My '86 Kramer Baretta that I've had since high school (and is still my main guitar) accidentally…read moregot knocked off its stand. It fell face first, and a few of the upper frets under the high 'E' got damaged when the strings got pushed right into the fret wire. I was super nervous having any fret work done, as once material is removed, there's no going back. My big fear was that too much material would need to be removed, altering the playability, and then I would eventually need to to have a full fret replacement done. I talked to the owner Dave and explained what had happened. Super nice guy, and very interesting to chat with. He's been building and repairing guitars his whole life, and knew exactly what had happened as he'd seen this issue before. When I got the guitar back, not only were the damaged frets repaired, but some slight buzzing from another fret (that affected 2 strings) was corrected, and the overall playability was improved. Easier bends, smoother vibrato. Most important to me, the frets were only reworked in the upper register where it was needed (12th -14th frets and up). The price was very reasonable as well. I would DEFINITELY recommend Texas Guitar Hospital for any repair work. Interesting fact: the location is actually the Robin guitar factory. To say it's a full service shop is an understatement! What I found was a fully operational custom guitar and pickup making facility. Met the owner, Dave, at the front desk. Super nice guy. Took me on a tour of their operations. Wow is an understatement. On top of that, lightning quick turnaround and the best rates in town. Rio Grande pickups are the brand of their custom p/u. I wound up having the bridge p/u replaced with their RailGunner custom one. It absolutely transformed the weak sound from the bridge to a monstrous tone dripping with attitude. Highly recommend.
