Look LIRR, I get it. This is a one-train-car kinda town and you barely care about it, but this is hardly fit for people to wait in. For crying out loud, the train times posted here don't go past Ronkonkoma - without a phone, you can't find a schedule for the station you're standing in! As a brand you have your share of problems, but this is above and beyond the normal nonsense. Clean up your act, and your stations.

The trains seem to run very slow on this line I feel like the train is doing 25 all the way to Ronkonkoma and you are practically riding right through peoples backyards. Also to make it worse, the past couple of times Ive taken this train and changed in Ronkonkoma I couldn't even find a seat on the Ronkonkoma train to the city because those trains are so crowded and had to stand the entire way to the city. This looks like a station you do not want to be at night there's always shady people hanging around here.(I don't think there are any trains here after 9 anyway.) I don't plan to use this station ever again and would suggest just going to Ronkonkoma or even use the Montauk branch which seems to have better service.

This is one of the best LIRR train stations for several reasons. First, it's in Port Jefferson, the…read morecoolest hangout spot on the north shore of Long Island. Second, a mile away is the Port Jefferson ferry to Bridgeport CT, which makes this station one of a rare few to have a corresponding ferry nearby. Third, there's always parking. Fourth, if you live in town, there's a dedicated resident parking lot. Fifth, there are bike racks. Sixth, it's located in upper Port Jefferson, within a short walking distance from plenty of shopping areas. Seventh, it's very well maintained, unlike some other LIRR stations. But the Montauk line is the real deal. When I was a kid, my dad owned the IGA in Hampton Bays. We'd have cousins come from Queens and take the train ride in to spend time with us at the beach. As a teenager, it was the best time ever. Thanks LIRR! From Penn Station NYC to the LIRR Montauk line its 116 miles. Think about this, you can fly to a different country *or* take the Long Island Rail Road to the end of Long Island and be in a beautiful beach town??? The train ends in Montauk, the end of the line. There is a MTA ticket machine here, make sure you buy a ticket going back to NYC or you'll pay extra on the train. There are cabs waiting to take you from the station to your hotel.
