Ok, not gonna lie. This place is not in the best neighborhood and was a little scary to drive up to. I don't need a shiny, high ceiling, newly painted storefront in order to shop for booze. So, I really liked this place. It's conveniently close to Walmart at 121 and Beach street. I've driven by it many times and not noticed it because of its nondescript brown and somewhat forgettable name. Not anymore. The guy who checked me out appeared to be the owner and was very polite and quick. He has an incense burner at the counter which gave the place a pleasant aroma, not overwhelming as incense can sometimes be. I came looking for rum for a homemade egg nog recipe and found three shelves of options. The beer selection was perhaps the weakest of the sections. But, I can get my Winter Warmer at World Market. We've also witnessed him treating other customers the same way, so it's clearly a pattern. Management seriously needs to address this because it's driving customers away.

BUT, it's always a joy to shop small and shop local and get that whole local-neighborhood-feels fix. Crockett Street Bottle Shop offers just that. There's not a huge assortment of goods here, but they have your basics covered and you're not going to leave here with anything of poor quality. You'll spend a few extra bucks on the essentials; Maker's Mark, Fireball, Deep Eddy Vodka. The little wine cellar is really pretty and cozy, but don't come looking for bottles under $10 -- you're looking at $15 and up. And it's for the best, of course! I found some really lovely and not-so-common bottles of cab that I can't wait to buy more of. Nice sized walk-in cooler/beer cave/whatever you want to call it that has a pretty stellar variety for such a tiny store. The staff is great. You'll see the same folks in here and they're always sweet and ready to help. I read that they do tastings here, I'd love to see that happen! Great stop for some holiday shopping. :)
