Best salsa in town and chips .. Tex mex food but my husband loves it and has went there since kids

I have been coming to Palestine for about 4 or 5 years now and have noticed that this place is busy every time that I come to town. I had to see exactly what the big deal was. I was greeted warmly when I arrived and seated immediately by who I believe was probably the owner of the place. It was a nice warm welcome. This restaurant has been here and been in operation since 19 67. It had the look and feel of a retro style Mexican restaurant so I'm not sure how much if any updating has been done over the years. The service was a little slow especially for what I have become accustomed to at most Mexican restaurants. Finally after about 10 minutes of sitting there our waitress came and introduced her self and things went forward from there. After our order was taken it took another 10 to 15 minutes to get our food. Not sure what the delay was because everything we ordered was pretty standard Fair for a Mexican restaurant. We got combo plates but essentially the ingredients of our combo plates were rice and beans and tacos. My husband & I went here for lunch, we had never been there before. All in all it was a really good experience. The server was friendly & the food was really good. If you go, go hungry, they bring a serious amount of food. We both got one of their combo plates & loved it. The restaurant was very clean, as was the restroom. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again read more

Drove from DFW to meet friends. Chose Little Mexico because it had been open sine since 1967. We were not disappointed. Service and ambiance. Tacos were fresh and tasty. First night in town this trip and Little Mexico was our pick. Hubby isn't from here but out of the nearly 30 years he's been coming here with me & eating Tex-Mex, this has become our favorite! I typically have a cup of Frijoles El Jefe with a CCQ and it fills me up. The Frijoles El Jefe is on both the appetizer & soup menus, cup or a bowl. This is a delicious & hearty dish. Calling it soup doesn't do it justice as it is thick with very little liquid. It's a combination of ground beef, tomatoes, onions, beans, jalapeño & cilantro slow-cooked into a deliciousness that is indescribable. It is topped with cheese & avocado. I wish this was available where I live! Hubby deviated from his favorite chicken tacos & ordered the burritos this time. He had one topped with queso sauce & the other with chili. The queso sauce here is fantastic! The chili is really good but we could only eat so much. There was a LOT of chili on there! That being said, portion sizes are large. I didn't sample the burritos themselves but hubby said they were good. I was too full for anything but the sauces. My mom ordered the chicken pequita fajitas, which is a scaled down fajita platter. Their fajitas are super tasty! Personally I prefer their beef fajitas as they have just a touch of char and are scrumptious. My mom eats chicken so often that I expect she'll be laying eggs at some point. Daddy got the sour cream enchiladas, a favorite of the locals. Spacious and nicely decorated interior. Welcoming with its great ambiance. If you like Tex-Mex, queso, and refried beans from a can, food that's kinda Mexican yet kinda not, this might be an acceptable restaurant for you. But if you like authentic Mexican food made similarly to the way it is made across our southern border you must continue your quest, because this is NOT the restaurant for you. Nothing Vegan. Lots of pork, lard, beef and chicken. Most people rave about their food so why change the menu?

Chips and salsa r a no for me here.. that's ok because the chicken enchiladas and stuffed poblanos peppers r a yes.. and esp pickup they give you enough for lunch and dinner def recommend but this to me is more Tex Mex I prefer authentic read more

Traveling through the area, we decided on Little Mexico. The salsa was not much more than stewed tomatoes with a hot sauce kicker. However, the meal itself was quite good. The service was top notch and more than made up for a lackluster salsa. All in all, we would go again. read more

The man that greets you is very nice. The place looks ok and seemed to have a lot of cars parked outside which we thought was a good sign. But it was awful food. What we ordered was simple enough, First plate was Nachos - they were not hot, the cheese was cold and pulled off of the nachos - just not that good but edible. Second plate was 1 beef enchilada with rice and beans, and a chalupa. The enchilada was drowned in chili gravy - you could not find the enchilada because it was mush. The beans tasted awful, I did not even try the rice. The chalupa could not be picked up, there was so much stuff on it and the tortilla chip was mushy - buried under soupy beans and lettuce and tomato piled high. The guacamole had a "twang" taste, it was also mush, and I believe it was just something poured out of a container. Not happy with the food at all. Tea was good! Both times; good service and good food. The lunch plates are a good buy with plenty of food. Everything we have had here was good. My only complaint is that they do not have hot salsa. I like it hot. But, I asked for a couple of chili toreados and the waitress brought them. That made up for it. If you are passing through Palestine TX, give it a try. We will be back. My family has been eating at Little Mexico since 1970. The recipe has not changed. If you love Tex-Mex food, this is a must place to try. The staff is friendly and the food is served piping hot! The chips and salsa is the best! Order the Matador and get a sampling of most items on the menu. It's delicious! read more

