The party in the evening was a big success - both thanks to the New Zealand wine, as well as to the Anzac & Hokey Pokey Biscuits that I had baked the night before (see image of all three items). Today I called Philglas & Swiggot and inquired about Brazilian liquor - Cachaça. (Guess what - we're having a Brazilian-themed Happy Hour at the office ;-). Unfortunately, they don't carry it, but the person on the phone was very helpful nevertheless and pointed me to a shop where I would definitely find Cachaça: at Gerry's in Soho. That's what I call great service, thanks!

So, if you're a whiskey lover, you've probably already heard of Milroy's. It's been around for a…read morewhile, and carries some impressive moniker like, 'London's Original Whiskey Specialist.' Upon walking in, you kind of get why. The space is compact, but cozy. You'll find a number of both tried-and-true fan favourites, as well as some rare gems you probably won't find anywhere else. The small bar is usually manned by two people versed in the art of whiskey, but the guys you really want to meet go by the names of Thom and Joel. They not only know their lore, but have a comedic streak that will make you want to stay as much as the drinks. There is also a snug little cocktail bar downstairs if you like your whiskey to be watered down by sweetness and creativity, (I know I do). And, prices are about what you'd expect this deep into Soho - not break-the-bank steep, but fair for what they're providing.

Our bartender was super friendly and very chatty and walked us through some of his favorite whiskeys that they had available. The bar is definitely no-frills they basically only serve whiskey (neat or on the rocks) one beer or water. Definitely a place to take the whiskey lover in your life

I was seriously impressed as…read moreto how posh this place is...of course, situated in the heart of St. James's, what else could you expect? Well, I'm really "digging" the interior of this store - you actually feel like you're being transported back several hundred years; which actually is quite true, as this store has been around for a very very long time! Anyway, what I kind of disliked, was that the person who got my order ready, was quite a snob - very uptight British and made me feel as if I wasn't a worth customer. (Maybe he didn't approve of me coming into such a posh store with a hooded sweater?) Also, their website is really awful: I was trying to find out, where the store would be, but the website is impossible to maneuver through. It's all online selling, but there's no apparent link that will point you to where the actual store is! Well, thanks to Yelp I actually found it! So, three stars for this experience, but I might just come back another day again, as their selection of wines is incredible!

Honestly, I was spoiled silly being a five-minute walk away from both Warehouse [http://bit.ly/iaR6bx] -and- Astor Wines [http://bit.ly/cxpd0u]. Enter: Gerry's. With its takeaway-esque counter and library shelves full of adult beverage products, I couldn't ask for much more.* I walked in with a list (okay, okay... it was an Evernote doc) full of cocktail recipes and their corresponding components I'd stolen from a half dozen bars and lounges scattered across two continents and walked out with my messenger bag bulging with alcoholic reagents. Don't expect purchases here to be light on the bank account, but if you need a one-stop shop for most base spirits, some tough-to-find liqueurs, or an assortment of mouthwatering bitters, then get thee to Soho and have a wee nosey around this fine establishment! ---- * Well... I -could- ask that they stock Cocchi Americano in the future. Instead, I ended up making modified Vespers using a simpler Lillet Blanc and a few dashes of orange bitters. Hey - you make do with what you have. And I later discovered Selfridges' liquor locker does carry Cocchi Americano, for any other amateur bartenders and bartendresses out there reading this. * Also, I could wish that their credit card reader worked. It's a fortunate thing that I had a hefty wad of cash on hand. No joke about lightening my wallet!

I was lured into the shop one evening this week by a bottle of rye in the window. -turns out that that was the last rye in house, so I scooped it up. Bourbon was not in short supply, fortunately, so I helped myself to a bottle of Elijah Craig, too. They also carry Buffalo Trace and Woodford. I did not see any Maker's Mark for those of you who love you some Maker's. I would have loved to have seen Blanton's, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm just glad to have found a smattering of good bourbon in this town. SW4, a locally produced gin, was in house as well as Junipero, all the way from foggy San Francisco. They don't, I was told, seem to stock Sipsmith as it seemed to be too costly for them to do so. Bummer. And, as the name would suggest, they do boast quite a lovely selection of single malts. They carry Caol Ila, one of my faves, as well as some of the more usual suspects. -don't get me started on the Asian whiskies. This place is a must-visit destination.
