2.5 The thing about…read moresmall resort towns is that there isn't a thing... ya know? Things are what they are and if you don't like it... well... I don't know what to tell you. You're stuck. Oh, before I go any further, this was a pre-lockdown experience. I made my way to Garrett County in late fall. I was catching up with some of my oldest guy friends for a much-needed guys weekend. Being the Type A sort I am (and having never been to this part of the state before), I arrived earlier than everyone else -- much earlier. After gorging myself upon arrival on chips, Oreo cookies and Coca-Cola (a balanced lunch if ever there was one), I realized that I needed to eat something for dinner. I wasn't familiar with the area and the next shipment of attendees weren't showing up until midnight. Oh, and did I mention that I was at a lake house -- with a first floor of all windows -- by myself? And, it was snowing. AND I didn't have cell service. Yes, I was in a horror movie. Trying not to think about my impending doom, I found a drawer of menus and pressed my luck with an easy bet: pizza! In the real world, I have gluten issues. But I knew better than to come to a small(er) town with dietary restrictions and other needs. That was doing too much. Pizza, it was. The young lady on the phone was lovely and when she found out where I was staying, she had to get the okay for delivery (if that gives you any indication of how remote I was... and how I was going to have to fight for my life later). She got the ok and I ordered a pepperoni, sausage and onion pizza. No problem. I was charged a king's ransom for delivery and quoted a long time for arrival but I was alright with both things. I was off the grid, it was snowing and was thankful for any sort of delivery options. After a while, the food eventually showed up. The driver was polite. I paid, tipped and thanked him and I was ready to dig in to the first non-gluten-free pizza I'd had in a while. Despite the oncoming gastric distress, I was looking forward to the familiar taste of flour-y goodness. Imagine my shock and disappointment with what I received. It was not good, y'all. In fact, it may have been some of the nastiest pizza I'd had in quite some time. You see how the earlier review wrote about 'soggy' food? Yep. That. The dough was soggy (see picture), the cheese was congealed and the sauce was tangy. The pie was incredibly greasy and the middle was undercooked. None of this was a good combo. Despite my hunger, I could only suffer through one piece.* I don't want to kick a business when it may be down so I'll reiterate that the employees were very nice. I also thought the sausage (when eaten by itself) was good. The pizza I got was pan-style and the crust was enjoyable. But, I'm afraid, that's the extent of the good things I can say. *My buddies eventually arrived, started drinking like fish and knocked off the rest of the pizza in a drunken stupor -- as one does.
