Taking Heathermarie's parenting class has transformed my relationship with child and has grown my confidence as a mother. Heathermarie's approach to teaching is rooted in kindness and positivity; this has been so impactful to my learning as someone who struggles to open up and fears judgment. She was very attentive and made every effort to learn about my concerns and goals. I feel like Heathermarie tailored our lessons just for me. I have not found this in any of the classes I've taken from other providers in the past. Thanks to Heathermarie's guidance, I have developed and continue to build, practical strategies for resolving conflict and connecting with my daughter, even when we are rushed for time throughout the week. Heathermarie is an amazing and excellent educator and professional. I am forever grateful to her and cannot endorse her enough.

With her impressive credentials and unwavering commitment to high standards & innovation, she has created an environment where children thrive. She has thoughtfully designed her classrooms and curriculum to foster curiosity, independence, and a love for learning. I've personally gotten to know many of the children that graduated from Skipping Stones and beyond excelling in academics, you can see they have a deep sense of community, kindness, and respect for their environment. I highly recommend Skipping Stones.

Each student is well known by their teachers & celebrated, encouraged & dare I say, loved? Valued? It is truly a unique place. In addition to that rarity, the school is FUN! They find ways to teach that are creative & engage kids because they are having a good time. This is not your average education but rather a living breathing education-full of excitement. For example, chemistry may be taught via cooking and biology through a mystery that needs to solved. The headmaster is a graduate of Waldorf (Steiner) school & has brought the excellence of that education to her program. You won't find ANYTHING else like this in South Florida. I can't think of many schools where a child is so well cared for emotionally as well as academically. If you are lucky enough to stumble upon this little gem in South Florida you won't want to pass it up. Unconventional? Yes. However, it WORKS. The children are receiving an A+++ education in an alternative setting with amazing educators who see their 'job' as a calling & are head and shoulders above other educators. Give it a try--they welcome any child to come for a day or two visit so that they can see first hand what it is all about. Your child will come home raving & will actually be EXCITED about a SCHOOL! Meet with the headmaster and see for yourself what an elegant, caring, extremely intelligent, strong and capable woman she is. I can say that I feel blessed that my son has the chance to attend this school. I could go on and on but I suggest that you check it out for yourself. Also, it is a private school and education of this quality cost money. What better investment is there though really? However, I should mention that that do have tuition assistance and will also help you look for any scholarships that you may qualify for so, don't let the fact that you have to pay tuition deter you from at least checking it out. Where there is a will there is a way. If every child were given a healthy place to grow and learn like this, the world would be a much better place. Heck! We should ALL be seen, honored and celebrated the way students are at this school! It is located in the Jewish Community Center however, it is NOT a religious school BUT it IS a 'spiritual' school in that the students are taught to care for one another, the greater community, the planet and environment and THEMSELVES. This being said, it is NOT some 'Hippy' school. It is a serious program and a lot is offered and expected from the students academically. I would say the classes are more akin to an undergraduate program at a good university. They are certainly far more challenging than a regular high school-private or public. The students are expected to research & write at a college level (They are WELL taught and guided to be able to do so). They all take Latin, do community service as well as internships in fields of their own interest. They research utilizing real scientific publications and are taught to properly use them. This is an exceptional college preparatory program. Upon graduation they should be able to coast on auto-pilot through an undergraduate degree. There is also a STRONG sense of community. No high school 'Clicks'. No one's excluded, there is NO bullying or teasing-PERIOD. All of these 'details' are paid close attention to by the staff. I could go on and on but , see for yourself. The headmaster's name is Wendy Weiner and she welcomes visitors. Mrs. Weiner is an exceptional human being. When she felt that South Florida was lacking an acceptable school for her two lovely daughters to attend--she OPENED her own school! Wow. That alone speaks volumes about her but she is also a warm, kind woman. She's strong and capable in a way that inspires others just through her presence. Her children are both amazing young women and demonstrate what an awe-inspiring mother Wendy is. Her eldest daughter is now attending college where she is a member of a co-ed 'Community Service' Fraternity. Clearly she is following in her parents footsteps and giving back to others. Mr. Weiner has also played an essential part in bringing Conservatory Prep to fruition. He is a warmhearted, friendly and earnest man. He works with sincerity and I swear the man has stealth skills! His modesty and humble way of keeping all the wheels in motion is admirable. A husband and wife team adds to the feeling of community that is rarely found anymore and set's a positive example for the children of a loving, intact marriage. Every detail in this tiny school has been considered and achieved. The students, faculty and parents/guardians form a community that touches my heart and feels more like an extended family than simply an institution of learning. "They're not the best at what they do, they're the ONLY ones that do what they do." ~Bill Graham

Four years later I chose it again for my second child, who is now about to complete his preschool stage. Not to say that I didn't like any of the other schools I visited. We are lucky in Miami to have so many great choices for preschool. But this little gem spoke to my heart. It truly is a place where families experience learning together. As a cooperative preschool, parents work along side the teacher, who by the way has been there for about 20 years and is truly dedicated to her mission. The children learn, and learn to love learning, by doing a lot of what they do best: play...inside and outdoors. They also have daily structured art, math, science, reading, pre writing, and writing activities. Because of the class size, the teacher is able to assist each child at their own level, and there are about two field trips each month!!!, so as a group you also get to know Miami and what it has to offer the community quite well! You get to truly meet the parents of the other children, since it's not just a drop off place, and your family finances don't suffer, because it costs a fraction of what all other schools in Miami cost (plus VPK4 year is completely free!). My second child graduates in less than a month, but my entire family will carry this little place forever close to our hearts. We all are better people because of the five years spent at this little treasure we found.

The classrooms are beautifully decorated, giving a very peaceful vibe to kids, lots of open ended toys with no electronic toys around. There is a routine where children play outside and come inside to sit and eat together following circle time with songs and movements. After that free play. My daughter keeps asking to go back and already knows what's next. This routine provides safety. Snacks served are healthy, simple. The activities are calming and teaching real life (cleaning up the plates, composting, tidying up all together, sweeping the garden, watering the plants). There was not a single teacher I have met that was pushing for any specific religious or spiritual believes in the last 30+ sessions I have attended. This type of school environment is definitely not for all parents. Do your research and know that your kids won't be stressed to achieve academics as early as possible but they would be challenged to follow the routines to actually develop their social/real life skills which is the most important part of early childhood development.

She went from not knowing any letters to being a bookworm in nine months. I have so many anecdotes to tell but my favorite moment happened in February when I went to pick her up early from school so we could go to Disney World. Her class was working on a project that supports times table learning. She did not want to leave class early TO GO TO DISNEY WORLD!!!! She wanted to finish her project. As I waited for her I looked at the work the children do at the school in awe. They don't only work on memorizing maps in geography class, they study and draw their own maps on their workbook. Their work was so detailed... No wonder she doesn't want to leave. I am satisfied with so many aspects of waldorf education especially for the love of learning that it has ingrained in both my children.
