    CBC Thrift Store

I live in Lakeside and I always pass this little thrift shop and finally decided to stop in. The…read moreowner is friendly and chatty, which is nice. The store is small and packed with items. Everything is still accessible, though, except the dresses which are hung up on a wall. Lots of treasures on the clothing racks, some organized some not. A little bit of everything and all at very fair prices compared to Goodwill and Salvation Army. I appreciate when second hand shops actually keep their prices low(ya know, second hand prices), so this store checked all of those boxes for me. They have a standing mirror of a sort(not really full length), but no fitting rooms. That is the only bummer for me, BUT I understand why. The owner let me know that she has had a lot of issues with people stealing items, which makes me sad for a few reasons. 1. The owner is really lovely and has items out front for $1 that people can buy(but I suspect she would also give clothing items away to people who are really in a pinch). 2. This is a small shop and thievery is lame. If you want something for less, ask. Does not hurt to ask. Don`t steal. Please. I told her to make sure she has people leave larger bags/coats at the front counter and to also make a sign that says NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS, so people don't try to browse, "use the restroom" and then leave with stolen items. If you are stealing and reading this, don`t be a jerk. Send me a message and I`ll take you shopping here. Overall a really nice thrift store that I`ll be returning to while I`m here in Lakeside.

We were in the neighborhood, a quick Google led us to CBC Thrift Store on Woodside Ave. CBC is a small store. Mostly clothing, but a small inventory of other items also. I found a fun little matched set of a single waffle iron and a pancake griddle. Also a Funko "Star Wars" bobblehead. All for $13. Super nice lady running the place. We made a donation too. If you want some gently used Padres gear, head to CBC Thrift Store. Not the greatest thrift store, but a nice little family run mom-and-pop shop.

Recently, I drove to the La Mesa store with a car full of donations during a very heavy rainstorm. I pulled up to the marked donation drop-off door but was told I could not park there and needed to move across the lot, get a cart, and bring everything in myself. I explained that i was not parking, I am handicapped and offloading since it was pouring rain, but was still told no. I ended up leaving without donating or shopping. As a loyal supporter of FJV, I was very disappointed by the lack of understanding and outright rudness.

Father Joe's Villages Thrift Store has a beautiful selection, and I have come across some real gems…read morehere. The quality of the items is impressive, and the store is well organized, which makes browsing enjoyable. That said, the pricing feels more like a boutique than a thrift store. While I understand that proceeds go toward a good cause, I often leave empty‑handed because the prices are just too high for what I'd expect at a thrift. For me, part of the joy of thrifting is finding something wonderful and feeling like I scored a bargain -- not like I overpaid. If you don't mind paying a lot more, you'll likely find unique and quality pieces here. But if you're hunting for that classic thrift‑store bargain, be prepared that prices may not match the typical thrifting experience.
