We went to the Boundary County Fair quite by accident. We had gone out to the fairgrounds to get…read morewater and sure enough, we arrived in time for the soft open of this year's (2022) fair. Overall, it was a great time. Lots of animals to see, plenty of booths to peruse. The local 4H Club really did an amazing job displaying their livestock, to say nothing of how they raised them to show quality. The food options were wide and excellent, ranging from authentic Pilipino cuisine (lumpia is my kryptonite, btw) to local pizza joints and Hawaiian shaved ice. Indeed, the only stick in the mud was the enormous bounce house, which was what attracted our six year old over there in the first place. The bounce houses were huge, looked amazing, but the titan of industry running the suckers needs to rethink his admission pricing and strategy. He charges $3 for 6 minutes in a single bounce house. No exploring the others, you pick one and you're stuck with it. No takes backsies. You can get an all day pass for $25 (news flash though, the fair opened in the late afternoon early evening, so all day really only meant the last couple of hours of the day). We only have one child, but still, $25 to play in a couple of bounce houses? It ain't exactly Disneyland, and while $25 is about what you'd pay for parking at D-Land, it's still utterly disproportionate to the attraction. If you're bringing multiple kids? Multiple kids that you'd like to keep entertained for more than six minutes (which is fastidiously monitored via stopwatch)? The Kootenai Festival offered free bounce houses. While I wouldn't ask this...Fellow...to sacrifice his business model for a little altruism, he could at least adopt a pricing scale. The fair itself doesn't charge admission for entrance, and is an overall lovely gathering and display. Bounce house guys? Yeah, not so much.
