Cottonwood Camping & RV Park - This was a short drive as Cottonwood is only about 8 miles from the coast, just west of Englishman Bay.

Folks, I don't really know what to say other than 'you just gotta come here!'…read moreI love this place! I came through on a hum last year, stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. Told Shirley (the owner) I would be back "next year" to help out, and here I am, Aug. 8th, 2019, sad to leave after spending 4 weeks in the grand teepee, helping out around the camp. Off route 1, into the woods, to grandmama's RV we go! But it is so much more... tent sites, group sites, great trails, and great vibe from the surrounding community. But what you really want to know is; this is a great base for exploring coastal Maine & Downeast. Now understand 2 things... Downeast is on the coast, but when the term 'downeast' is used, it is very much a reference to the culture of the folk who grew up and live here and have also known it through the generations of their family. Once you get here, you're in the thick of what "coastal Maine" really is without the crowds of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, etc.. from Cottonwood you will find within 20 mins. Never crowded beaches with all the beauty of those other places... and you can also make a day trip of getting to Easport or Calaise and just breath in New Brunswick! Oh yeah, bring your passport... One of the other things I love about camping here, are the various small sites that are suitable for bicyclers and bikers who travel with minimal gear and need to stop for short stays. Even though its right off the road, once in, you're cast into the woods! Oh yeah, and I can't think of another camp with such a great bath house along this route... Cottonwood Camping is truly a great experience and my pick as a base for exploring Downeast, Coastal Maine, the far north on the east side of the U.S. Shirley Cotton makes it happen! She is the BOMB!!

I can honestly say this place was easy to find and very photogenic. Easy to recommend.read more

The owner's son and his friend are very slick scamming con-artist types who are more than willing to mis-represent and unload tainted products onto unsuspecting consumers. I will never do business with them again. This seemed like a reputable business to me, but it is not. Buying a horse or anything else from this place would be a big mistake. I became the victim of an elaborate deception at KD Stable which was perpetrated by the owner's son and his friend Scott R. Hinkley. They drastically mis-advertised the condition of a Mazda 6 s in an ad posted to Craigslist, claiming it had a "perfect body" and "all it needs is an ECM, $100.00 from a junk yard" when in fact the whole engine needed to be replaced which would be a repair costing over $3,000. Furthermore, I was told (wrongly) that it had never been in accident, when in fact it is a salvaged vehicle that has been patched up with a homemade body repair to the front quarter panels. They also claimed that the ECM had died on the way home from the inspection station, but this also turned out to be false as there is a 100 mile difference between the odometer reading and the mileage stated on the inspection sticker. The battery had been deliberately removed to prevent testing the engine, and the story about the ECM failing was invented to hide the car's larger issues. Now I am left with little money and no other option than to part out the car. I really feel like a sucker because I needed a car that I could drive, and was mislead into believing that I could drive this car after replacing the ECM. When I contacted the business owner to report the problem and asked her to arrange a refund, I received 2 phone calls from Scott threatening to sue me for harassment, and an email from the owner demanding that I never contact her again or she would consider it harassment. Unbelievable! Doing business here is simply not worth the money or aggravation... stay away.
