    Day of the procedure

    I came to see Dr Hertz for some troubling symptoms I was having. After an examination she recommended an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I was hesitant to go through with the procedures because I'd never been sedated before and had some strong fears about the whole thing. Dr. Hertz assured me it wasn't a big deal and I'd be in good hands. After some thought I decided to trust her and go through with the procedures. On the day of the procedure we got started 30 minutes late, which didn't help the fact that I was already feeling irritated and fearful. When Dr. Hertz did finally show up she didn't apologize, rather she made a comment about how they were "only" running 30 minutes late, and that's not bad. I found this incredibly callous of her to say since I was sitting there an extra 30 minutes hungry and scared. After the procedure I woke up and immediately began to complain that my throat was hurting. They assured me that this was normal and should go away within 24 hours. I went home and went to sleep. When I woke up I felt a pain in my throat like I've never felt before. Swallowing, talking, and even breathing was agony. When I looked in the mirror at my throat I was shocked to see that my uvula had turned a deep purple/black color and the whole back of my throat was red and irritated (see pic). I immediately knew something was wrong so I called Dr. Hertz's office. It was after hours so I left a message explaining what was happening and asking for the on call doctor to call me back. IT TOOK 2 HOURS TO RECEIVE A CALL BACK. When my phone finally did ring my wife answered and explained the situation to the doctor (not Dr. Hertz). He offered no help and instead said he would have Dr. Hertz call us ASAP. 15 minutes later Dr. Hertz called back and my wife answered. Again my wife explained the situation calmly and clearly, but Dr. Hertz immediately got defensive. She asked to speak directly to me, not my wife,and basically said that what was happening was no big deal and will go away by the next day. She said if I was feeling discomfort I should buy some Vick's chloraseptic, or if I'm really worried I can go to the emergency room. I couldn't believe how she wasn't taking my concerns or injury seriously. It was very clear to me that this was more than routine discomfort and there was no way I'd be feeling better any time soon. I got the feeling she was annoyed that I was interrupting her Friday evening. At this point I got emotional and told her "thanks for nothing" and hung up the phone. Keep in mind i'd been given some strong drugs just hours earlier and still was not in my right mind emotionally. A few minutes after I hung up the phone I received a text from Dr. Hertz. This text was meant to be sent to her partner, but she made a mistake and texted me instead. In the text she called my wife and I assholes, saying that we were yelling and screaming at her (see pic). My wife NEVER raised her voice to Dr. Hertz, and although I may have been a bit harsh by hanging up, I would've hoped she could understand that I was scared and still not quite myself. I found this whole exchange extremely unprofessional. If Dr. Hertz can't even use her cell phone correctly it's no wonder she maimed me during the procedure. That night was pure agony, and at 3am I decided I needed to go to urgent care. When the doctor there saw me he was shocked that Dr. Hertz didn't offer me any antibiotics as a precaution for infection, steroids to help healing, or pain meds to help with discomfort. He prescribed all 3 and sent me home, saying it could take up to two weeks to heal. The next day Dr. Hertz texted me (not even the courtesy of a phone call) to see how I was feeling. When I told her about my urgent care visit she again became defensive. She told me the doctor I saw was wrong to give me those prescriptions since it's just a simple bruise. At this point I told her I would rather trust the doctor from urgent care and I would no longer be seeking any treatment from her moving forward. After doing some research on my own and speaking to a friend of mine who is an ER doctor I've come to the conclusion that I am suffering from uvular necrosis. This is a fairly common complication from an endoscopy and usually caused from compression of the uvula against the pharynx or hard palate that results in impaired blood flow and eventually necrosis. DR.HERTZ SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS AND WARN HER PATIENTS THIS IS A POSSIBILITY. DR. HERTZ SHOULD KNOW HOW TO TREAT THIS WHEN A PATIENT PRESENTS THE SYMPTOMS. Needless to say I do not recommend Dr. Hertz for even the most simple of procedures.

    Excellent doc! Had my colonoscopy with no problems and was in and out within a month, that's awesome for a specialist.

