I had heard from a friend that this place had great biscuits and gravy. I'm a big fan and have rarely had great B&G in Minnesota. Service was prompt and very helpful. I tried the cinammon roll which was just ok. Nothing special. Probably not baked there. Definitely not fresh. The biscuits and gravy was lukewarm. The gravy was very thin and had very little sausage in it. Worst part it was way under-seasoned. The bacon side order was good but again nothing special. I've been saying I want to come here for years because we pass it on the way to pick up the turkey at Ferndale's in Cannon Falls. It's more convenient on the way back. When you order coffee they give you a pot and it's a basic coffee. I got the senior pancake which is huge and fluffy. I could barely finish the one mostly because I ordered the senior biscuits and gravy which serves two. It just seemed like the kind of place that would do it well and they did. Basil loved his mushroom omelet. White toast was done just right and they actually know how to butter it. I sampled his hash browns and they were good as well. Kayla was our awesome server and always handy. I like how the restaurant is divided. I want to try lunch and possibly dinner another time. But it will always be our late November stop. my first time there i looked at the menu and i chose the Oscar burger because under it on the sign it said lettuce tomato onion and fries and a drink. i took my order back to my table only to find this dried out burger with a splash of ketchup and mustard and a couple pickles. I went to the counter and asked why i didn't get the lettuce and tomato and was told that i should have ordered the California Burger. I wish I could add a 6th Star to my review for server Maddie. Visited during lunchtime on a Thursday. She was the only server. I counted 8 table w/ average 2 to 4 per table, and she handled all with ease, always smiling, friendly and professional. A phenomenal server is hard to find these days- whatever Maddie is making, you should at least double it. Food? Delicious. Bacon Cheeseburger was amazing, as were the fries. Also in our party was an omelette and biscuits & gravy--all delicious. Very good prices for the portions. The decor is classic Mom&Pop meets '50s Diner. Great little stop we found on our way home to Illinois. Very convenient location, with a great server who was handling the entire dining room quickly, friendly, and never missed a beat. The food was great, it did take almost 30 minutes to get our food but we kind of expected that after we ordered after a very large group of 10+ people. Just met my mom for lunch today. I have driven by here thousands of times....now regretting it's taken me so long to stop in!!! It was a lovely little place; counter seating ahead, table seating to the right, and booth seating to the left. Our server Katie was friendly. Thanks to her pointing out the special on the whiteboard I chose a DELICIOUS lunch!! Well it will be dinner too!! The roast beef sandwich; which was an open faced sandwich drown in gravy and a large helping of mashed potatoes!!! Everything about this meal screamed: grandma's kitchen, it had th homecooked attention. If I didn't stop myself I would definitely still be there... sleeping in my truck in the parking lot. My mom opted for the Loaded Hashbrowns, that she said were delicious as well. She also had another meal in left overs. We stopped for breakfast on our way to the twin cities...it was an impulse stop, and we were really pleased that we did! The service was wonderful - we were greeted and seated immediately, and a waitress was with us immediately for drinks and suggestions. My wife got a breakfast with a pancake...it was gigantic! She also had eggs and bacon - both were perfectly cooked. My breakfast was corned beef hash, hash browns, and eggs over easy. Everything was perfectly prepared and served piping hot. Highly recommended for a great, down home breakfast. Not because it's fancy (it's not) or because its menu is unique (also not), but because it's just plain old a great breakfast in a classic diner setting. The dining room is clean and the staff is friendly. (The pancakes are as big as your plate, and their caramel rolls & cinnamon rolls are HUGE!) The best hot turkey sandwich there is in this area! Little Oscar's made it ALL from scratch (except maybe the bread?); where does that happen now? Perfectly roasted turkey, homemade turkey gravy which was not too salty, and oh my lord, real whipped potatoes.They say they are historically known for their coffee. Too bland for those who drink espresso, but I love it. So then get tea! Great price and great service too. Two thumbs way up! read more

Visited this place on our way home this morning after an early morning flight from Boston. The place is hard to find if you are southbound on US 52 but we travel this road so much we see it often and thought we would give it a try. It has been about twenty years since we visited this place, way before YELP, when you looked for a crowded parking lot to gauge a review. BTW, this place always has a full parking lot! Northbound traffic on US 52 has a special exit for this business, well maybe the other couple of businesses too! The parking lot was full so we were expecting to wait but I forgot how big this place is. We were seated immediately and the server was johnny-on-the-spot for our drink order. Water was placed on the table without even asking...some like that and some don't. I like it!! Always have room for water. Breakfast time and this place is well known for it. We all ordered something different and the food was promptly at our table in under 10 minutes. It was tough to decide between a Chicken Fried Steak and an omelet. Wife took care of the omelet order. The portions are HUGE and the price vs. value is outstanding. The CFS was served hot and the gravy had good flavor. Eggs, Toast and hashbrowns came with the order. All tasted good. Only complaint, thiner crisper hashbrowns but that is a personal preference. Omelet and sausage patties/links tasted good. Now the pancakes are HUGE. Two might be too much! Place is well kept and very "homey". Highly recommend you stop on your way up to the Twin Cities. read more

We sat down and within five minutes asked when our other two party members would be there and if they would be there within "three minutes" as they were walking in the door. Best bets: the chicken dinner will blow away Colonel Sanders - because it's better than some bucket head KFC. Also the salad has real bacon! Not those Bac-o's that are from God only knows what kind of animal. Biggest complaint was the service. Pretty sure they were in a hurry to get home and not interested in serving. My bacon has a first name, it's O S C A R. I've long since forgotten it's second name. Little Oscars is a throwback diner situated in Hampton (a little ways North of Canon Falls). The building at least has been here a good long time as I remember stopping here over 20 years ago. Don't remember if it was called Little Oscar's then. It has beautiful windows overlooking Hwy 52 which makes the dining room bright and cheery. There are railroad tracks running above the diners although the engine was dormant when we were there. The food here is diner standard, but done nicely. They refer to their "signature" bacon quite a few times on the menu, so I thought I'd give it a go. Eggs, Toast hash Browns and Bacon for me. My wife had the Turkey Plate. The boy had French Toast with Ring Sausage. My breakfast was A-Ok. The hash browns were crisp - not too greasy. The bacon is a standout. What ever you get, get it with bacon.If you get a BLT order it with extra bacon :) French Toast is made with Texas toast. and is good. The Ring Sausage was nice. The Turkey plate was gobbled up. When on the road to Rochester, this makes a nice pit stop. read more
