Hodnett Cooper Real Estate

Hodnett Cooper Real Estate

We booked the Beach Club specifically for its oceanfront location and promised beach access, but…read morethe reality was alarming. The beach access was completely dilapidated--getting to the sand required trekking through murky, insect-filled puddles and pushing through weeds as high as six feet. It felt unsafe and unsanitary, so we ended up driving to a public access point instead, despite paying for on-site beach access. Inside, the condo's condition was just as troubling. The walls and cabinets were stained, closet doors were broken, and the floor was filthy--there was sand and grit under the living room rug, which caused one of us to slip and fall. We spent our first hours vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping just to make the place livable. For the price and reputation, basic cleanliness and maintenance should be a given. If the on-site beach access is unusable, that should be clearly disclosed ahead of time, and housekeeping/maintenance standards need serious attention. Until the beach access is restored and units are properly cleaned and repaired, we cannot recommend Hodnett Cooper Vacation Rentals on St. Simons Island.

While I have submitted several reviews on various businesses I have never left a negative review…read morefor any business until now. I feel it is important to pass on the issues we encountered. My family and I have rented dozens of properties on St Simons Island over the years in various price ranges. The property we rented from Hodnett Cooper is without a doubt the most disappointing of all. We walked in the unit to find dog accessories scattered through out the unit. We are dog people, and do not mind pets at all, but dog toys, feed and water bowls, and dog beds were everywhere. One of the bedrooms closets was stacked with well used dog beds to the point the closet could not be used. Another bedroom's closet floor was littered with the owners' items as was the bath closet. None of the closet space was usable space for us because of the owners' personal items. There were five adults in the three-bedroom unit with five bath towels and five wash cloths. The downstairs ceiling fan clanked so loudly when it was on that it was nearly impossible to sleep. All of the mattresses were worn out. The upstairs rooms were so warm that sleeping was difficult as well. After the second day we returned from dinner to find the air conditioning had stopped working. I reported to afterhours maintenance and was assured someone would be out the next day. Near lunch time after a couple calls to the office a technician arrived and told us not only was the unit not working properly downstairs but there was no air flow to the upstairs rooms at all. I realize mechanical issues can occurred at any time, but once we were told by the repairman there was not air flow upstairs, we knew this was not a new issue. I sent photos of the condition of the unit to the office, but it was never acknowledged, and when I ask an agent she told me she had not had an opportunity to look at the photos. After several conversations we did get moved to another unit but it wasted a day of our vacation. The agent just kept saying how nice the unit we were complaining about and they had never have received a complaint. We ask and were given an additional day at the new unit, but when I ask about compensation for less expensive unit I was told it was the same price. I had already checked pricing, and the unit we were moved into was on average over $40.00 per night less. And although it was through no one's specific fault a siding crew worked all through the day repairing siding on the adjacent unit so we got to hear the pounding of hammers and saws all day. The workers then used the deck on the unit we had paid for to store tools, and take their breaks and lunch. We love St Simons Island and will continue to visit several times a year as we have in the past but never will we consider Hodnett Cooper to lease a unit.

We booked a stay through VRBO for one of the smaller rentals that JIR manages. The communication…read morewas excellent through out the entire deal. The house was clean and well equipped despite the fact we ate out every meal. The icing on the cake was at check out. The island runs on a different schedule. The post office closes daily at 1. I carry a pocket knife where i go and had bought one on the drive out since we didn't check a bag. I meant to mail the knife home before we left. But seeing as the post office was closed i asked our contact at JIR if they would mail it for me. I left the knife with our keys in the drop box when we left early. They packed it neatly and mailed it for me. Its a small thing but its service like that and going above and beyond that makes me refer a business and we will definitely use them again in the future. Great folks to do business with!!

After visiting Jekyll Island as a kid, I always wanted to return, but other travel opportunities…read morehappened, and when my son came along, I began reminiscing about the fun I had, and I wanted so much to share it with him. So in the past few years, I decided to work at making my JI trip a reality. I began checking availability for house rentals on Vrbo and AirBnB, etc., at various times of year, but nothing ever lined up to be affordable and allow dogs. So on a whim in early February this year, I emailed Jekyll Realty to ask if anything was available and duh, I should've done that before! Yes, they had something; yes I could bring my pets; and yes it was available for my desired weeks... AND it was a fantastic deal! I feel really lucky to have dumbly figured this out, and I will make sure to do it in the future. Jekyll Realty manages over 100 vacation properties on Jekyll Island. They have something for every need and budget, from condos to huge beachfront houses with pool! Their office is right in the Beach Village shops, so they're around almost daily if you need them. I have stayed at a lot of vacation rentals, especially in the past year (in NJ, MD, FL, NC, and GA), and I have to say the Jekyll property was by far the cleanest. The furnishings were tasteful and in good shape, the shower had plenty of hot water, kitchen functioned well, there was even a patio and charcoal grill! They also had a closet in the house with vacuum and other cleaning supplies so I could do upkeep as needed. Landscapers came once a week to maintain the lawn and shrubs, and I had a mailbox for package deliveries from Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc. when I needed to make orders during my stay. The neighborhood, like the island, was friendly and safe. The Jekyll Realty staff was quick to respond to my questions before, during, and after my stay. They were always polite and helpful. They left a welcome bag in the house for me upon arrival, which was SO helpful. It was a reusable grocery tote, with dish soap, sponges, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. to make sure I had all my essentials to start my month's stay. This was a lifesaver because I arrived at 7am, after 20 hours of driving from Philly (with miserable detour in Raleigh, and stopping for naps), so the LAST thing I wanted to do was go grocery shopping that day. The welcome kit helped so much, because that first day, I got takeout, hit the beach, and slept! They really were quite thoughtful and good at what they do! I can't wait to book again. This was one of the best trips of my life, and parents, time watching your kids blossom on this island is priceless! On the last day, I did not want to go home. I was bawling. I wanted to thank them so much for my stay but I could not pull myself together to even talk. My cat let out a howl as I crossed the bridge to go home! (I felt the same way!) I miss Jekyll so much, and can't wait to go back!
