Brought a new seat from there but the guy was very dry. He was very clumsy with my bike as he took off my seat to put the new seat I had brought, he dropped all the pieces to my seat. He broke one of my lights then decided it would be best to zip tie it. Now I can no longer take it off my bike. He didn't even bother to tell me. Then as I was leaving I noticed my seat continued to move. It was because he didn't tighten it after replacing the new seat. I only went here because it was a block away from my job but won't go back because I feel disrespected that someone would break my light then zip tie it and not even bother to mention it to me. Careless with the property of others is a big red flag. I've been into several bike shops and always enjoy the warm experience but this just wasn't it. read more

I haven't been to the actual bike shop in Santa Monica, but I bought one of their Roadsters a year ago and just wanted to give it some praise. It's held up great and still looks like new despite almost daily use. It's exactly the kind of bike I was looking for but thought I'd never find. It rides great, it has a classic simple, clean design and I love riding it. It's the perfect bike for a flat city like Chicago. If I lived in a hillier city like San Francisco or Seattle I'd have probably gone with the roadster sport for some more gear options, but with the terrain I ride it in it's perfect. I'd imagine it'd work great in the LA basin too where Linus is located. In regards to a reviewer below who posted her mixte rusted in 2 months: I call bullshit. First of all, unless she enjoys riding through shallow ponds daily, I have a hard time believing enough water got on her bike in southern California, where it barely ever rains, to merit rust. I've ridden my bike in Chicago in the rain and snow countless times and never dried it off afterwards (even though I should have) and the only single speck of rust anywhere is on the screws of my backlight made by Planet Bike. It didn't even come with the Linus Bike. I just cleaned my entire bike today and that was the only rust despite the harsh weather conditions of Chicago. So if her review was a concern of yours, I seriously would not let it be. There has to be more to her story than just "my bike rusted after 2 months." Yeah right. Stop pulling a Terminator 2 and riding in the sewer trenches then. You can tell how good she takes care of her bikes when she says she left her bike outside next to the Hudson in New York for 8 years. I just didn't want to let her review deter you from buying a bike because the rust thing has not been an issue in one year of harsh Chicago weather. I have one single complaint about the bike: the seat isn't very comfortable. Now, that's a pretty standard problem with most bikes and it's easily solved by buying a new seat. I just got a Brooks leather saddle and the problem is solved. But I also wanted to say that when I was in a bike shop today looking at the Linus Bikes they had in stock, I felt the seats and they seemed to be much softer/squishier than the one that came with mine, even though they were visually identical, which makes me think they improved/changed the seats since I purchased my bike a year ago. Not positive. Definitely test ride before you buy but don't let the seat make/break your decision. Easy fix. One more little side note: I appreciated that the bike came with a little nail polish sized container of extra black paint that matches the bike. I used it today to paint over a few spots where I've dinged up the bike and after cleaning the bike and doing paint touch ups today it literally looks brand new after a year. I hope they're still giving the paint containers with the bike! read more

I didn't end up buying a Linus bike from this store because the guy who answered the phone was rude and unhelpful. I DID however buy a bike from a local bike shop with excellent customer service! Not only was the Local Shop (not this one) helpful, knowledgable, and polite, but they gave me an excellent price on my bike and told me I could bring it back for any adjustments until I loved it. The dude at THIS shop, ( the "flagship" store I believe), quoted me the msrp price... plus tax and then dead air. He answered my questions with a yes or no and offered nothing else. The funny thing was I was calling from my car and was headed to Venice and after that phone call I turned around. I've worked in Sales all my life, the FIRST thing you need to be is Polite. Find a local Bike shop, they work/try harder for your money. read more

I HIGHLY recommend Linus. I bought my first new bike in decades eight years ago. I spent months researching the best bike for me, knowing exactly what I wanted, but not even sure if what I wanted existed; Linus came up over and over again. So I bought my first Linus, the "Roadster 8." I road that bike, almost every day, and loved it. Last November, it was stolen. Because eight years had passed, I researched newer models from other brands. LOTS of newer models. There STILL was nothing that matched Linus in quality, style or customer service. I was disappointed that they no longer made the "Roadster 8," but was happy to discover that the new model is the "Roadster 7i"! I went to the Venice store to investigate and, again, was extremely impressed with Linus' customer service. Connor, who manages the store, literally couldn't have been more helpful. He takes making sure that you have the model you will be happy with seriously. It was a level of customer service that is rare at this point. I love my Linus Bike! I had one of those heavy cheap beach cruisers and just couldn't keep up with my boyfriend on his super light fixie. He found this place and heard that they were great and light weight! We went that weekend to try them out and I love it! It just moved so well and I didn't feel weighed down. I am now able to keep up with him and not get exhausted. I got the single speed and can even make it up hills! I highly recommend this bike!! :) read more

