As fate would happen, Jess' mother was whom I was chatting with! She suggested I check with Jess at J Gorman. The owner and gemologist, Jess, has such a wonderful mindset. Her attention is on you, and she gives you the best, honest options. I left her store the first time with a beautiful vintage ring. I returned with an heirloom (my M-I-L's wedding band, which had been cut off her finger in the hospital). I asked Jess for custom solution for the ring that could become an heirloom in our family. Jess was thoughtful and considerate of what this piece would mean to us. She came up with a simple and cost effective solution to make it into a pendant. Upon first seeing the completed the necklace, my heart filled with joy. I'd held onto the platinum ring for years. Jess even made sure the original engraving was kept intact. I've worn it everyday since picking it up. Just as I think my daughter will when she inherits it. Jess is a true GEM, and I'm grateful for the chance meeting with her Mom in that little shop. She's terrific and her and her staff do fabulous work from start to finish.

This is the place to buy the famous Herkimer diamonds - both raw or cut and set. Herkimer diamonds are actually double terminated quartz crystals. Smaller specimens are clear and perfect. Larger specimens contain defects. They own the mines and also offer collecting expeditions which are a couple miles away. . The shops are across from the exit. There is plenty of parking with some special accessible. There are clean restrooms. The staff is friendly and excited to discuss the inventory in the gem shop. There were 4 cases of Herkimer cut and uncut stones. The selection included rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. The had specimens of druzy Herkimer quartz as well. Jewelry prices were reasonable so I brought two bracelets set in sterling. Stones are not cut locally. They also sell other imported stones and specimens. We picked up rock candy and post cards too. They offer boat tours of the Erie Canal section. The dock along the canal is lovely. There is a restaurant that we did not try. Next time.

They wedged in a stripped out screw they had in back of the store that doesn't match the other screws and lied saying they found the lost screw. These people are liars and lowlife for doing that. I was going to get a new battery but the store has a policy that they only charge $5 if you bring your battery in, so I did. As I was asking about pricing an older woman came out of the back (I assume she was the manager). She exclaimed in an annoyed tone "wait he brought the battery in?!?" And the snagged my watch from young girls hand and literally shoved the watch back into my face and quite rudely said to me..."well then we can't help you".
