as possible, since there will be enough pain anyway!