Great location of a bike shop. I purchased a green roadster sport and it's perfect! The staff was friendly and answered all my questions regarding the bikes they sold. They let me test all their models on hand and helped me find the perfect bike. A+++ service. It took a total of 5 days for my bike to be ordered, shipped to their shop and assembled which was great. I was able to pick up the bike on the weekend and give it a go around town. The only downside is that the stock seat is a tad stiff. Besides that, my bike rocks! read more

Update: Welp, my Sturmey Archer 5 speed finally died. I'd suggest shying away from that model hub if you're looking at Gastons. I think they only sell 3 speed models now for this reason. Still, the customer service at the shop was very, very good. **Still riding my Gaston daily. At this point it's been ridden constantly on both sides of the US. I used it as a delivery bike in Philadelphia for a good chunk of 2013 and the beginning of 2014. This included bouts of snow, sleet and ice through their worst winter in decades. I added fenders, and finally bought new tires (Schwalbe Delta Cruisers, so they're still that rad cream color but avoid flats a good deal better.) Never missed a beat. Now I'm back west, riding hundreds of miles a week. All the hardware and components have held up (though salt on snowy streets did finally start with a touch of rust... Just because I wasn't diligent washing it!) Still going strong, and no sign of stopping! read more

Compared to the 4-5 other bike shops I visited, Linus had the worst customer service and bike knowledge. Other area shops' employees show a genuine interest and radiating passion for bikes. I really went into the experience excited and assuming I'd make a Linus buy. I love the thought of supporting a Venice-based brand, but the shop experience really turned me off. If the employees weren't so smug, and instead showed a bit more customer care, interest and passion, the customer experience would greatly benefit. read more

Own my 2nd Linus bike and always wanted to go visit Linus bike shop in Venice, needed a part and called ahead, I live in O.C. and with traffic it took 45 min. to get there, well worth the trip, the gentleman who answered phone was very helpfull along with the staffs at the store, this cozy beautiful store has a nice display and variety of Linus bikes and shelful of unique bike accesaries; helmets, bells, saddles, racks, grips, cool Linus t-shirts etc... Love my well made Linus bike, possibly the best way to describe the bike is zenly-elegant with high quality and highly polished components, it truly is a work of art! I bought my Linus Roaster Classic bike a few weeks ago and I just absolutely love it. It's so light weight, really quick, perfect control. After riding it for the past few weeks, I really feel like the bike and I have warmed up to each other and are really a perfect match. I spoke with both owners the first time to test ride and the second time to buy. Both could not have been friendlier or more helpful, even when I was just there to test it out. I finally decided to buy a Linus blue roadster, after secretly wanting one for a while. I went to the Linus store on Abbot Kinney to buy one last Wednesday morning, and I was very excited to receive it. Unfortunately, I received a call today (the next Monday) that the warehouse had sold out. I was told that the bike was in stock & available when I ordered it (and paid for it in full), but "By the time we got around to placing the order this morning, it was sold out." That's a direct quote. Seriously, they waited 5 DAYS to even place my order after I physically came into the store and swiped my credit card. There was ZERO apology. ZERO attempt at selling me on another model or guaranteeing me a call when the bike I wanted might come back into stock. ZERO f**ks given. It's a bummer because I was super stoked to have this bicycle and willing to pay over $500 for it. And it's a bummer to know that I could have just bought it online. Instead I wanted to give some business to this local shop, which backfired on me because the staff didn't care. I work in sales. And yes I understand that when something is not available, it's not available. And I understand that this review isn't going to change anything. But, it would be nice for the salesman to offer ANYTHING: an upgrade, a different model, a pre-order, or even an apology. NOPE. NOTHING. My advice - order online and avoid this shop. read more

