When I saw the work, I was shocked by how sloppy, rushed, and low quality it looked. This was not professional work and not something any business should hand to a customer. I explained that I was unhappy with the quality and asked for my money back because I could not use this canvas for my client. Instead of trying to fix the problem, they refused and kept saying, "This is how we do it," and that they already spent time, labor, and materials on it. They acted like there was nothing wrong with the work at all. What made the experience even worse was the attitude and disrespect. Instead of helping or apologizing, I was told to leave the store. I also took photos of the canvas so people can judge the quality for themselves. I would not recommend this place if you expect professionalism, quality workmanship, or respectful customer service.

Carter Sexton Artist Materials is located in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley within the Valley Village/Studio City area and resides on Laurel Canyon Boulevard/just a beat down from Chandler Blvd and the Laurel Canyon Metro Station for the Orange (aka G) line. It's got lots of fun nooks and crannies with great materials, supplies, service and sales (including 40% off, clearance items and more). It was easy for me to follow a lot of their played out pricing for canvas (10 years in retail, though it's been almost 10 years since I walked away from it and yet still retain so much lol). I ventured into the "Come (On) In" area and discovered some complimentary artist guides, incredible artwork and extra items I was seeking for a sketching event I hosted over the weekend. Love coming in on Saturdays, though it's been several months since I was last in, hoping to change that, check out more of their events, including some great some shows this holiday season like their Medley. I don't have much to submit by their deadline, but highly recommend you do if you're an artist, aspiring artist or creative. They definitely are neighborhood feel with some cool regulars. Caught some warming interactions and references to Cheers (the 80s to early 90s series) between the staff and a really nice returning customer. I'm not sure if Kelli was there when I stopped in, but I've had some greatest response with her in the past online when inquire about things. Everyone is super knowledgeable, mindful and respectful. Ready to assist, but also let you take your time exploring and feeling out all they have to offer. Street parking primarily with a 1hour limit from 8am to 6pm. Some limited spaces in their back alley parking, that I'm sure is super great for their staff/ the Carter Sexton family. Its first come first serve, but you might get lucky. Open from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday weekly with some variations for holidays. A must whether a local, passing through or seeking out a small biz to support that does great things for the area, and showcasing a spotlights artists of all walks of lives and ages. Beautiful clean space with a TON of glaze options and clay bodies. Lots of wheels and hand building space and love that it is 24/7, so you can work late at night if that is when you are feeling creative. Also in my opinion the kiln turnaround time is pretty quick. It is always exciting looking through the shelves and finding your pieces. I recommend starting out with a class or two so you can experience everything before committing to membership. Lots of really great teachers too.

Tierra Del Sol focuses on art created by artists with various disabilities, that's their mission. It's a very nice idea and I'm glad I was able to catch the last day of their first exhibit by Evan Hyans, full of color, interesting shapes and vision. Looking forward to check out the next exhibit. Tierra Del Sol is opened Thursdays through Sundays from Noon to 6 pm. More galleries in the area should follow their example and keep the spaces opened in the weekend! I've been participating in ACE Studios' casting director workshops for years. They have always been a wonderful lifeline for getting to introduce yourself to people in casting that you otherwise might never get in the room with so that you can learn more about the audition process and be better prepared for when your opportunity comes. Now that they've moved online due to Covid however, I'd actually like to say that they've been even more helpful. The online calls are about the same length as an in person workshop but now with the virtual setup we're getting more practical tips for the current reality of self taping auditions. By taking a couple of workshops a month and preparing scenes for them I actually have noticed that my acting is improving with the consistent practice, much like it would by taking a regular acting class.

Production was being monitored in real time through security cameras, with constant messages about minor things like moving a chair, shifting a lamp, or leaving a door open briefly. It became distracting and uncomfortable very quickly. A professional sound stage should allow crews to work without excessive micromanagement. Instead, the environment felt overly controlled and tense, with concerns raised over things as minor as small floor marks from normal production activity. It's hard to take the space seriously as a professional working studio when the focus feels more on surveillance than supporting productions. If you're looking for a studio environment where creatives can work comfortably and efficiently, I'd recommend considering other options. It's disappointing to see a space with potential move backward instead of evolving into a true indie filmmaking hub. Hopefully Nvisionate takes this feedback seriously and improves the experience for future productions.
