"Just a perfect day Drink sangria in the park And then later, when it gets dark We go home" (Lou Reed) Well, we didn't drink any sangria in the park but we had a blast feeding the ducks in the park. The park has a huge Pond that must be home to 200 ducks and a few vending machines that pump out a fistful of duck feed for a quarter. When I tossed a few grains of that feed onto the grass, all duckin'hell broke loose as all 200 of them came swimming or running towards me, quacking away like Donald Duck on a bad acid trip. Lititz Spring Park is over 200 years old and is a real gem. It was run by the local Moravian Church for decades before responsibility for its maintenance transitioned over to the community itself - there are zero tax dollars involved at all. It's run by a 12 member board of community leaders and is funded through volunteer donations and rental of park facilities. The park is a lovely oasis in the center of Lititz, so go, stroll the grounds, and enjoy the antics of those crazy ducks. They are guaranteed to make you smile.

    The historic Reading Railroad caboose

Bottom Line: A quaint, beautiful and peaceful park. My husband and I made several visits to this park during recent visits to Lititz. During out first visit we did a little casual exploring like walking the grounds, admiring the landscaping, checking out the ducks and reading about the caboose which unfortunately wasn't open for visitors. On our second visit we really enjoyed a little breakfast picnic at one of the provided picnic tables while watching the morning dog walkers stroll the grounds with their furry companions. Two things that I really like about this park are the landscaping and the canal-like water feature, better known as Lititz Run, that stretches through the majority of the park. I found the long and narrow water feature to be very mesmerizing and I couldn't help but follow along the edge to see where it would take me. I believe Lititz Run was originally a spring-fed creek and the stone surround was added for perhaps recreational reasons. The historic park includes various pavilions that can be rented, a playground, a band shell and some other features. I found it interesting to learn that this park is privately owned by the Lititz Moravian Congregation but that they have opened it to the public. The park is maintained by another group that represents the churches of Lititz including volunteers. That is very generous! A bit peculiar is one of the park's rules which prohibits "games of chance" so I guess that rules out playing Old Maid or or various other card games while picnicking! There are various special events held in the park throughout the year but when we visited it was just a quiet and peaceful scene.

Right at the start of the pandemic my daughter decided to travel cross country with grandkids in tow for a visit. My grandson stayed with me for a few days. It was over a year since I've seen him and he's now 3. With everything closed and the fear of covid lurking I looked for ways to keep him entertained and safe during his stay. Although the weather was still pretty chilly in March I discovered he loved being outside. Since I was paranoid about playgrounds I thought visiting and feeding the ducks would be a fun activity for him. I've honestly never been to Lititz Spring Park when there wasn't an event going on. I've been here in the past for fireworks and the craft show but never been here when it's empty. I didn't even know what it offered. It is the hub of Lititz and many social gatherings pre covid were held here. It's a well manicured park in the middle of downtown, very easy to find off 501. It consists of grassy area with a man made stone canal that runs the length of the park leading to a pond in the front and ending at the spring in the back. There's a small playground, rest rooms, picnic tables, and a pavilion if I remember correctly. There's limited batches of parking and is located right next to a train track. The canals are unique and very clean. Many different kinds of ducks like to congregate year round and welcome your food offerings. Since bread isn't good for them we feed them corn and my grandson was in awe of all the attention he received while carrying the container. We even spotted a few crayfish in the canal and spring area. It's a very nice, well maintained park, on the smaller side, but great for appreciating a few minutes outdoors, feeding the ducks, having lunch, or relaxing with a good book.

Lititz Spring Park (LSP) is a private park owned by the Lititz Moravian Congregation for over 200 years. It is maintained by the Churches of Lititz and for public use. It's a small park with 7-acres but has a lovely small creek that runs through it. A couple of months ago I visited LSP for the first time during a beautiful autumn day. I enjoyed photographing the plethora of waterfowl in the creek. It's a nice spot to have a picnic with your family and check out the shops on Broad Street. But it's not really a hiking/walking type of park in my opinion. Amenities: *Welcome Center *Restrooms *Playground *Volleyball Court *Caboose *Picnic Tables/Pavilions *Grills *Gazebo *Refreshment Stand *Creek *Bicycles, Rollerblades, Scooters & Skateboards are prohibited *Smoke-free environment *Stage for entertainment Every winter, the Fire & Ice Festival takes place at LSP. I'm really looking forward to checking it out. The dates are February 17-20, 2017. This will be its 12th year! (http://www.lititzfireandicefestival.com/)

Here's a gorgeous, small and simple park. At center stage is the creek and if you walk upstream you will reach the spring. On any given day you will find ducks quacking away enjoying (at least I assume) the nice surroundings they are in. There are a few markers throughout the park to relate the great history of Lititz. My personal favourite is the one tracing back the origins of all the families that made this town a reality.

