It's been five years since I first came here, and I'm still frustrated with the practice. I absolutely *love* Dr. Trivedi, who also works at this office, and I've asked to become his patient twice over the past five years. I had the chance to see Dr. Trivedi once when Dr. H was unavailable, and I was so impressed by his bedside manner that I requested to switch to him as my gastroenterologist. However, my request was denied after Dr. H's input citing that patients can't switch doctors within the practice. Their secretary staff are at least quick to comply with sending over medical records to my new gastroenterologist or other doctor's that may need my medical summary history performed by Dr. H. If you have the option, I highly recommend seeing Dr. Trivedi. My mother sees him, and two other doctors I know absolutely adore him as well. It's just unfortunate that I'm not allowed to be one of his patients! read more

I've been going to Dr. Hertz for years and she is awesome. Today I saw her PA Katherine Dodds and she is amazing as well. She gave me all the time to go over questions and details of my care. I am due to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. I am 70 years old and have quite a few of these in the past 20 years as my father died of colon cancer. When I moved to CA I needed to find a new MD and Dr Hertz was chosen. She was absolutely great! The prep was sooooo easy compared to all the others I have had to go through. I came to see Dr Hertz for some troubling symptoms I was having. After an examination she recommended an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I was hesitant to go through with the procedures because I'd never been sedated before and had some strong fears about the whole thing. Dr. Hertz assured me it wasn't a big deal and I'd be in good hands. After some thought I decided to trust her and go through with the procedures. On the day of the procedure we got started 30 minutes late, which didn't help the fact that I was already feeling irritated and fearful. When Dr. Hertz did finally show up she didn't apologize, rather she made a comment about how they were "only" running 30 minutes late, and that's not bad. I found this incredibly callous of her to say since I was sitting there an extra 30 minutes hungry and scared. After the procedure I woke up and immediately began to complain that my throat was hurting. They assured me that this was normal and should go away within 24 hours. I went home and went to sleep. When I woke up I felt a pain in my throat like I've never felt before. Swallowing, talking, and even breathing was agony. When I looked in the mirror at my throat I was shocked to see that my uvula had turned a deep purple/black color and the whole back of my throat was red and irritated (see pic). I immediately knew something was wrong so I called Dr. Hertz's office. It was after hours so I left a message explaining what was happening and asking for the on call doctor to call me back. IT TOOK 2 HOURS TO RECEIVE A CALL BACK. When my phone finally did ring my wife answered and explained the situation to the doctor (not Dr. Hertz). He offered no help and instead said he would have Dr. Hertz call us ASAP. 15 minutes later Dr. Hertz called back and my wife answered. Again my wife explained the situation calmly and clearly, but Dr. Hertz immediately got defensive. She asked to speak directly to me, not my wife,and basically said that what was happening was no big deal and will go away by the next day. She said if I was feeling discomfort I should buy some Vick's chloraseptic, or if I'm really worried I can go to the emergency room. I couldn't believe how she wasn't taking my concerns or injury seriously. It was very clear to me that this was more than routine discomfort and there was no way I'd be feeling better any time soon. I got the feeling she was annoyed that I was interrupting her Friday evening. At this point I got emotional and told her "thanks for nothing" and hung up the phone. Keep in mind i'd been given some strong drugs just hours earlier and still was not in my right mind emotionally. A few minutes after I hung up the phone I received a text from Dr. Hertz. This text was meant to be sent to her partner, but she made a mistake and texted me instead. In the text she called my wife and I assholes, saying that we were yelling and screaming at her (see pic). My wife NEVER raised her voice to Dr. Hertz, and although I may have been a bit harsh by hanging up, I would've hoped she could understand that I was scared and still not quite myself. I found this whole exchange extremely unprofessional. If Dr. Hertz can't even use her cell phone correctly it's no wonder she maimed me during the procedure. That night was pure agony, and at 3am I decided I needed to go to urgent care. When the doctor there saw me he was shocked that Dr. Hertz didn't offer me any antibiotics as a precaution for infection, steroids to help healing, or pain meds to help with discomfort. He prescribed all 3 and sent me home, saying it could take up to two weeks to heal. The next day Dr. Hertz texted me (not even the courtesy of a phone call) to see how I was feeling. When I told her about my urgent care visit she again became defensive. She told me the doctor I saw was wrong to give me those prescriptions since it's just a simple bruise. At this point I told her I would rather trust the doctor from urgent care and I would no longer be seeking any treatment from her moving forward. After doing some research on my own and speaking to a friend of mine who is an ER doctor I've come to the conclusion that I am suffering from uvular necrosis. This is a fairly common complication from an endoscopy and usually caused from compression of the uvula against the pharynx or hard palate that results in impaired blood flow and eventually necrosis. DR.HERTZ SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS AND WARN HER PATIENTS THIS IS A POSSIBILITY. DR. HERTZ SHOULD KNOW HOW TO TREAT THIS WHEN A PATIENT PRESENTS THE SYMPTOMS. Needless to say I do not recommend Dr. Hertz for even the most simple of procedures. read more