I've had strep before and received much less efficient and helpful care at other places, so it was refreshing. This urgent care has a spacious and clean lobby, and they were blasting the A/C on this 95° day, so that was nice. Check-in was simple and while they did accept my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, I still had to pay $100 out-of-pocket, but that's just my stupid insurance for you. All of the typical measurements and tests were quick, and the strep swab was the least unpleasant I've ever dealt with. The provider came in with the results five minutes later and was so friendly; she showed real concern for how bad my case was. Usually, I try to avoid urgent cares at all costs because I don't typically have good experiences. However, I would totally recommend this one! Glad a friend told me about it.

The ability to book appointments online makes the process seamless, and having on-site X-ray services is incredibly convenient. Our family has been coming here for the past few years with all 3 of my kids, and every physician we've encountered has been professional, attentive, and genuinely helpful. My sincere apologies to the outstanding doctors and office staff for the delay in sharing this well-deserved feedback.

I spent a lot of time reading reviews online on United HealthCare's website. I particularly liked that Dr. Pepitone studied at Rush University, I also really liked that he is not a brand new/ very young Dr. because this translates to him having many years of experience which translates to a benefit for (us) his patients. Both my fiancé and I had really a good experience with Dr. Pepitone and the rest of the staff at Healthcare Partners. I arrived 15 minutes early to fill out the new patient paper work. The nurse called me back 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment time to weigh me and get my vitals. Dr. Pepitone saw me a few minutes after that (right on time). He listened carefully to my health history and made notes while we were talking. He asked me questions to get an idea of my overall health. I have had a chronic health condition for the last 10 years and while going through my list of current medications Dr. Pepitone pointed out that the steroid nose spray ( Flonase) that I was currently taking could be contributing to this on going issue. I was so surprised to hear this, considering that all my other physicians had never made that connection or mentioned the serious side effects of this steroid nose spray to me. (I had been taking Flonase daily for the last 6 years) Dr. Pepitone prescribed a non steroid nose spray for my servere allergies. My overall impression of Dr. Pepitone is that he is a friendly, knowledgeable and caring physician with a very pleasant upbeat demeanor. After my appointment I met with the patient liaison who explained the benefits of Health Care Partners Medical Group. She explained how to sign up for the patient portal and how this platform gives patients direct access to email their Dr. and receive their results. She also gave me some literature with useful information like the nearest urgent care to our home. She asked how my appointment went and if I had any additional questions or concerns. She explained where I could go to get my labs ( blood work) done. She also told me that they have in office phlebotomists should I prefer to have my blood drawn in the office. My degree is in microbiology and I have worked in the Healthcare/ medical field for over 12 years for big companies like Labcorp and Banner Health. Because of my career experience I have a thorough understanding of what good patient care is and how a good medical practice should operate. My experience with Dr. Pepitone was excellent and I would definitely recommend him and Healthcare Partners Medical Group.

The liver doctor at hospital gave him a year to live. After he was released we were traveling to a doctor in San Gabriel which was quite a distance since my parents live in Lakewood, Ca. After searching the internet I came across Dr. Mankal in Los Alamitos and when I say he has been an absolute God send, I mean it!!!! While my father's condition is not without its issues, Dr. Mankal has been amazing. His bedside manner is incredible, he is patient and extremely knowledgeable and best of all my father is still with us, 4 years after the liver doctor at the hospital wrote him off. I also love the portal and usually get answers to questions or requests for meds within 24 hours. I hesitate to post this review because I worry Dr. Mankal will be swamped with new patients but then I think of others facing these types of challenges and needing quality care and feel compelled to share. New Patient Process I called the office to ask about their new patient process, and they helpfully walked me through the process and directed me to their online forms. After filling out the online forms and submitting them via email, I was able to call the office and have someone on the phone to help with questions. Super nice and patient staff members! They also responded to my patient forms same-day, and my first appointment was scheduled within a week. Appointments The patient portal and ability to use televisits is really convenient. I am not a tech-savvy person, and I was able to setup my account online, pay online, and virtually meet Dr. Mankal in a televisit. Patient Care Dr. Mankal listened to all my concerns and was able to describe what was happening in a way I could easily understand. He prescribed clear directions for next steps, and a prognosis. I really appreciated how clear and attentive he was.
