Both my children attended skipping stones, it reminded me of the play schools I had known growing up in England. It has an innocence to it that you don't see in Miami, the children get to play, be creative by painting or making something for a holiday, play outside where there's a beautiful banyan tree and a kitchen! Skipping stones was perfect for my family, we felt safe there in a beautiful nurturing environment where the kids learned so much, they learned their letters and numbers etc but also how to be kind to one another. Heathermarie took care of my kids as if they were her own and now that they are teenagers she welcomes them back over the summer to volunteer at the summer camp. We stumbled upon Skipping Stones after making a quick decision to depart our 2 year olds first school based on a not so great circumstance. Needless to say we had trust issues and were concerned about placing our confidence in another school. Well, that quickly vanished upon entering the small but mighty campus of Skipping Stones and meeting the teachers and administration. We are almost one year in to our time at Skipping Stones now. It's more than a school, it's a family, it's our daughters favorite place to go. It's a safe, warm, healthy and enlightening environment. When we bring her to school each day we know our daughter is learning but more importantly we know she's being seen, loved and cared for. Sadly we are moving out of Miami and leaving a spot for another lucky kiddo and parents to join the Skipping Stones family. My family absolutely loves Skipping Stones! The owner's teaching philosophy is right in line with ours - small ratio, children learn through creative play and hands on experiences. That, coupled with the following comment she, Heathermarie, made sold me - She wants to help these children become compassionate people. Who can argue with that? We started with summer camp for a few weeks to see how it would go. It went even better than I expected! My little one barely gave me a second glance whenever I left, and this is still true today. It is incredible to see how my toddler is blossoming all around from her experiences there. She's speaking more clearly and using more words, singing, dancing, playing independently, recognizing letters and numbers and so forth. Not to mention the great art projects she comes home with. They even do yoga! The families attending are pretty cool and I've met some really nice parents. Oh, and the teachers speak English and Spanish, and sing some songs in Japanese too! We met the owner of Skipping Stones, Heathermarie, the first time when our son was just about 17 months old. We had started to think about some sort of day care for him but just could not find the right place. Heathermarie came across very loving and caring but at the same time very knowledgeable and interested. We decided to trust our instincts and went for it. Of course there were tears the first few times we dropped our son off but soon those tears changed to smiles as Heathermarie or one of her awesome teachers would take him and love all over him. All the children at Skipping Stones are treated equally. While they learn to respect and love each other they also learn things that I would have never thought possible for kids that age to learn. And the best thing is, they do not even know that they are learning because it is all play based. Their activities include yoga, arts and crafts, Spanish, trips to the Museum etc. And did I mention that the kids and parents who come to this school are some of the nicest people we have met in Miami? In conclusion I have to say that we were very lucky to find this little gem. It is like a little oasis, yes even paradise in an otherwise crazy world.
