What a fantastic experience! I've been wanting to visit this blueberry farm for a couple of years…read morenow. They were open this past Friday at 7:30 am. It was perfect timing for this early riser. Do check their posted seasonal u-pick schedule on their website or FB before making a special trip. Blueberry season typically starts in April and runs into May. The dates are posted weekly. It was easy to find and very close to Valrico. Especially if you're coming from Lithia Pinecrest Rd. There's a pathway that leads you to the parking lot once you get to Neal Rd. It's a short walk to the covered barn where you will receive your bucket. Just tie it tight around your waist so that it doesn't fall under the weight of the blueberries. The bucket holds up to 6 lbs. It's such a well organized process. The farm is huge. There were at least 10 families there, and I rarely saw them. There were so many beautifully ripe blueberries ready to be picked. The Jewel clusters of berries seem to fall right off when you touch them. Be sure to cup your hands underneath it. The Emerald variety is larger and tend to stay clustered together. I picked a mixture of both varieties. Before I knew it, the bucket was halfway filled. It was such a fun experience! So much so, that I'm hoping to do it again before the end of the season. It's such a happy place! The ladies who run it are so friendly & kind. They're even selling local honey from Sam's Honey Bees. Everything is so delicious! I also appreciated the shoe scraping & hand washing stations. Again, everything is so organized. It's a must if you're looking for great blueberries and/or a great family experience. Just do it. You'll be rewarded with fresh berries, and a peaceful retreat from urban life.

I went to their website and signed up for their newsletter, which was helpful because they sent out notice saying they would be open the upcoming weekend with hours of operation. I went early on Saturday morning, arriving about 9 am, and they were already busy. Fortunately, they have a huge field of blueberry plants: both Jewel and Emerald. They are also super organized which I love: someone directed me where to park and then I went to main building next to the field where I was handed a bucket with strings on it to tie around my waist in order to leave both hands free for picking. I picked a few pounds in no time, and checkout was fast and easy. They had short sleeve and long sleeve shirts for sale, but they were out of their baseball caps. So, even though this was a bit of a haul from Tampa, it was definitely worth the drive.

From all of the people in the front letting you taste the fresh fruit before you pick, to the gentleman who taught us what to pick and how, to each of the several people wishing us a safe drive home before the rain came through. There were plenty of oranges ripe for the picking and the groves are healthy and active! The honeybells are seriously the juiciest citrus I've ever had. The farm market has everything Florida you could ever need and we also brought home some orange tea cookies, monkey butter, chocolate gators, and some juicy fresh pomelos. PLEASE pay Dooley Groves a visit and bring your out of state friends- they will thank you! (Ps- they also ship their citrus!)

Thanks again ladies your hard work does not go unnoticed!!

We arrived around 2 PM, right after a brief 10-minute rain shower--which, by the way, wasn't even in the area of the farm. The weather was perfectly fine when we got there. Yet, to our shock, the place was closed with no updates anywhere--no Facebook post, no notice, nothing. Understandably frustrated, we noticed someone walking around and approached them. This person kindly told us we could pick a little bit, since there was no rain, and the berries were literally rotting on the plants because they were at their peak. So, we took a bucket and started picking, thinking we could salvage the day. And then--out of nowhere--this miserable, screaming woman came running at us like a lunatic. She was shouting at the top of her lungs, threatening to call the police, demanding that we stop picking immediately without even bothering to ask why we were there or who gave us permission. Instead of handling the situation like a reasonable adult, she was aggressive, rude, and completely unprofessional--the kind of person who makes you wonder how a business like this even survives. She ruined what could have been a great day, and frankly, she deserves to have the reputation of this farm completely destroyed. I hope the owners find someone competent and respectful to run the place because this was beyond unacceptable. I will be warning everyone I know to stay far away from this farm. Disgusting behavior.

I've been all about mangos since they are in season right now. I found Long View Family Farm on FB,…read more& messaged them to see if they had mango available today, & they sure did. I stopped by and Thuy was super helpful. She told me about the varieties of mango that she had. I let her know I wanted sweet juicy ones. She picked up a handful of mangos for me. She labeled them and she wrote down which ones I can eat in order of when they would be ready. She let me know mangos should be stored in room temperature until they are ripe. She grows the mango trees here as well as many other tropical fruits. She also sells coffee, drinks, and mango bread and muffins and other fruits that are available. She posts availability on Wednesdays and people can get the best pick then. She also meets people in Land O Lakes for orders which is nice and convenient for me. Glad I was able to check it out. It's a nice spacious barn with seating and there were baskets of mangos that are labeled and flower arrangements and other goodies that she had. Great service and excited for fresh local grown mangos!

Currently sugar apples, soursop, and chimoya are in season so we got some of each to try. Owner was so helpful and friendly. She explained everything, how to tell if ripe, etc. Outside they have trees you can purchase. We bought a mango tree and they did a great job explaining what was needed and helping to package and secure for the ride home. Do not miss out on the drinks and desserts. We got the mango ice cream. Homemade and so delicious. You could really taste the farm mango. Not your commercial ice cream. A great way to end our trip to the farm. They have 40 varieties of mangos and so many other tropical fruits. Cannot wait to go back and try more throughout the year.