I am so shocked to see negative reviews about Dr. Hertz! I have been a patient of hers for several years. I can't begin to explain how grateful I am to have her as my GI Doc. I have had a couple procedures with Dr.Hertz. All went extremely well! She is very professional, very caring, very knowledgeable, and amazing bedside manners! She has treated me for various reason and has always been very accommodating to me when I need to get in urgently. I am extremely grateful for her because without her I probably wouldn't have had a wedding when I did. I fell very ill to the point I could not eat or go about my normal routine. I was so sick I had lost a lot of weight and was always in extreme pain. This was a month before my wedding. Dr. Hertz went above and beyond! She got me in, spent so much time with me both in office, and out of office hours. She made sure I was taken care of. She recommended a colonoscopy and endoscopy the week of my wedding. I was very worried about having a colo since this was my first one and honestly just didn't want to have one. Dr. Hertz assured me and was very patient with me. The Day of procedure came, and everything went extremely well. She prescribed me medication and because of that procedure, she removed a big precancerous adenoma! Who would've thought! When I say she cares, I mean she truly cares! Day of my wedding came. I felt a little better being on meds but still a little discomfort. She spoke to my fiancé early that day before our ceremony and he told her how I was feeling. Kid you not, Dr.Hertz called in a prescription to the pharmacy and picked it up her self and brought it to me!! Thanks to that I was able to eat and enjoy my wedding and honeymoon. I am so grateful to have her as my doctor. I would recommend Dr.Hertz in a heartbeat. If I could give her more than 5 stars I would!! read more

Dr. Hertz is an amazing GI doctor who is super thorough and also extremely patient. She helped figure out what was causing my stomach discomfort and created a treatment strategy that worked. She also always followed up to make sure that I was doing ok. I also had my first colonoscopy with Dr. Hertz and she put me at ease. The staff in the center helped explain the steps in the procedure and I felt well taken care of from the time I arrived until I left (and they called the following day to check on me). Overall I am very upset with this GI office. Anytime I had an appointment I would wait in the office 30 minutes before getting called in, where I would wait another 30 minutes in a room for the doctor to show up, they should have just scheduled my appointment an hour later instead of wasting my time. That was only a minor problem however. I was originally being treated by Dr. Trivedi who unfortunately went on vacation the day before an emergency colonoscopy was scheduled for me so Dr. Hertz had to take over my case. She performed my colonoscopy where she diagnosed me as a mild to moderate case of UC. She then prescribed me medications and as my symptoms continued to get exponentially worse she told me that I was not giving it enough time and that I needed to wait for the medication to start working. (Which yes, UC medications do take a while to "kick in" but the fact that I was getting worse and not even beginning to stabilize should have been a huge red flag for her). I went to the office for several follow-ups within 2 weeks where by this time I had lost over 10 pounds, I am less than a 100lbs for my base weight, therefore my body cannot afford to lose 10 pounds. She is not a good doctor and completely ignored my case and my symptoms showing no care for me as her patient. She even asked me at one point if I thought I should go to the hospital...isn't that her job to tell patients if they need to be hospitalized? After 2 weeks of my symptoms continuing to get worse the partner in her practice returned from vacation. He reviewed my file and without even seeing me first, called me after office hours to instruct me to immediately go to the hospital as soon as I got off the phone as I was at risk for losing my colon with such severe symptoms. This was from a doctor who didn't perform my colonoscopy and wasn't even treating me for those 2 weeks, he simply read my file and told me to go to the hospital whereas Dr. Hertz just told me I needed to wait it out because I wasn't being patient enough. I was hospitalized for 6 days due to Dr. Hertz's improper diagnosis and complete ignorance of my symptoms and no care for me as a person at all. Two doctors after her have performed colonoscopies on me (the first being 3 months after she performed my first one as my colon needed to heal from the damage she did by not treating it) diagnosing me as severe, while she said I was mild-moderate. That's a huge discrepancy with this disease, showing she does not know what she is looking for. Going to her was the worst mistake of my life, I almost had to have an organ taken out because of her but thankfully found better doctors after her to save it. Do not go to this office if you value your health. If you see Dr. Trivedi he is very nice, the problem is if he is gone on vacation and you get ill, you get stuck Dr. Hertz treating you. read more

