I wish I had read more reviews before starting therapy here. It's been a while since I was a…read morepatient, but a number of red flags still stand out. For my very first session, I was mistakenly sent a video link to another person's appointment -- a clear HIPAA violation. Throughout my time there, I saw multiple therapists who often showed up late, seemed distracted, or even dozed off during sessions. I was pressured to try therapy formats I had already said I wasn't comfortable with, like group therapy, and when I declined, I was treated like I was being difficult. I also felt strongly pressured to go on medication, and when I expressed that I didn't feel it was the right path for me, I was met with resistance and made to feel like a problem rather than a person. Instead of feeling supported, I felt gaslighted, invalidated, and eventually bullied out of continuing care. I had gone in hoping for professional help, but I left feeling worse and more discouraged than before.

I am editing my original review because I received a cease-and-desist letter from gavia's attorneys…read moreand I don't want to take any chances with my own career. But I stand by what I said in the earlier reviews and I will simply say now: as you would when considering working with any therapist, make sure they are happy where they work. Many will never be honest about this as they need an income. So you'll have to trust your instincts. But do trust your instincts in choosing a clinic and a therapist. I will also say that I find it rather telling that instead of taking me up on my attempts to collaborate, the owners and other clinicians of gavia chose to stonewall me and are now threatening me with legal action instead of taking a long hard look in the mirror. Bullying behavior. They don't want me telling my story because it makes them look bad... but they somehow rationalize threats?! Fascinating logic. Spending time and resources to threaten an ex-employee who so clearly ONLY ever had the intention of protecting clients is very revealing. I have news for you gavia, not everyone is going to like you and we have this thing called, the first amendment. As far as I know, in order to have a case against me, they would have to prove intended or unintended harm. The only people who have been harmed are me and the clients that gavia abandoned when they fired me. Retraumatizing! I have consistently tried to invite collaborative efforts to no avail. Legal threats and stonewalling will not produce results that help everyone involved... it is more of a financial interest as the cease and desist makes clear. Read the tealeaves. Before you choose to pursue therapy at gavia, do your homework.

First off I think any and all therapy can be good if you are willing to work on whatever you are…read morethere for. I found Discoveries counseling because she specializes in an area I'm looking to get help with. 1st impressions, this is an old house that looks like a country cabin that has been converted into several offices. WAY COOL. You walk in, there's a kitchen with tea and coffee for everyone (yes patients to) and then the waiting room. The waiting room is like something out of a rustic retreat. Fireplace, log cabin decor, a 5 foot tall moose carved out of wood and a window looking over a country garden. Talk about relaxing. In the winter the fire place is often on and there's something about a fire place in a room like this that makes me think warm thoughts and fuzzy bunnies bouncing in the snow. Peggy, eh...hemm... Dr Peggy Derivan is great. "We" call her Peggy as that's what I'm comfortable with.. When you stop to think about it she doesn't look like a Peggy but that didn't occur to me until sitting down to write this review. I've seen a number of therapists (yeah I'm totally wacko) and many of them are like stiff boards and give the impression that you should be strapped to a metal table and poked and prodded. Not Peggy. She's like the cool aunt that has your favorite ice cream on hand when your bff and you have a fight. I meet ppl for a living and Peggy has a presence that puts you at ease and a smile that is as genuine as they come. Her office is one of many practices in this place and while walking there, the house is so cozy and log cabin like, it's very relaxing. On your 1st meeting she tells you a bit about her and why she does what she does. Her office is small but comfortable and has a nice scent to it (you have no idea how much scent effects your life) Without getting into why I'm here I will say she's very knowledgeable and has been super helpful. I see her solo and with my wife when we need it. Like I said, she's like the cool aunt (not the one who talks to her flowers, the other one). A great therapist will tell you, that you have to be comfortable with them or it won't work. Peggy pus me at ease and is the best therapist I've ever seen (I've seen 5). Give her a try, if you liked this review you won't be disappointed, .

Really nice place. But the group mainly was bi-polar individuals. She didn't feel welcome after a while and realized that this wasn't the group for her. There was hardly anyone who felt like she did. Plus others monopolized the conversation too much and we left because of that. The group leader really needs to step up and make sure everyone gets a chance to speak and be heard. She wished that the persons in the group were more like her and gave her a chance to talk. They should really be calling this particular group, Peer Led Bi-Polar group and start one for people like her (depression group). The other activities were great though. The art room, were a lot of people are doing their own artwork with the supplies they have there. My friend liked it, but wished she could engage with others a bit more. The guitar class was very cool. If you want and get permission you can show your art in their gallery if you are into that! The parking isn't great here, as it gets very busy, (It's at Village Gate). You could end up having to park all the way in the back. The people are very nice here. Honestly she wishes that the person who is the group leader in these peer led self help groups, I mentioned above....where led by a volunteer therapist/councelor. That is what this group and others like it really needs. There are also other cool things to do like meditation and lots of other cool stuff!

I went there to visit the art studio and some of the groups. After the tour, I got to know one of…read morethe staff members, and there was a bedbug crawling up his arm. This happened a few weeks ago. No one seemed to really care....I wanted to talk to an upper sort of person about it. They should have closed that place down immediately and set up to call exterminator. This is a health risk to other people. That is an expense no one going there needs to bring home because of lack of responsibility. Unfortunately, that shows poor character as far as I am concerned. Perhaps I was not meant to go there, some sign I guess, from a bed bug. The staff member had to have me tell them- YOU SHOULD SAY SOMETHING...person was like um. yea...I guess so. My goodness gracious! People working there looked at me like I was nuts. People are bringing bed bugs there...and it's too expensive for them to treat, perhaps I don't know. Go at your own risk, not me ....I have experienced having those critters, and it's expensive, and to prepare to be treated is just awful. Irresponsible is all I have to say and lol I ran to the bathroom, shook off my clothes, and went. home to bathroom to put clothes in a garbage, washed clothes and sneakers in hot water, and dried on high. So, go at your own risk
