This was the best decision of our cruise. Jose' led us on a tour of the real Lisbon. A former school teacher the tour involved culture, history and great food recommendations. It truly was the highlight of our vacation. If you want to actually see the city, learn its history and experience a little of its actual culture, book this tour. If you have a larger group (ours was 8) you can book a private tour by pre-paying a tip and have the incredible experience we had. Jose' will customize the tour to your interests and physical ability. Be aware Lisbon is very hilly. Our tour involved climbing both of the major hills in the city. Our guide was the head honcho of this operation, and gave us a true "locals" insight on the lay of the land. Unlike some tours, each Chill Out Lisbon is different, as they prioritize catering to each specific audience. Before you step out on your FREE tour, they'll ask questions to see what you really want to see and learn about the city. How awesome is that. We saw several of the main landmarks, but even more of the "roots" of Lisbon. My favorite parts being the Alfama district, and the grand finale. My tour guide today is Rita, and my group has 15 people. Rita made sure she took care of everyone. We went from downtown area to Alfama. The tour even include one free custard tart! And like every other free walking tour, you decide how much it worths to tip the your tour guide with no pressure. Before we departed he bought us espressos that we drank together at the counter like locals. We visited two beautiful vineyards/wineries with tastings of a nice variety of red and white (and one "green"!) wines. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. We also stopped into Óbidos for a little stroll and lunch. He bought us some traditional chorizo bread on a little whim. Lunch had a nice atmosphere and good service, but the prices were drastically higher than other places we ate on our trip, and the food was a bit plain. This was only a small blemish on an otherwise outstanding day. We would gladly rebook something with Armando on a return visit!
