Inside there are cool exhibits, lots of info about the people who had been settled there and stuff about how being covered in bog preserved so much so well. It's really a neat bit of history. There's an observatory you can climb to at the top of the building that have amazing views looking out over the cliffs to the ocean. Then, outside you can walk about the grounds and look at the remains of houses from thousands of years ago and then go check out the edge of the cliffs. You can get pretty close and it's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in person ever. I loved every second of it. It might not be the cliffs of Mohr, but that just means it's not as crowded or touristy. We nearly had the place to ourselves.

And while touring a long the north Mayo coast there was one for a Neolithic Site called Céide Fields. Intrigued we stopped in for a look. In front of you stands an impressive pyramid styled building. Behind you stands some rugged coastline. All around you bog heathland with shades of gold, brown, greens and purples. And with the strong wind that was blowing, it moved like a sea. A stunning site to see. 4 EUR in got you access to the exhibition, facilities, cafe and of course the site itself. There were guided tours included too if you wanted to really learn all you can about the site. We decided to wander around the site on our own. It's really fascinating the amount they archaeologist were able to glean and learn from all they discovered there. If I'm I am honest I was a little underwhelmed by the actual Neolithic site itself, but if you are into Neolithic sites it's probably the dogs. The highlight for me was the viewing point opposite the car park. Stunning views of the coastline and cliffs. This is were we spotted the sea stack of Downpatrick Head in the distance. A must if you are passing by, especially the views.

You feel as if Rob Stark is going to appear at any moment. The waterfalls are so magical. The viewpoints are breathtaking. This place is New Zealand-esque. They are all individually noted as areas of both natural beauty and of scientific interest. In the Glenariff area alone you can encounter valleys, sandy beaches, cliffs, boglands, wooded glens, forests, waterfalls and a picturesque village. You can take some great walks through the forest, past the rivers and flowing waterfalls. Look out for the hugely impressive 'Mare's Tail' waterfall which drops hundreds of feet. It's beside the main road near Kilmore. If you fancy a forest walk somewhere a little different then head here to the forest park. You won't regret it. Situated at the park is the absolutely beautiful 'Waterfall Walkway' which is about 3 miles long and is a great spot which features panoramic landscapes and peaceful riverside walks. The attraction also includes disabled access, a visitor centre, an exhibition area, interactive display, shop, caravan/camping site (open Easter - October) and a seasonal restaurant which complements this "gateway to the Glens".

Naturally, there are the gifts and souvenirs available in a typical tourist information centre, and helpful, friendly advice from those in the know. "So, what's different?!" I hear you cry. Yes, yes, I was getting to that bit. A stunning array of locally produced arts and crafts are available for purchase - jewellery, glassware, china, pottery and the like. And when I say local, I mean local. Like twenty minutes down the road local. Beautiful, beautiful stuff. Not only this, but the centre collaborates with the creators and innovators behind these delightful goods, holding displays and classes for the general public to watch and participate. One such event is "Meet the Maker", which exhibits the likes of Karl Harron (a glass artist), Mike Miall (a woodturner) and Jan Campbell (a textile artist). Fascinating. Furthermore, he art centre is well equipped, with studios, galleries and meeting rooms all for use for this sort of event. Ha, bet you weren't expecting that! The name did kinda give it away mind you...

I'd never even been into the tourist information center until earlier today and without sounding like a maniac - I was blown away. Yeah! yeah! like all your bog-standard tourist information places they sell tea towels covered in maps of Ireland, attractions, sheep and Guinness. This is not however the cream on the Newtownard's Tourist Information cake. Go in deeper into the back of the shop to discover the wonder that is the arts and crafts section. Local artists from all over the peninsula create and display items in the display area. There are amazing ceramics, paintings, jewelry and sculpture. I couldn't believe it - all this has been under my nose all along. Seriously, I was blown away by all the free brochures about the area, the play area and the friendly, helpful staff. If you need to know anything at all about places to stay or eat anywhere in Northern Ireland then call in here.
