A (voluntary) donation to this fantastic community (of mostly volunteers) is absolutely worth every cent. Such friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff just add to the pleasure. The next time you're considering buying tools or equipment (that you'll probably use a handful of times and store in the shed) consider borrowing the tools you need from the NE Seattle Tool Library instead.

Vinyl selection is organized, and most of them are graded and priced accordingly. Just a note that I only picked up NM (Near Mint) records for older records, but grading seems a little too generous here as one of the records had many visible scratches when you hold it under the light and you can hear them when playing (for comparison, I don't see NM grading as common in other record shops). I picked up a handful of records here. The staff is knowledgable and friendly, and atmosphere is nice with light pop songs playing in the background. It seems they also have vinyl listening sessions too. Check out the staff picks and local sections as well as the bargain bin for some interesting selections.

They purchase and sell lego sets, including older sets that are very hard to source. The oldest I've seen was from 1980, to give you an idea. Most are contemporary or from the 2010s, of course. The prices are very fair. An out of print set might go for a few bucks more than its original retail price if it isn't super rare. The owner isn't trying to gouge you and she's very open about her pricing policy. The owner is a font of knowledge about all things lego. She's extremely dedicated: she verifies every used set for integrity (and replaces missing bricks), she guarantees completeness for any set you buy, she'll source lego sets for you, she'll hold sets for you at the cash, and answer every which question you have. She's also very personable. The store attracts teens, families and adult collectors.

The Edmonds Waterfront Center (EWC) located at 220 Railroad Ave in Edmonds, Washington, is a true…read moregem in the Puget Sound region. We go to the EWC regularly when we visit Edmonds. It's right on the waterfront, on a pretty stretch of beach where you can see the ferries coming in and out. Formerly the South County Senior Center, then the Edmonds Senior Center, the buildings there were rebuilt into an environmentally-sound, multi-generational and multicultural center with all kinds of classes, programs, clinics, and events. My hubs and I went to the EWC last night to see wildlife photographer and author Paul Bannick speak about his new book on woodpeckers in North America. It was a fascinating talk and slideshow in their big room on the first floor! This is just one example of the great speakers and performers that the EWC hosts all the time. They have rooms with beautiful views of the water that you can rent. Last December, we went to a memorial there for a longtime family friend and it was a great place to honor her and her legacy. When I am retired, or when I can carve out more time in my schedule, I plan on taking advantage of the many classes offered at the EWC. For now, I'll keep going to their terrific events and enjoying the wonderful view.

Nice, clean, organized, and well stocked. Sales proceeds assists 4 legged pets. The Homie and I wandered the entire store, but bypassed the rows upon rows of clothing, shoes, and accessories. Retail items included ephemera, bric a brac, home decor, furniture, household goods, tools, computer gear, small appliances, toys, puzzles, books & media, crafting and office supplies. I passed on a melamine plate with rabbits, bag of loose keys, and a Remington manual typewriter. Really should have of bought that plastic bag filled with assorted keys! The Homie bought VHS formats of a Star Trek episode and a boxed set on warfare history. Seems like Shoreline is becoming a thrifter's destination with Deseret Industries, Goodwill, Magpie Thrift, and now Bella's Voice.

I purchased a rug that was tightly rolled and sealed with tape, so there was no way to inspect it at the store. When I got it home and opened it, it was in unacceptable condition--heavily stained, paint marks, and a strong cigarette odor. This is not an item that should have been on the sales floor. I brought it back within a week with the tag attached and receipt in hand. The manager did not start by looking at the condition. Instead, she went straight to finding reasons to deny the return. First she said there was no tag (there was), then said they don't accept returns on "furniture." At no point did Manager Leonora engage with the actual issue. When I tried to show her why I was returning it, another employee inserted herself and escalated the interaction. I did raise my voice out of frustration but I made no threats and was trying to explain a legitimate issue. Rather than hearing the concern or working toward a solution, the situation escalated quickly. I was told to leave or the police would be called for trespassing--and that is exactly what happened. Police were called over a return. Even after I apologized and offered reasonable solutions (exchange or completing my purchase), the manager declined and stayed focused on denying the return and involving public law enforcement. The responding officer even looked at the rug and attempted to find an amicable resolution. My daughter, who was not involved in the interaction, was also threatened with trespass, which was upsetting and unnecessary. This should have been straightforward customer service: 1. The item was not in acceptable condition 2, It was packaged in a way that prevented inspection 3. A reasonable review could have resolved it Instead, it escalated into a situation involving publicly funded law enforcement over a defective item. As a nonprofit serving the community, I would expect a greater emphasis on resolving issues directly rather than relying on public resources to shut down a legitimate concern. For a place called Bella's Voice, it was surprising how quickly the conversation was shut down. I sent a letter to the Executive Director a month ago and no reply whatsoever. We had the place to ourselves and spent an enjoyable hour taking in the surroundings and interpretive signs. The signs identify as well as speak of the traditional usage of the various plants by NW tribes along with the legends of the Coast Salish. There are a wealth of habitats and cultural perspectives represented here. Truly a haven for nature and humanity. The Cedar Cathedral has forever changed the way I view PNW forests. The gift shop is small but rich in literature and local art. The volunteers we met throughout the center were friendly and personally invested in the conservation work of the foundation. Admission is reasonable and a membership option is available for those who wish to further support Adopt A Stream. Easy access to the center from the ferry and freeway. Convenient parking available free of charge. The only public restroom is a portable one in the neighboring park. There are picnic tables outside the gate.

The staff were friendly as we entered and pointed us in the right direction for the play area. The play area is smallish, crowded and over-stimulating by way of so many things in the room. They do a good job of organizing it with numerous bins and boxes. But...there is so much in there, it's difficult to focus your attention on any one thing. Children are supervised only by their parents. A craft is available at small tables set up with supplies. The same table is used for a snack that is provided at about 11:00-11:30. (On this day: sugary graham crackers, hard raisins, sliced apples and a couple of shriveled mandarins.) We have understood that there is normally a structure to the 90-minute Playgroup, but one teacher didn't show up and the second was so late that we were gone by the time he or she may have showed up. It serves a good purpose in the community, but the Playgroup may be worth a skip.