I'm a woman so wanted a woman gastro as a colonoscopy is way too personal to be letting some quack touch my colon. Luckily I was referred to Dr. Hertz. She's got good bedside manner and she's professional. The procedure at LB Memorial out-patient surgical suites near LB Airport is a new facility, is easy to get to and the nurses are awesome. I got my printed report shortly after the procedure and she explained the results to me. Her prep instructions were good and I mixed the gross stuff with Propel flavored water so made it way more palatable and drank clear Chicken broth which helped stave off hunger. I consider myself an expert! Due to some colon issues and a tendency to have polyps I "get to" have a colonoscopy annually. This has been going on for ten years and as much as I hate the prep and starving the day before, she makes it as pleasant as possible. I really like her as a person which is important. She has said that my colon wants to have cancer but she's not going to let it! Highly recommend her, in fact I referred a friend who continues to see her as well. Really like their new office and also the location where they actually do the test. p.s. the medication they give you before the procedure makes it all worthwhile. Be careful of this doctor. A member of my family had to have a colonoscopy and she charged $300 for a consult (in which we did not meet the doctor and just filled out forms). She over charges and she charges things ala carte to increase her profit. We will be looking for a different doctor for any follow up that's required. read more

My brother has been a patient of Dr. Hertz since 2000.She treated him from time of diagnosis through a botched medical procedure. he spent a month back and forth to her office and hospital to figure out what happened. She did not perform the procedure but worked diligently to figure out what happened. Finally she, on a hunch, had my brother see the top interventional radiologist who saw the issue and fixed it. Dr. Hertz was relentless in her quest to get this problem solved. She called me at home to update me and when I was with my brother at the hospital, she would come after office hours, every day. She kept him going and never gave up on his care. She not only cared for my brother but for our family. Kind, firm, honest and open to any thoughts is Dr. Hertz. She asks her patients how they feel. I have recently had a series of health problems including a bad case of gastritis and indigestion. Though I was told she was booked for the month, they called me back and said she would come in and see me early a.m. Turns out it was her day off and she came in to see a few patients in distress. I was so impressed. She was so kind and thorough. She had my previous history on her laptop and took the time, 20 minutes, to enter all my concerns. Referred me for sonogram, did complete work up. They treated my 90 year old mother with respect and kindness (unlike OTHER GI docs in the area!). Her speedy attention to my rapidly declining mother's condition may have saved her life. She saw her within days of my call without her even being a current patient! (We couldn't get her GI Doc in Long Beach to even return a call and couldn't get an appointment with him for months even though she had been under his care for years! I want to start out by saying Dr. Hertz is an amazing doctor. She saved my mother's life. My mother had a colonoscopy July 29th. Dr. Hertz took her time during the procedure. She noticed a bumpy area where the appendix connects with the colon, it just didn't look right. She took biopsies, and it turned out to be Pre-cancerous cells. She decided to send us to UCI to see a surgeon to take her appendix out. She worked really hard to get us in asap, my mother had her surgery in Aug, we were very fortunate to have caught this in time, because it turned out to be a big growth in her appendix that was going in her colon. I would recommend her to anyone, she is a an excellent doctor, and goes above and beyond for her patients! I also want to say she has a very excellent office staff, very efficient and courteous.
