Made appointment online 4 days in advance. I received four additional automated emails confirming her appointment. Never received her email saying she would not arrive. I hired someone to do a job that we were supposed to do that day. She didn't show. I called her twice. I texted her several times and emailed her. 2 hours later. She gets back to me and says oh I don't work on weekends and says she understands if we want to just hire somebody else? Glad she enjoyed her weekend really ruined our's and cost us our labor time. Getting your piano tuned can be an anxious experience. Your beloved baby is making horrible sounds as someone tortures it. Your cats are deeply alarmed, and so, frankly, are you... What if the technician doesn't know what he or she is doing? What if your piano gets hurt? After moving, though, it was time to get my piano tuned. I spent an awfully long time on Angie's List reading reviews of piano technicians, and read great things about Linda Scott. Her website made me feel even more comfortable, so I gave her a call. She booked an appointment for me a week out at my request. She arrived early, and called to see if I was ready. I was, so she set to work. My piano was hugely out of tune, but she quickly brought it right up to where it needed to be. I also liked that she was very honest about what it would need in the future (another tuning in 6 months, and then not again for 1-2 years). So many tuners try to convince you that your piano needs to be tuned every 6 months. She also told me a very low-cost way to deal with acoustic problems of the room where my piano sits. I have used Linda for several years tuning my Yamaha CP-70 (acoustic/electric) and I found her decent to work with, although sometimes she did make me feel like my piano wasn't worth her time. She offered ideas and concerns about voicing and tonal vibrations that were causing other problems and she was correct about those. The last time I had her tune my piano, she left and when I went to play it I found one of the strings not sustaining. I removed the cover and found that one of the strings was not sitting on the pick up correctly. I found the problem easily, but when I called her and said this had happened she said she wasn't very familiar with that type of piano and that's why she missed it. However, I found the problem right away (first by ear, then by sight) and I know next to nothing about piano engineering; I disagreed and assumed she was in a rush. She did offer to return to fix the problem, but I declined since it was such an obvious mistake I again felt my piano wasn't worth her time and I have decided to work with another tuner. Over all Linda is a nice person and I am sure she does well with many clients, but perhaps she picks and chooses the clients she likes to get along with. read more

My fiancé bought my daughter a baby grand last Christmas. We just wanted it tuned. It had been tuned less than a year previously. She told me it needed a 'few adjustments' that ended up costing another $100. It sounded fine for about a week after she was finished. Then one of the keys started making a noise. Then another one. Finally, several keys ended up sticking. It got to the point that about 6-7 keys completely stuck when my daughter played. I called Linda to tell her. My wife and I met Linda Scott yesterday when she came into our gallery in Pacific City to see our current show featuring a Portland artist who happens to be an accomplished pianist and, we learned, one of Linda's clients. As it happens, a Yamaha baby grand had been delivered to the gallery several days earlier--a gift from another one of our artists who was moving and wanted to support the enhancement of our space as an events venue. However, we had little idea about the piano's condition, and Linda graciously agreed to take a look. She identified a number of issues and advised us about repair options and costs. She said she could attempt to clean and re-twist a number of corroded bass strings, and was very forthright that these strings may nevertheless have to be replaced. Working quickly and efficiently, she tackled the bass strings, as well as rust on the steel strings, removed and cleaned the action, reset the keys, and thoroughly cleaned up the rest of the piano's interior, which badly needed attention. She was able to restore the bass strings back to life, and after two hours, we had a beautiful looking, wonderful-sounding instrument enhancing our gallery space. Linda advised us about longer-term maintenance and adjustments that might be necessary and generally left us feeling very positive about our fortuitous meeting. Her work was substandard. After she'd "finished" tuning my 6'4" grand I had to point out it was still out of tune. Then she told me the piano had been so out of tune that it couldn't be properly tuned. She should have told me BEFORE, not when she "finished" and wanted to be paid. I had the tuning properly done by someone else. My feeling: she was in a rush to get to another appointment. read more

Linda Scott has been tuning the piano at the recording studio i manage for over 6 years now. She always does such great work! Our piano is harder to tune, it is over 100 years old. We are so happy that Linda is very experienced, talented, and patient so that she can keep it in good shape! Our studio time schedule is irregular. Linda has gone out of her way several times to accommodate last minute, very early morning, and evening requests. She charges a fair price and gives honest assessments of work that needs to be done to improve and maintain the piano. She is very kind and a pleasure to do business with. read more

Linda has been tuning my pianos for many years and always does a fabulous job. There are lots of good piano tuners in the area, but I always call Linda because she treats my old piano with respect. She doesn't make promises about what it can be, but she gives the best of her expertise to make it sound wonderful. And when she is done, it does sound wonderful. I hired Linda to work on a piano that had been hard used and needed a lot of work. The goal was to get it to good sounding and working condition for use in a recording studio. Two pedals weren't working. It needed some new strings, regulation, voiceing, etc. I paid her over $3000 for her work on the piano. The first warning sign came when she said that some parts that she had ordered had gone missing from her doorstep, and unfortunately I would need to pay for them twice. I should have paid her for her work to date then and found someone else, but the parts turned up and I stayed positive about working with her. She is actually quite charming at first. The big shock came after she said she had completed the work, and unfortunately I had already paid her. My friend sat down to play the piano. The sustain pedal still wasn't working. The top two octaves were badly out of tune. In fact some of the strings were as much as a half step off! The regulation was terribly uneven. When I talked to her about it and asked her to complete the work she refused and said that we had different ideas about what condition the piano was in and that she had completed her work and that was that. Unfortunately I had already paid her in full and she refused to refund any money. I'm sure not everyone's experience with her is this bad, but in the process of finding a couple other competent technicians to work on the piano, I discovered that she does not have a good reputation for her work. I agree with the other reviewer who spoke of her condescending tone. When I brought up the problems, she was very rude and completely unresponsive to my requests. It's quite possible you could hire Linda to tune or work on your piano and have a good experience, but I strongly advise against it. I just don't think it's worth the risk when there are many other great technicians in our area. read more
