Our first time at Linden Stores, which I'd read about on The Nudge, and it really surpassed our expectations. Very interesting wine list which was a lot of fun to choose from - the staff were very helpful and knowledgable. A nice simple interior, with white tiles and all the bottles on display, made it feel like a cool wine bar rather than a stuffy restaurant. But the food was the star: absolutely delicious sweet onion fritters, followed by a super-fresh dish of tomatoes, broad beans and goat cheese, cod cheeks with tartare sauce, and 'spuds' with Bovril mayo. Bit too full for dessert but couldn't resist the elderflower pannacotta with strawberries. Dishes brought when ready, so it was easy to share while enjoying our (reasonably-priced) wine. Everyone seemed to be having a really good time without that Friday night rowdiness, so the atmosphere was very pleasant. Service was attentive without being annoying - someone even ran halfway down the road after me because I'd forgotten my sunglasses. Bill was £76 for two pre-service, for above dishes plus a bottle of wine, two glasses of wine, and a post-dinner Talisker (the glasses are all a fiver), which seemed very reasonable for such good quality. The sort of place I'll recommend to everyone I know. read more
