Like most young boys our five year-old had what seemed to be limitless energy and like most parents; we were concerned with his ability to focus once school began. We looked at five different martial arts studios in the Virginia Beach area, and what stood out immediately to my husband and I was the LINXX program and instructors. All of the instructors had attended LINXX since they were children which speaks volumes about the environment they provided. After completing the trial, we were floored with the difference in Bobby. Now... don't get me wrong he was still only five and all things that go with being five years-old BUT, he started talking about self-control and self- respect, not that he understood what any of it meant but he was talking about it and that is a lot in a five year-olds world. Meanwhile, Thai Boxing itself was intense and he had to earn his advancement through testing which plays a significant role in his young life, to be able to understand that you have to earn your way up. At the other studios I felt that they were more passing students in order to advance them through the program in order to get new students in. Bobby has been in the program now for over a year and we could not imagine him going anywhere else. My husband was deployed a large majority of last year and the support that I had from the instructors was crucial in keeping Bobby on top of things. What LINXX gave to him was an entire set of adults to be accountable to that are not his parents or just me- during deployment. He was learning that his mom and dad and their 'dumb rules' weren't so dumb after all. I'm happy to say that our oldest ball of energy got green dots all year long, not one red or yellow dot- I know I know I had to brag. lol. I wish I could say it was because of my spectacular parenting skills and that I have a book coming out this summer... but it isn't. It takes a village, LINXX is apart of ours. read more

I travel over 250 days a year for work and pop into bjj gyms whenever I can. I've been training for over 4 years, and normally feel very welcome going to various gyms. I tried to call this "Academy" to ask about drop in classes. This gym is NOT friendly to out of towners. Very rude! Beware! read more

This is one if not the best martial arts studios in the Hampton Roads area. Their facilities are updated and their trainers are super knowledgeable. Linxx Academy is Great! I tried 2 other schools in the Va Beach area and as soon as I tried Linxx, I knew it was the school for me. The Gracie Combatives course is taylored to beginners. No need to worry about sparring with high level killers. Everyone is there to learn, no Ego's, no superstars, just a good bunch of training partners who wanna learn bjj. I can't stress enough how great the lead instructor Frank is. High attention to detail and efficiency, and just a great guy. The other instructors and the rest of the staff are awesome as well. I highly recommend Linxx for beginners, theres a ton of content online about Gracie Combatives. Also, they let you try a few classes for free so theres nothing to lose. Give them a try! read more

I have attended Linxx Academy for almost 5 months and I also practice Judo. There were 5 reasons that helped make up my mind to join this academy: 1) The instructional program is one of the best I have seen. It follows a well thought Gracie curriculum. Instructors are reviewed internally and by the Gracies in Torrance, CA to make sure they are delivering the techniques using the best possible teaching approach. 2) The instructors are very knowlegable, approachable and concerned with your growth in jiu-jitsu 3) The training facilites are clean and well maintained. 4) The focus is applied street self defence (every technique is looked at from a standpoint of "am I protecting myself?" -- this can get lost if a bjj school focuses on sport techniques where there is no risk of getting punched in the face because of sporting rules) 5) The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. It is a place where you want to see your friends and learn some jiu-jitsu. We are fortunate to have a lot of great jiu-jitsu schools in the area. I believe Linxx is the best. I visited the Linxx Academy for their trial period they offer to prospective customers. I definitely enjoyed the one-on-one experience I received with another trainer. Its an excellent environment which provides the ingredients of perfect motivation and determination to reach the goals you are aiming to achieve. I would say the only downside was the price, which was a very big downside. The monthly price was ridiculous and you must sign a 12-month agreement to even take advantage of their services. They should consider more competitive rates, with regards to other establishments in the Hampton Roads area. read more

I feel stupid telling people it sounded like a great place to try after I emailed them for info on their 10 day trial. I got an email back saying someone would contact me within 24 hrs, after no one did I emailed them back to let them know I was still waiting. That was a week ago. Considering they do charge a lot I would think they are more responsive? I guess they have enough patrons I will def go elsewhere for my family. read more

If I could give Linxx Academy more stars I would. Both of my sons train there and the is no better place to learn not only self defense but valuable life skills than here. In response to the first review this is a case of you get what you pay for. My wife and I had looked at several other training facilities before deciding on Linxx and the instructors and management at Linxx made the decision easy. The staff is truly attentive to every need of both the child and the parent and they have become like family over the past 5 years. My oldest son is getting ready to go compete in the North American Kickboxing Championships and several of the instructors have gone out of their way and volunteered their time to ensure he is ready. LINXX Martial Arts Summer Camp - I enrolled my 8 year old nephew visitng for the summer in a two week summer camp at LINXX. After visiting the facility, speaking with the manager and reviewing the brochure, it sounded like a perfect fit for my nephew. The summer program seemed a bit pricey, but with the advertised field trips, it was understandable. Well, I soon discovered that you were expected to pay entrance fees to the field trips (Cinema Cafe, Motorworld, Pizza, etc). So on top of the $500+, cost for extra camp shirts, parents were expected to pay for the local excursions. Of note, I've signed my daughter up for various excursion camps and all of them have been all inclusive, parents were always expected to send their child with "spending money". Long story short, the staff running the camp seemed very young and inexperienced. They never required signing my nephew in or out (pick up and drop off) and just seemed a little oblivious as to what was going on with the kids. I'd ask my nephew about his day and he would tell me that they played "dodgeball" for the most part with a couple of one hour sessions for martial arts and short runs. On the last day, upon picking him up, he told me that a kid had fallen on him while playing (not during the martial arts portion) and that he cried real hard at LINXX and that his elbow still hurt. No one from LINXX informed me of his injury when I picked him up. Embarassed, I contacted my sister who drove down from Northern Va and promptly took him to a doctor. He received x-rays and was placed in a sling. He had experienced an elbow fracture. We were totally appalled to say the least. I would not recommend this place to any parents out there. read more