On our recent visit to Lititz, Pa we stopped at the Lititz springs Park, There is a visitors center with all sorts of information on area activities, discounts, coupons and free maps. There was a list of activities & events for the next few weeks. The center was staffed by an elderly gentleman who was very helpful and explained a lot of info & history to me. There also is a gazebo, which would be great for picnics, a Railroad car, and the springs themselves, which had a large amount of ducks nearby. It wasnt raining it would have been a much better visit.

During a road trip around Pennsylvania last year I made several stops in small towns. One of those stops was in Lititz for some local flavor, lunch and of course beer. I didn't have much time to wander around to all the shops and such but I did make time for the Lititz Springs Park. I took my time to walk the length of the park and take in the calm beauty just off the main road. It's a fantastic place to relax and just enjoy a warm sunny day. I walked by the Welcome Center (an old train station) and checked out the Caboose (inside you'll find some local railroading history) before wandering deeper into the park. There's a gazebo, pavilions, playgrounds and a band shell all within the park confines. There were no events the day I was there but concerts and community events are often held here. The park is also dog friendly. What struck me most, though, was the ducks who take up residence there. They looked so peaceful on the water or in the grass. Some sleeping in the shade, some basking in the sun. I was mesmerized watching them enjoying the glorious day. I've never wanted to be a duck so badly in all my life. Lititz Springs Park is easily accessible and highly recommended. If I lived in Lititz, I would be at the Springs Park on a regular basis.

This park is a little green jewel in the heart of Lititz. There is a walled stream that runs through it that is gorgeous, at the west end of which is a beautiful grotto of sorts where the springs bubble out into a small pond and then run through the park, emptying into another pond before traveling on through the town. When my daughter was small we preferred this park to all others because it has what many others lack: the shade from tall trees. There is a little wooden train for kids to play in as well as swings and sliding boards. In addition there are a couple of pavilions that can be rented out for events, or you can enjoy your lunch at a picnic table. There are a number of public events held here each year, most notably the 4th of July celebration which boasts that it is the oldest continually-held celebration in the nation.

The park during Fire and Ice Festival
    Justin W.

What a wonderful park! Located in the heart of Lititz much of the park consists of trails along side the creek with bridges. A game is along the creek. I was there for the Ice and Festival. Hundreds of ducks were around the creek. Obviously being February there was little activity in the back of the park which included a band shell and a picnic area as well as a trail to walk. Beside the park was a little Caboose from the 1942 that was open to the public. If open go inside it's cool. I hope to get back in the summer because I imagine it's a lively place.

    Feeding the ducks.
    Rand P.

What a great little park. Sit back, relax in the shade of a great tree and let the little ones feed the ducks. Throughout the year there are so many events in this park and too miss them is ashame. There is the Fire & Ice Festival, Lititz Art Festival, Lititz Craft Festival, Independence Day Celebration, and movies in the park to name just a few. Always worth stopping by.

The trail is a short loop to the falls. Great Falls this isn't, but it's significant enough to generate a nice spray. A rather upset-looking fish flopped down shallow water as I approached. Upstream of the falls was a challenge. Few fords were viable, perhaps owing to heavy rain, and signs suggesting the area was blocked off were ignored by expeditions looking for better crossings. I made it across the stream and back, but I did get a little wet. The scenery isn't worth a long drive on its own, but paired with the other local park sites, it makes for good viewing, and in particular this space with its parking limitations can't get too crowded.

Why? To me, the lake is big enough to give you some interesting things to see and explore, but not too big that you can't see it all in a few hours. There are two docks you can launch from - one on either side of Brubaker Valley Road. It was mid-morning on a weekday and there were seven or eight other kayaks out there (mostly people fishing) and a few small boats that were also fishing. Plenty of wildlife with a Bald Eagle, a deer, a few Blue Heron and fish constantly jumping out of the water. At the far west end of the lake, where it gets shallow and you come to where it gets fed by the Hammer Creek, you expect to see a lot of ducks, turtles, frogs and since you're at the side of the Speedwell Forge Wolf Sanctuary - you can hear some barking & howling and even catch a few glimpses through the trees of a few of the residents running around. Fwiw, I can imagine that on weekends, this place getting very crowded and while it does have some size to it, compared to some other county/state parks, it's not that big. But for a weekday, it was more than fine. Beautiful. Peaceful. What more could you want?

