Several branches (Port Jeff, Ronkonkoma, Oyster Bay) stop at Mineola; thus I do not have to wait a long time to take a train back to Long Island. The ticket booth in the waiting room is closed on weekends, but the waiting room itself is open every day of the week and has benches where passengers sit down, waiting for their trains. There are USB ports for smart device charging that are attached to the benches in the waiting room (see photo below), which is a big plus. There are two ticket vending machines outside across from the waiting room, but I purchased my tickets today, 6/17/26, from the MTATrainTime app, using Apple Pay. Overall, the station has good police presence. I feel safe. The only downside is that the restroom toilet was disgusting, and there is no free parking. LIRR riders must pay for parking in a nearby lot.

Honestly, it seems more reliable than the E train, especially in the morning and I can always get on an Astoria bound N train. Sometimes I have to wait for 2-3 Queens bound E trains until I can squeeze on. The N Train deserves more respect from me instead of just sitting there, waiting for me to take it while the E train gets my attention, but as the saying goes people only take advantage of you if you let them. So you just sit there and wait, N Train, and I'll call you when I feel like it. Until then, we don't know each other and so help me if you say anything to the E train, it might get ugly.

Simple, small train station…read more The Little Neck LIRR is served by the Penn Station and Port Washington lines. It's also one of the only LIRR stations in NYC with a crossing, so don't be running rate if you're catching a train on the other side of the platform. Purchase your ticket ahead of time. There's no indoor waiting area and there's only one shelter, but the platforms rarely get crowded, so it only really matters if it's super cold outside. There's also a decent-sized parking lot with a cab service (wouldn't recommend the latter unless you're in a hurry or the Q36 isn't running). Speaking of that 36, it used to wait for the Queens-bound trains to arrive during the evening rush. Don't know if it still does. The surrounding area is safe, so there's no need to have anxiety taking a train here at night. There's really nothing around the station except a little deli where you can grab a quick sandwich or drink before you depart.

To get to the Westbound side there are two options the overhead walkway (entrance located mid platform) or across the tracks at the entrance of the parking lot area. If you're running late it is highly likely you will miss your train unless you're already on the platform and can run up the stairs and down quickly. Be sure to leave enough time to buy tickets if you do not have any as the machines are located by the entrance of the parking lot which is on the East bound side.. there is one machine also located across on the west bound side. Parking lot has a fee for the weekdays but weekends it is free.

Came here for an early morning legal appearance and learned this station is definitely not walkable to that office. I also saw a food cart outside the station, which is a good thing since there don't appear to be any food places you could safely walk to from here. If you have a car you're good but if you don't, you'd better hope you have a ride nearby. At least there's parking and I think they had a lounge you could sit in while waiting for your train to arrive. I probably wouldn't be here again unless I had to be.

Port Washington goes straight into penn station with no transfer and also has trains every 30 mins . Compared to some other stations I thought this one was great , there is an indoor waiting room , you buy your tickets from a live real person LOL and also has beverages and a food cart outside . I tracked it down to this station and when I asked them behind the window in the station customer service booth he told me all lost and found items are brought to penn station. When I explained to him that my keys were here he was extremely rude and told me it wasn't. So I rang the tile key and it played and he still didn't let me have my key. LITERALLY SO FRUSTRATING. I'm still fuming. Never come here if you need to talk to someone! USELESS. now I have to wait till my stuff comes to penn station. And take a trip down there.
