Like many doctors, unfortunately, he doesn't do what the best doctors do: listen to the whole story, ask questions, and probe for answers. Instead, he gives simple answers and refers off to specialists. I felt like I had to be the one to size up the problem, break it down to what he could help me with and what additional information might need to come from tests or specialists -- and I'm not a doctor! I've experienced that thoroughness in the past and it made a huge difference in whether I got well or just bounced from one medical person to another with nobody steering the ship.

Since she's been here, I don't mind dodging through Medford's traffic to come to this office. I do have to be honest with you, if I was a new patient and reading the newest reviews here, I would be quite anxious about coming here for the first time. However, the good news is, I've never had any of the negative experiences as described by others. On my most recent visit, it was due to a medical scare. Not life or death scare, but serious enough for me to see the doc. My call was answered right away and she was able to squeeze me in to see Dr. T. the very next morning since she was off that day. I was given a choice to see a different doctor that very day, but since I wasn't dying I opted to wait for the morning. The office normally opens at 9:00 AM that day, they squeezed me in at 8:15 AM. It meant a lot to me that they were willing to go the extra mile for a sick patient. Most of the tests can be done in the office. Blood works are done around the corner of the building at Winchester Hospital Drawing Station. Tests they cannot do in the office will be done within the Winchester Hospital Organization. Dr. Tahmassian is an absolute angel, so is Ann Marie (her RMA), and the administrative ladies. They are all very professional and considerate to what you need, and what you are going through. In my opinion, communication is what makes or breaks a doctor's visit. Whether it is a call-back, a refill, rescheduling an appointment, patient portal messaging, or simply one-on-one conversations with empathy. I am extremely satisfied with the level of communication here. Plenty of parking in front of the office. However, it is not free. You need to go to one of the two machines and put in your license plate number. It's 25 cents for every 15 minutes, cash or card. By the way, the machine closest to their door is always broken.

I recently moved into the area and was looking for a PCP. Dr. Beaulieu had relatively good reviews and had his own private practice. I wanted to support a local business, so I decided to begin seeing him. The first appointment went relatively well, and I thought he was the type of doctor who cared a great deal about his patients. The second appointment and every interaction since then has been terrible, however. During the first appointment, he drew blood and we talked about my medical issues. I told him I had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease through a blood test when I was 17. I also told him fatigue was an issue. Dr. Beaulieu requires that patients come back for a follow-up appointment post-bloodwork rather than just mail them their results. I guess that helps him earn more money. But whatever. I decided my health was important, so a second appointment it was - even though I had to leave work early to get there in time. During the second appointment, it turned out that a) he tested me for the same autoimmune disease I told him that I have, and it seemed clear that he did not believe I actually had it and was simply making it up and b) he did not test me for anything related to my current fatigue. He did 2 standard blood tests in addition to testing me for an autoimmune disease - which I have a diagnosis for - and neither of them connected to fatigue at all. He essentially completely dismissed what I had to say. The whole retesting for this autoimmune disease felt like a way for him to "catch" me making this up. I asked him why he tested for this, and his response was that "He had doubts that I had it." During this same appointment, he told me that Vitamin C was as effective as many vaccines. Also, guess what? My insurance will not cover a test that I did not need - i.e., the autoimmune disease test. So I get to pay out of pocket for that. There was zero need to test for it except for him to feel good. I then ran out of an important prescription. It was originally prescribed by a different doctor who can no longer prescribe it - I was living abroad for the past two years, and so the prescription that I had was only valid in that country. Knowing that it might be awhile before I could find a PCP, I stocked up before coming back to the U.S., but just ran out. I called two weeks ago, and could not get in touch with anyone. I called his office 6 times today, hoping to talk to Dr. Beaulieu and get this prescription phoned in. Instead - when the phone was actually answered by an answering service - I was told I would be called back within 30 minutes or less. Surprise surprise - I was not. When I called back and talked to the "service" they asked if I had somehow blocked the number on my phone. I am still unable to get in touch with my PCP, who is the only one who can write this important prescription. Frustrated doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. If you think that using a private practitioner will mean more individual attention from your PCP, you are absolutely wrong. Choose another one.

My pcp is Dr. Celler, and she is absolutely fantastic. She is very patient and a very attentive listener, and is great at explaining things in a way that I understand (though never in a condescending way). I know she has a very high volume of patients, but I have never felt as though I was being rushed out or ignored. I do understand some of the negative reviews, particularly with regard to Dr. Solomon (both of my parents have been seeing him for a very long time and used to be big fans of his, but have nothing but negative things to say now), but other than that I personally have never had anything but really positive experiences here.

While you may have to schedule routine appointments well in advance (3 months or more for physical), any time I have been sick and needed an appointment quickly, I was scheduled immediately.