That was all I needed. Immediately added to the Sunday adventure list. I planned my visit for a mid-March Sunday, right after a hearty pre-St. Patrick's Day brunch (and cocktail), because if I was going to go chasing waterfalls, I might as well do it properly fueled and slightly festive. Getting there was super easy with Google Maps, and parking was plentiful all around the lake. Since it was my first visit, I parked near the clubhouse and set out to explore. Bathrooms were locked for the season, but there were portajohns available...which I respectfully chose to ignore and simply hoped for the best. It was about 50°, cloudy, and windy, but that didn't stop people from being out and about. There were families, walkers, and a surprisingly intense group of disc golfers launching discs through the air like they had something to prove. I heard multiple rounds of "HEAD'S UP!" and just accepted that at any moment I could become part of the game. Even with the number of people there, it never felt crowded. The park is big enough that you can easily find your own little peaceful corner and pretend you're out in nature alone...minus the occasional flying disc. This is definitely more of a walk than a hike, which honestly matched my post-brunch energy level perfectly. The paths are a mix of paved trails and well-worn walking routes, with plenty of options to wander depending on how far you feel like going. The lake itself was gorgeous in that moody, dramatic way that makes you feel like you're in a very calm, slightly emotional movie scene. There was someone fishing from a kayak, a few people along the shoreline, and just enough quiet to make it feel relaxing despite the wind. I came for the waterfall, though. And I heard it before I saw it. "I can hear water!" I announced (again, to no one in particular) as I followed the Waterfall Trail like I was on some sort of mission. And when I finally got there...totally worth it. The waterfall was beautiful. It might be partially man-made, but honestly, I do not care. It's water. It's falling. It's peaceful. It's a win! As I walked around, I kept thinking how perfect this place would be for a picnic once the weather warms up. There are so many great spots to throw down a blanket, snack, and pretend you're the kind of person who has their life together enough to plan outdoor picnics. Sweet Arrow Lake is easy to get to, easy to park, easy to walk, and very family-friendly. There's nothing wildly over-the-top here beyond the waterfall, but that's kind of the point. It's a solid, peaceful place to get outside, get some steps in, and enjoy a view that you don't come across every day in Central PA. And honestly? For a spontaneous "there's a waterfall 45 minutes away" adventure...I'd say that's a pretty great return on investment!

I also have to give props to the Reeves Park and Freedom playgrounds for being fenced in (Smith is, but it's so big, the fence is not as containing as it could be). Kids Dream is not fenced, unfortunately, because it is a layer of safety I always appreciate, for young kids who run, and also just to keep out wandering dogs (the ones on a long leash whose caretakers aren't paying attention) or to dissuade sketchy people from hanging around (sorry but they're everywhere). There is a nearby walking trail, and it's also adjacent to township offices (shared parking lot). I do have to comment that there was a bit of litter generally around, which is never okay for a kids' playground. Also, this playground is pretty crowded. Plenty of space at the parking lot which also boasts a Bike Share! It's a self-service bike rental for which you can pay online for 2 or 4 hours of use. If you cross the street, the trail is supposed to continue for another 3/4 miles. So in all you have about 7.5 miles of trail to work with in this domain. The trailhead is just behind the Bike Share. The surface is mostly smooth crusted stone until you reached the Ephrata Linear Park portion which is fully paved -- and lighted!  I am now really curious if I should come back and check it out at night one of these days.   The trail is mostly wooded, at least on one side. It passes through Amish farms - you can also tell by the aeromatic air as you pass through them? So many silos in sight along the way, you can even make it a point to count them! You will ride past the Gnome Village, Winters statue, and some interesting murals. There is also a bike park, not sure if it's free to ride through it, but there was a birthday party going on at the time and we got a treat watching young kids getting airborne. There's one "permanent" porta potty on the Ephrata side of the trail. The trail ends at the Main St in Ephrata. It's such a contrast coming out of the trail, as we suddenly immersed into "civilization"!  Seriously, our eyes literally lit up at the sight of downtown Ephrata which is surprisingly quaint, especially with the fall foliage still lingering.   It was such a delightful experience.
