I love the Little Free Library movement (it's my dream to have one of my own someday) and this Little Free Library is adorable. It's in the middle of Seneca Park near the water fountain. This one was placed by the Neighbor to Neighbor Literacy Project, and is the first of the boxes they placed. The outside is decorated with birds and foliage in keeping with the park setting, and the inside is decorated with book pages.
I'm not sure if the box is filled by the Neighbor to Neighbor project or just individuals (or both) but when we were here there was a good variety of books here. Perhaps that's in part because it's located directly across the street from Lurie Children's Hospital and children in the hospital may not have books handy? (I mean, this box is in Streeterville, so the neighborhood kids come from families that can afford books.) My friend and I were with our kids and picked a couple books and they were pristine to the point that I wondered if they were brand new when they were placed; the only "damage", if you could call it that, were slightly wavy pages but that's down to the weather as of late. read more