Wow. Could LITERALLY purchase food off the grocery store shelves tastier.... I have had Swanson Mexican fozen TV dinner that were better... There must be an art to sucking every last vestige of flavor or spice from every single ingredient.... I came here to see if maybe I was crazy. NOPE. 21 one star reviews (now 22 with mine) and they all say the same thing. People who like this place HAVE to be 2 pack a day smokers and 70 years old... their taste buds fell off years ago. We found the chicken enchiladas on the bland side. Been here twice now but the food is inconsistent so we may not return. A downside is they don't have a liquor license so no margaritas or even beer here. On the upside, Luis is one of the best waiters I've ever had. He's been working there for 20 years and really knows how to give the best customer service. read more

Hey y'all I'm back. Lol. Me and the hubby had to go replace a car windshield in jewitt texas. I hope I spelled that right. Well on the way home through Palestine we wanted to get a bit to eat. I really didn't feel like fast food like Taco Bell or juicy taco or anything like that. But we seen little Mexico so we thought yeah let's do it. I was hoping it was going to be just like the little Mexico In Longview but it is not. Sad . But I did enjoy it!!! I really liked the atmosphere and the staff was awesome. The menu was tiny but I always really only get the same thing no matter what Mexican restaurant I go too. I got the senor dinner. Which is cheese enchiladas,rice,and a tostado with cheese on top. I got a bowl of beans and a tamale with queso on top. And I also put queso on my enchiladas to. Hubby got the beef and bean nachos with jalapeño and we both got dr. Peppers. When you first get seated they bring out your chips and salsa. I was kinda like oh no when I seen the salsa it looked bright red and thin. But I really liked it!! To me the chips were good. I ate a lot of chips and salsa. Dr. Peppers actually tasted like dr. Pepper!!!! When my food came out omg!!! Queso heaven!!!!!!! They are not stingy on the food and the queso!!!! I loved my plate everything on it. And my tamale was really good also. My husband ate all his nachos and salsa and chips and he is picky y'all when it comes to salsa but he likes it. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the price to me was a bit high. It should have been lunch prices you know it was about 1 o'clock when we ate. And the menu being so small I had to squint to read it. But if I ever go back through that area and I want Tex mex I will be going back. And to all the haters on the place. It is TEX-Mex!!! Overall it was ok. Decor, staff and price was good. The food was just ok. We had fajitas, enchiladas, queso, salsa (pretty good salsa) and rice and beans. Everything was ok. That's the best I can say. I suspect that it'll be better as leftovers a few days from now. read more

Wow...after reading some of these reviews, I wonder what the problem is? The food is always good @ Little Mexico. My favorite is Pollo Asado (grilled chicken breast w/ sauteed onion & bell pepper..topped w/ colby jack cheese) w/ rice & beans and guacamole. It is perfect every time! The sour cream chicken enchiladas are really good as well. We've always had good / fast service @ Little Mexico. The food is great Tex-Mex. Little Mexico is clean and the wait staff is friendly. Little Mexico doesn't serve alcohol...we go to El Toro if we want a good margarita. read more

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant of all and it's in Palestine. I've been coming here since I was a little boy with my family my mom my dad my brother and my sister. They have the best chips and salsa they were super crispy and the salsa was amazing. I got two ground beef enchiladas, 2 cheese enchiladas one ground beef crispy taco. It was totally the bomb I haven't been here in a while. It's totally quaint and original Mexico type of style and the food is just amazing and my waiter was really sweet and awesome Yet again definitely my favorite of all. the sweet tea was awesome as well. read more

This place was awful. I have a cheese enchilada. The cheese was grainy. The "queso" had no flavor. The "salsa" taste like tomato sause with cayenne added. The rice was hard and tasted like it came out of a box. I will NEVER go back. read more

I ate the cheese, chicken quesadilla. They come with tomatoes and onions. I didn't know that so I had to ask for quesadillas with no veggies. You can absolutely get them with veggies I'm just not a fan of them. Overall, this restaurant has amazing service. I will definitely come here again, if I could. Good portion sizes. Great service!
