South Street Liquor Store - One of the bottles spilled out in the ripped bag as well. This is why we can't have nice things

I won't be back. The service of the Asian guy working behind the counter at about 4:00 pm was not…read moreacceptable. He never looked me in the eye, and when the sale was complete, there wasn't one thankyou. I commented to that effect, and said that I would contact the GM of his performance. He gleefully told me to do so. If I happen to patronize the store again, and he's still there, I'll go to the next closest store. These types of employees can stifle your sales, and if it isn't addressed, it'll only get worse. BTW, I saw similar comments about this same employee in earlier posts. Best of luck.

I drove all over town aimlessly for thirty minutes looking for one gat dang liquor store and this…read morewas the first one I found. I was starting to believe this was a dry county, which would be literally unacceptable. Situated directly on business 59 on the outskirts of the loop around Nac there is one sign rising out of the ground alerting the passing motorists that Uncle's cough syrup may be obtained here. The windows are pretty darkly tinted, the building is in disrepair a bit, and so many nearby businesses have been closed and boarded up you aren't really sure they are open for business until you pull up. The building itself is low slung with some obvious wear, tear, and disrepair on the exterior. The side facing business 59 has an entrance that has been barricaded so the actual entrance is around the Dr. John cornder slightly ever closer to the SFASU campus. Inside is dimly lit, dusty, chaotically organized, and rather cramped so everything is on top of each other. This is good if you are lonely, a guy squeezing past me in the bourbon row is about as much action as I have had since I was last on the subway Q Line. My main complaint is the pricing in two different ways. First, it's ostensibly a monopoly on hooch in this part of the state so you can't expect it to be a race to the bottom in pricing out the gentlesir's bevs. Second, the pricing system is entirely silly to have individual price tag stickers located on the cap of every individual bottle (but still missing on many types of bottles entirely) rather than a placard for each type of thing that is standardized and easier to compare as you cruise the aisle for the gentlesir's preferred highest proof at the lowest price. Most problems in life can be fixed with appropriate signage. This is a thing that would benefit this place well. Also if you are going to use individual stickers on each bottle then at least heckin' hit them all, rather than leaving entire rows of bottles without a single price on them leaving the gentlesir to guess. All of the prices were inflated significantly compared to your average liquor store in any other town where there is at least the appearance of competition betwixt them. 750ml bottles of cheap stuff (the $7-10 range at Spec's) were starting at $20. The Jack and similar were in the 20 range, Crown was in $30 plus. Benchmark 8 was the cheapest Jim Lahey style plastic go-bottle at $12 but even Canadian Club which is a meme drink was pricier than that and that's usually $5.99 and you only get it when you are being an absolute degenerate alcoholic like Simon Lahey that is fixin' to pick up Smokey and pay him in cheeseburgers from the King of Donair afterwards. If the significant upcharges resulted in serene ambiance in the liquor store with harp music, fancy cheeses for sampling, and a handie in the back room behind the beaded curtain that's one thing but this is the kind of dingy place you would be embarrassed to be murdered in (like a Denny's) because it's definitely not Kennedyesque as far as murders go. Also it's just not your scene on a good day and it's def not your fiercest Babadook aesthetic on a bad day. Points for trying. But getting a ripped bag from the cashier soured my mood as it spilled out purchases and one of the flight attendant happiness doses spilled out over the rest of my selection of traveling size liquor bottles that let you feel Godzilla-like drinking tiny human drinks out of tiny human bottles.
