My therapist at the time seemed…read moregenuine with their level of care, and their type of questioning was actually very helpful as it had been followed up with planning and a very direct path on how I could help myself. I did learn a lot and I am grateful for that period of time. The Bad: I had been referred to different types of group therapy. While I was hesitant, I still went, because I'm there to help myself. What I found in group therapy was a complete mess. It was very quickly apparent that the loudest person in the room would hold the floor for the whole session. This is so incredibly frustrating when you just feel like you're in a session to have someone say the same things every week, have the same problems every week, and have them hold the floor every week. It was beyond disappointing. I backed away from group therapy but still maintained my standard therapy sessions. My father got incredibly ill, very quickly, during this time. I had to travel a lot and ended up cancelling appointments due to the fact I was out of state helping my mother cope with my father dying. I got a call during this time that my therapist was no longer with the practice. That's fine. I still needed help and I'm not shy to having a new therapist, especially with the trauma of my father dying. What happened at that point, is I got a lot of automated phone calls and texts. I responded to all of them. I got a single call back at some point letting me know that they had found a therapist that could work with challenges. Then a couple days before my scheduled appointment, I got a voicemail saying that the therapist couldn't take me on. Then it went back to the automated phone calls and texts, with no way to actually reach someone. This went on for months until I received a letter in the mail stating that they were terminating me for non response. Completely baffling and beyond frustrating. Here I am, burying my father, responding to these automated things, and I get a letter saying I never reached back out. Heartbreaking. To sum it up, my therapist when things were good was actually great. Now reading other reviews, it's pretty clear that Gavia in general has a very difficult time with HIPPA violations and the general nonchalant environment when people need help. And reading some of the stories, I've definitely had other people walk into a session. However, I was lucky enough that the session would essentially pause and nothing was discussed in front of me, at least. But looking back, I wouldn't do it again. The therapist was good, but it's outweighed by layers of bad. I would honestly be careful if you care about your mental health: I'm not sure anyone reaches out repeatedly when they are stuck in limbo from the office, just to have a letter reach their house saying they never did.

For my very first session, I was mistakenly sent a video link to another person's appointment -- a clear HIPAA violation. Throughout my time there, I saw multiple therapists who often showed up late, seemed distracted, or even dozed off during sessions. I was pressured to try therapy formats I had already said I wasn't comfortable with, like group therapy, and when I declined, I was treated like I was being difficult. I also felt strongly pressured to go on medication, and when I expressed that I didn't feel it was the right path for me, I was met with resistance and made to feel like a problem rather than a person. Instead of feeling supported, I felt gaslighted, invalidated, and eventually bullied out of continuing care. I had gone in hoping for professional help, but I left feeling worse and more discouraged than before.

I see her once a month to build mindful practices into my daily life, debrief big stressors and integrate wellness responses. Laura has been so accommodating to meet me where I may be in the session-- I certainly always feel renewed and motivated to integrate content from the session into my daily life. I found Discoveries counseling because she specializes in an area I'm looking to get help with. 1st impressions, this is an old house that looks like a country cabin that has been converted into several offices. WAY COOL. You walk in, there's a kitchen with tea and coffee for everyone (yes patients to) and then the waiting room. The waiting room is like something out of a rustic retreat. Fireplace, log cabin decor, a 5 foot tall moose carved out of wood and a window looking over a country garden. Talk about relaxing. In the winter the fire place is often on and there's something about a fire place in a room like this that makes me think warm thoughts and fuzzy bunnies bouncing in the snow. Peggy, eh...hemm... Dr Peggy Derivan is great. "We" call her Peggy as that's what I'm comfortable with.. When you stop to think about it she doesn't look like a Peggy but that didn't occur to me until sitting down to write this review. I've seen a number of therapists (yeah I'm totally wacko) and many of them are like stiff boards and give the impression that you should be strapped to a metal table and poked and prodded. Not Peggy. She's like the cool aunt that has your favorite ice cream on hand when your bff and you have a fight. I meet ppl for a living and Peggy has a presence that puts you at ease and a smile that is as genuine as they come. Her office is one of many practices in this place and while walking there, the house is so cozy and log cabin like, it's very relaxing. On your 1st meeting she tells you a bit about her and why she does what she does. Her office is small but comfortable and has a nice scent to it (you have no idea how much scent effects your life) Without getting into why I'm here I will say she's very knowledgeable and has been super helpful. I see her solo and with my wife when we need it. Like I said, she's like the cool aunt (not the one who talks to her flowers, the other one). A great therapist will tell you, that you have to be comfortable with them or it won't work. Peggy pus me at ease and is the best therapist I've ever seen (I've seen 5). They should have closed that place down immediately and set up to call exterminator. This is a health risk to other people. That is an expense no one going there needs to bring home because of lack of responsibility. Unfortunately, that shows poor character as far as I am concerned. Perhaps I was not meant to go there, some sign I guess, from a bed bug. The staff member had to have me tell them- YOU SHOULD SAY SOMETHING...person was like um. yea...I guess so. My goodness gracious! People working there looked at me like I was nuts. People are bringing bed bugs there...and it's too expensive for them to treat, perhaps I don't know. Go at your own risk, not me ....I have experienced having those critters, and it's expensive, and to prepare to be treated is just awful. Irresponsible is all I have to say and lol I ran to the bathroom, shook off my clothes, and went. home to bathroom to put clothes in a garbage, washed clothes and sneakers in hot water, and dried on high. I recently experienced some life events that left me homeless for a short time. I reached out here…read moreseveral times knowing they are supposed to offer help with these situations. The first time, I left a voice mail and never heard back. The next day I came in person and told the front desk worker what I needed help with. Nothing. The third time, about a week later, one of their peer specialists begrudgingly went on Google while I was there asking for help again. The other client/guest there at the time wound up being a lot more helpful. All this aside my general experience here has been that the employees don't care about helping people (ie. doing their job). They put up a vaguely friendly facade but if you actually persist in trying to get help from the services they claim to offer, they just kind of fade away. So I don't recommend it, certainly as a first recourse if you need help.