This is a review about the bike and not the store. My Linus Roadster 3 Speed Bicycle has 1,305 miles on it... here's my thoughts about the Linus Bicycle which was purchased in Philadelphia at Bicycle Revolutions Nice Price - wanted a English style upright bicycle and didn't want something covered in stickers and logos. If you're thinking about buying this bicycle please consider: Tires - I drove them in the summer, winter, rain, ice and snow since I use this as my daily commuter. They still have tons of treading - I ride on asphalt and gravel. Two flats in one year so I guess they're doing a good job and they have a acceptable about of roll. Seat/Saddle - Removed it after a few rides. Purchased a Schwinn spring saddle on eBay. Cost about $20 3 Speed Hub - I really beat it up since I switch up and down at each stop but it hasn't given me any problems. Hand-grips - No problems and still look good even after getting wet a few times. I moved the shifter down on the handlebars to make more room for my hands to fit completely on the handlebars. The shorter grip now looks strange. Stem that connects to handlebars - Upgraded to a longer stem which allows me to sit in a more upright position. I rode the bike for about 8 months before making the switch for personal preference. Cost $40 Brakes - No issues and easy to adjust on my own. However, they leave black marks on the rims when it rains. Rims are hard to keep shinny and clean. Hint - the break levers have a set screw that allows you to adjust the distance between the lever and the handle bars - this it great and makes the bike so much more comfortable. Rims - I read that someone warned about not putting to much weight on the rims or rack due to poor quality. I don't see any problems - I carry about 10 pounds each day and exceeded 40 lbs on the rack with no problems. Rust - I also read comments about the frame rusting. I don't have any and keep the bike outside during the day. It sat it rain and snow for many days. However, I do wipe the bike down with a damp cloth - You Should Never Wash the Bike - Never!! I wipe down the bike about once or twice a week and use a spray wax about once a month - the bike looks new. Chain guard - Doesn't have one but the large outer covering over the sprocket does it's job well. I thought this would be an issue for me but my pants don't get caught and I don't roll up my dress pants when riding. Head badge - It's plastic and cheap. It didn't last past 30 days. Chain and gears - No problems. I do use a bicycle oil and put a few drops on the chain each week. When you smell the oil you used enough - that's what the bicycle shop guy said and it's appears to be working well. Rack - I initially was using a bungee strap to hold stuff on the rack. I upgraded to a Wade Basket. I toss all my stuff in a recycled supermarket bag. Cost $20 Tip: If you buy the bicycle. Pickup a Allen wrench set and an adjustable wrench. This will allow you to make your own adjustments to the bicycle as you ride it. read more

These bikes suck BIG BALLS!!! They are not cheap, but made very cheaply. The service at the store blows too! Totally disorganized and after riding 2 bikes in the last year and a half, they are falling apart!!! When my boyfriend took his bike for a ride the other week, the spokes started breaking during the ride. He took it to the shop in Venice where we both purchased our bikes and he was told he would have to pay to replace the spokes, but they couldn't guarantee the work or that it wouldn't happen again soon after. Now a week ago, by pedal broke in half. My boyfriend and I are not heavy by any means for something like this to happen. I barely weigh 100 lbs. and he only weighs 185 lbs. We both work full time so it's not like we are riding the hell out of them on a daily basis, so to spend over a thousand dollars for 2 bikes and accessories and have them fall apart and then continue to get crapy service is LAME! We are now looking for new bikes and dropping these off at the junk yard for scrap metal. read more

The folks at Linus Bike in Venice are terrific! I went in this afternoon with my Linus bike that I purchased last September for my birthday. The bike is beautiful and I've taken great care to keep it indoors when I'm not riding. It's in pristine condition. However, the coils of the seat have gotten rusty. I brought it in and showed Melody and she said, "How about if I give you a new seat?" I'm totally good with that! She replaced my seat, moved my bell for me and showed me some accessories I will purchase for my next birthday!!!! Now that's customer service!!!! read more

I'm an adult newbie and after watching me fall off his bike, my husband insisted that I get a helmet. I stepped into the Linus store to buy a nutcase (which I love!) and walked out with a bike (thanks, hubs!). I tried every model and ended up choosing the roadster sport. I appreciate that it comes in three sizes and loved the clean lines. the staff was friendly and knowledgable. I love my bike and try to ride it every weekend. No falls since. Yes, size matters.
