Long, long ago...I made a promise to my mom that I would eventually learn how to play the guitar. After receiving a gift certificate from my wife, I've started to make good on that promise. Robbie has been a great instructor, and through his guidance I've learned a few things about playing some tunes. Since starting my lessons, I've bought an acoustic guitar, and had another one repaired and cleaned up by Andrew. Now my old Kay sounds better and looks great. Paul runs the shop and knows how to make his customers feel right at home. Some of the bigger stores can be intimidating; that is not the case here. Come into Firehouse Music and get to know these guys. It's never to late to learn how to play!

They have a good selection of electric and acoustic guitars and other instruments as well. It's the best guitar center in the area because when you go in there the air conditioner is on. I personally like that they are open later than most local violin shops and have what we need. My son needed his violin to be serviced and since the other local violin shop that I initially bought it from closed early for some reason, we figured we had nothing to loose and stop by here. We were greeted by an employee and informed him that the violin needed to be restrung, and after a couple of minutes after playing on their beautiful piano, admiring the cool guitars and shaking the colorful maracas, we were informed that the violin was fixed, however it was only temporary since they were not able to provide the full service that we needed and suggested another local violin shop for that service. The best part, we were not charged! Like who does that nowadays!?? Mind you, they don't service instruments. I appreciated the associate's service very much, he did not have to be so kind and desperately help us out when my son needed his violin fixed by the next day. I have nothing but great things to say about Music and Arts, they truly have great quality employees and a wide variation of instruments and knowledgeable employees. I sent my son inside to purchase it and after 15 minutes of waiting I decided to go inside to see why he was taking so long to come out. The employee ignored him and was helping another adult client and chit chatting with another employee. They both looked at me and carried on their conversation without asking if I needed anything! My son approached him again and asked very politely if he was able to locate what we were looking for, the employee said "dude, chill! I told you we don't always have in stock what the website says..." Needless to say we walked out of there and I gave my money to another business.

Contacted the Willowbrook location 4 times, 2 phone calls and 2 online inquiries for guitar lessons…read moreand still no call back. The first time was over 12 days ago. I guess they aren't accepting new students. They could at least tell me that. I've bought 1 guitar and have had 2 set up there. Not to mention gear. No longer my go-to guitar shop.

He allowed my son all the time he needed to make an informed decision so we could buy the sax that is just right for him. Elvis came and went with different saxes offering us water as well. It was such a fun and relaxing event. My son was in awe of all the beautiful instruments--from vintage Selmers to average Yamahas and an out-of-this-world Yani! This review is ONLY for renting instruments and a few minor repairs. I have NOT bought an…read moreinstrument from Fishburn, therefore, I cannot comment on the process, price, or value-for-money of an instrument. MOST IMPORTANT: The employees are EXCEPTIONAL! They are knowledgeable, and if they don't know, they will find out for you. I have always had great service from them (even though I can be snippy at times). Please be patient with them if you want them to be patient with you. I have rented 3 instruments (1 violin and 2 cellos) from Fishburn. I rented a 1/8 violin from Fishburn 3+ years ago for my son. I highly recommending instruments for growing children or for adults that are just "trying" out an instrument. Fishburn has a great rent-to-own program where you pay a monthly price and this money counts towards you owning an instrument once the price of the instrument is paid out. I love this program. Here are some of my experiences with renting. Renting: Fishburn has different tiers of rental (the higher the quality of instrument, the more money you pay for rental). When I first rented the 1/8 violin, I though, "hey, my kid is just beginning, he doesn't need an expensive rental". I was wrong. All great musicians start out as a beginner, beginners matter. Rent the best that you can afford. A higher quality instrument will be easier to play, better on the ears when practicing (doesn't sound like someone is torturing a cat), and make your kid feel better about him/herself, therefore, making that kid want to practice more. I wish the people at Fishburn would have informed me about this aspect of renting, I would have rented the higher quality instrument first instead of renting el cheapo, then having to come back and trade-up. That being said, the higher priced rental instrument is worth it. I know that they probably source their instruments overseas. I just want to say, the cheap 1/8 violin is REALLY bad. We are now at the 3/4 size, higher quality instrument, and it sounds so amazing. I know Fishburn didn't make the 1/8 violin-shaped-atrocity, but maybe consider sourcing from a better place? With all this being said, yes, PLEASE consider renting from them! Their rental prices are very fair. During renting, they also will clean, repair, and replace strings, bows, etc. for you free of charge. Once we paid out the price of the violin, we own it and no longer have to pay the monthly rental charge. This was automatic and I didn't have to go in and remind them. This was very nice. When my kid out-grew his violin, I just took it in and they swapped it for a larger one, no additional cost! I'm sure if you wanted/needed a higher quality violin, you would have to pay for the difference. This is understandable. Once you own the violin though, YOU are responsible for paying for repairs and services. Repairs and services: I had to re-hair a 3/4 bow. The re-hair price is almost the cost of a new bow. I decided to re-hair instead of buying a new one because my kid will grow and what am I going to do with a 3/4 violin bow? If you have a full-sized bow, maybe having two bows would be useful. The luthier did call me and we spoke about the re-hair vs buying another one. I greatly appreciate her time and her concern. In the end, we re-haired and she did an awesome job. I have also brought my cello in to reshape the bridge, and change the strings. All repairs were done in a timely manner and they are good at keeping you abreast of timelines to manage your expectations. They are good at exceeding timelines, but things happen sometimes. We have all been there. Side note: When I first rented a 1/8 cello for my daughter, this had to be special-ordered. There was a mix-up somewhere and the cello did not come on time. Mr. Fishburn called me himself to apologize. In the end, we had a pleasant conversation. It's a 1/8 cello, there are a million other things that are more important. Final verdicts: Rent from Fishburn: Yes! Or at least, give them a chance and try it out. Repair at Fishburn: I have only done minor repairs so YES! For large repairs like big cracks in instruments, I do not have experience so I cannot comment.

Yes, I was competitive and practised all day long to impress my teachers. Yes. My playing lasted all the way until me university years. Until one day my key pads on me flute was sticky and it was so difficult to play me flute. So someone had suggested Best Band Repair and complimented on how much of a good job they do. So in the Spring semester of March 2015, I had brought me flute to get repaired and get my sticky pads replaced on me keys. Dropped it off to a man named Steve whom was kind, gentle, and so willingly able to fix me flute so that I could play it beautifully. I received a call that it was fix. Time went on, and I graduated university. My life carried on. Received a full time job. And my poor ole flute was sitting in their shop. Collecting dust. But well taken care of and looked after. Not until 2 years later, I moved and realised I was missing something extremely expensive from me home. I frantically called the shop and lo and behold, it was still there! Took a half day off work, took a carriage 30 miles from me home and there she was. Me flute all protected by the Best Band Repair protectors of band horns. By george! As they are a wee small shop, no credit card machines exist. Cash only. His wife wondered who's horn it was and wondered why all these years it was left behind. Kind people. Amazing work. Didn't sell my flute. Waiting for it's owner to return. Amen. And it still plays well.

If you want your instrument to be serviced well and professionally, this is your go to place. He knows instruments, just looking at it, he'll give you the full history, brand, year.... He's giving me some wonderful advise as I've been trying real hard to find a good used bass clarinet for my son, this is not a cheap instrument but he knows them so well. Don't hesitate to go see him with your used instrument, he will be honest with you, he won't lie to you just to get your business. He's very busy so it does take him a little longer to service your instrument and he may be a little pricier than some other places, but it's justified and worth it.
