I spoke with Ms Karen, Ms Carmen, and Ms Jennifer throughout my 8 weeks and all 3 people were helpful. They answered all my questions, gave me updates when I asked, and even offered advice for the new school year. My kids loved their teachers because they came home every day to talk about everything they had done. My son loved playing sports and my daughter loved her counselor/group. We headed to Massachusetts and she sulked the whole way. She wanted to go the camp for the rest of the summer. I thought the price was reasonable. I don't know if the prices went up but if they went up a little still well worth it. They took them to a nice pool club every day and then a different activity. I liked that they went to the park but my daughter loved going to the movies and bowling. One day it rained and they did an ice cream party (her favorite of course)at their headquartered locations which from the pictures I saw in the brochure looked good. Most important thing though was that it was organized and safe. They had a nurse and EMT on duty and the counselor to camper was like 3 to 1. The bus showed up on time every day and their was at least one counselor on the bus both ways. We are headed back to Queens this summer for at least 3 weeks and plan on enrolling my daughter if they do 3 weeks. Hell if it's reasonable enough I would pay for the 4 weeks. All in all a great experience.

We are not sure what we are doing this summer but even if we go on vacation for a couple of weeks during the summer I was told we could go the first few weeks, reserve the last 3 weeks and not lose our spot. NOTHING was done to solve the problem throughout the summer. Lunch or snacks are NOT included. Weekly trips are $80 EXTRA for every trip. So if you don't pay the extra $$$ weekly, your child does not got on ANY trips and is just stuck at the camp site. They ask for "tips to give to the counselors." They are a cheap camp (price wise) so you get what you pay for!!!!

Our "bonus" at the end was from singles to $20 ANDDDD it was technically the tips from the parents. The favoritism is ridiculous, My fellow counselor was suspended twice. Once because he wasnt fully responsible for a special mediation for a camper but it was misplaced and he got a day suspension. The second time he was telling a story to a camper ,very miscellaneous, and mentioned a female counselor's name. Now the camper assumes they are dating and tella their parents and the parents told the boss. The last day is the worst part , we still have camp running and we get back to pack a 26foot penske to a storage unit . Most of us woke up at 4am to get to camp at 7am to leave at 12am. The counselors were underage with furious parents. We basically worked for 18 hours and got paid half or a third.

Back in my day, it was much more limited: swimming took up about 80% of the time, with occasional trips to a run-down movie theater (where half the seats didn't work) and Adventureland amusement park. The one genuinely awesome activity was visiting this old-school arcade - that place was dope, and along with one kind bus monitor named Melissa, it's the only reason this review gets 2 stars. The camp's unprofessionalism and poor care really stand out in my memory. When I was 9, I had a bad fall that left scrapes all along the side of my face and knocked out one of my teeth - thankfully it was just a baby tooth and not a permanent one. Their idea of first aid? A band-aid and ice water in a plastic glove because they didn't even have proper ice packs. They didn't properly inform my mother about the extent of my injuries, so when I got home, she was shocked. She wrote a lengthy letter expressing her concerns about their negligence. Their response? The next day at camp, they pulled me aside to tell me I had "embarrassed them." I was just a kid who got hurt under their watch - what was there to be embarrassed about? The camp's staffing practices were concerning, to say the least. Instead of hiring qualified teachers or experienced childcare professionals, they filled positions with high school students as junior counselors and a few 18-22 year olds as the lead councelors. I remember overhearing them getting their monthly paychecks, well not overhear we were in an open field just sitting around cause that tends to happen there and then someone came with a whole bunch of envelopes and handed them out to them. I remember one girl received just $430 for four weeks of work, and she was visibly upset. At the time, as a kid, I thought that was a lot of money. Now I realize how absurd it was - less than $500 to watch other people's children for a month? No wonder the care was subpar. They were paying teenagers peanuts to handle significant responsibilities. Most of the bus monitors were incredibly mean to the kids, with one shining exception - Melissa. I still remember her decades later because she was the only one who showed genuine kindness. One counselor convinced a little girl to let her "borrow" her cell phone, then made international calls to the Dominican Republic (imagine that phone bill in the early 2000s!). Another counselor was eventually fired for being consistently cruel to the kids - she was clearly just there for the paycheck. While I see they've added more activities since my time there, my experiences were memorable for all the wrong reasons. Based on my time at Magic Day Camp, I wouldn't send my own children there. The administration seemed more focused on collecting fees than providing quality care and activities for the kids. That old arcade was amazing and Melissa was a saint, but two bright spots don't make up for everything else.

After self rating yourself using the NTRP chart, they place you in a group of 3-5 people led by an instructor. Everyone in my group is around the same playing level & our instructor Brian is the best!! Every week he switches it up on what we work on - from serving to volleys to slices and we usually play a few games too. The hour goes by so quick each week and I find myself wanting to play even more now. They also have a very large parking lot, a small shop inside where you can buy balls/snacks/etc., and a discount for members who join the adult clinic. If you're hesitant or nervous joining group activities like me then I recommend checking out Cunningham because I've been having a great experience.
