The staff are visibly miserable, unfriendly, and downright rude. And it's not just a bad day, but I witness or experience this every time I come in. There's one male employee in particular who is especially unprofessional. He completely ignores you when you speak to him -- no acknowledgment, no help, not even basic decency. It's as if your presence is an inconvenience or you're speaking another language. What's more upsetting is that this isn't happening in isolation. It's happening in a working-class, urban, predominantly POC neighborhood. And it's hard not to notice the pattern. I truly believe this Target allows this level of customer mistreatment because of where it's located and who it serves. Would this kind of behavior be tolerated at a Target in a wealthier, whiter neighborhood? Doubtful. This isn't just about bad service. It's about how people in certain communities are dehumanized and made to feel like they don't deserve basic courtesy. Target should be ashamed to let a store carry their name and brand while treating people this way. Do better.

This is the oddest Burlington that I've ever been to. I was in the area early for a Yelp! Elite…read moreevent and decided to do some shopping beforehand. The entrance to the escalator leading up to Burlington is filthy. Garbage everywhere. Once you get up to Burlington, it's quite confusing. First, I set off the alarm going IN. I don't know why. I didn't even have any bags on me. Then I had to go through this maze and wait for a security guard to open the security tape and let me in! So freaking weird. Once in, the store is pretty decent. However, the beauty section is chaos. Not organized at all and is a big mess. This is the largest Burlington I've ever been to. 4 floors. It's hard to browse all 4 because the longer you're in this store, the longer you'll be on line! The line was crazy long when I got there but there were quite a few registers opened so I didn't wait too long. I've had longer waits at other Burlington's. It's kind of jarring to see multiple security guards walking around with BULLET PROOF VESTS with loss prevention printed on them. Also, 80% of the items in the beauty section are in plastic boxes. The employees weren't too friendly. I did find some good buys for a great deal, but that's typical at any Burlington. Would I come to this Burlington again? Not too sure seeing as I don't live in the area. There's a slight chance that I'd come by again if I'm ever around that neighborhood. One last thing. Not only did I set the alarm off going into the store. I also set it off leaving. Did they check either time? Nope. If they're that strict with loss prevention, you'd think they'd do so. Obviously, the scanners don't work so why don't they get them fixed, again, being that they're tight with loss prevention?

Welcome to Shoptober! NYC has no shortage of dollar stores. Whether for cheap goods, no-name food…read moreitems, or a slice of pizza, they fulfill an economic niche. For such an expensive city, these stores cater to the underserved, the frugal and the tight-budgeted. You see lots of mom & pop 99 cent stores, Family Dollars & Dollar Generals all over the map, but Dollar Tree is probably the most prolific. These are the current generation of the old five & dimes like Woolworth's and Lamston's. Almost everything in Dollar Tree is priced at a dollar, though there are pricier items. If the price is not marked, then it defaults to $1. I find that this store is more organized and well managed than others I've shopped and I can always get a spot in the parking lot. The seasonal section is always well stocked whether it's for 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas. I like to browse the arts & crafts aisle, picking up random paint brushes, jars and pallettes for my hobbies. I even got a bunch of small cutting mats for a $1 each where you might pay up to $10 or more at Michael's. You'll also find me browsing the hardware, kitchenware and office & party supplies aisles. The toys aisle is always a mess no matter how many people they have fixing it up. Kids, ugh. You might not find big name brand items here, but you can always find something useful for a really low price. $1 spice shakers, anyone? And would you trust a $1 pregnancy test? Look for those hanging on the racks at checkout next to the no-name BIC lighters.
