I was checking out preschools to send my daughter and this was one of the many I had visited. location wise, it is in a nice, clean and safe neighborhood. This nursery is actually located inside of an old church and was poorly maintainted, I saw holes in the ceiling and rust. The water fountain seemed out of order and there was tape all over it as if one of the kids did it. Everything had a layer of dust and you could clearly tell that a through cleaning was not done frequently. They have a huge gym on the second floor with various toys such as cars, bikes, etc which was a plus point since the kids get their fitness in but once again, toys were dirty and the gym needed a proper sweeping. I had asked the teacher, Althea/Athena as to how often they clean the toys, and she answered that they are only cleaned when the kids go on break sych as easter, christmas, etc. So cleaninless was definately a big concern for me, since the church is old, I was concerned of the quality of air and all that dust can trigger breathing issues. The bathroom looked dirty, It is located in the lobby outside, opposite of the classrooms. I saw obe of the kids go to the bathroom alone without an escort or supervision. there are no guards, and two exits so any child can possibly walk out. The place has security cameras but Ms Virginia was unavailable to further elaborate on their security policy. Also, I would like to add, underneath the staircase they had furniture stored which can be a safety hazard for a small child.
There are three classrooms, the smallest classroom had 16 students with 3 teachers. although the classrooms were decent size they seemed overcrowded.
in terms of educational philosophy, disciplinacy policy, ciriculum, and safety standards I cannot comment because Ms Virginia was not available. I has spoken to her twice, one to schedule a tour and again to confirm. However, when I got there she had left. She recently had a baby and had to leave unexpectedly. I completely understand Ms Virginia for leaving and sympathize with her since she is juggling a new baby and the school but I felt that It was irresponsible and careless that I was not informed by one of her secretaries or other staff member. Not only is it common courtesy but if someone if leaving their child in your hands, trust and responsibility go a long way. Its not her fault, but the staff couldve handled the matter in her absence.
I wish that I had a better idea of their academics.
improvements need to be made in establishing cleaning guidelines and sanitizing of toys and equipment as well as meeting safety standards. read more
