After visiting Jekyll Island as a kid, I always wanted to return, but other travel opportunities happened, and when my son came along, I began reminiscing about the fun I had, and I wanted so much to share it with him. So in the past few years, I decided to work at making my JI trip a reality. I began checking availability for house rentals on Vrbo and AirBnB, etc., at various times of year, but nothing ever lined up to be affordable and allow dogs. So on a whim in early February this year, I emailed Jekyll Realty to ask if anything was available and duh, I should've done that before! Yes, they had something; yes I could bring my pets; and yes it was available for my desired weeks... AND it was a fantastic deal! I feel really lucky to have dumbly figured this out, and I will make sure to do it in the future.
Jekyll Realty manages over 100 vacation properties on Jekyll Island. They have something for every need and budget, from condos to huge beachfront houses with pool! Their office is right in the Beach Village shops, so they're around almost daily if you need them.
I have stayed at a lot of vacation rentals, especially in the past year (in NJ, MD, FL, NC, and GA), and I have to say the Jekyll property was by far the cleanest. The furnishings were tasteful and in good shape, the shower had plenty of hot water, kitchen functioned well, there was even a patio and charcoal grill! They also had a closet in the house with vacuum and other cleaning supplies so I could do upkeep as needed.
Landscapers came once a week to maintain the lawn and shrubs, and I had a mailbox for package deliveries from Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc. when I needed to make orders during my stay. The neighborhood, like the island, was friendly and safe.
The Jekyll Realty staff was quick to respond to my questions before, during, and after my stay. They were always polite and helpful. They left a welcome bag in the house for me upon arrival, which was SO helpful. It was a reusable grocery tote, with dish soap, sponges, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. to make sure I had all my essentials to start my month's stay. This was a lifesaver because I arrived at 7am, after 20 hours of driving from Philly (with miserable detour in Raleigh, and stopping for naps), so the LAST thing I wanted to do was go grocery shopping that day. The welcome kit helped so much, because that first day, I got takeout, hit the beach, and slept!
They really were quite thoughtful and good at what they do! I can't wait to book again. This was one of the best trips of my life, and parents, time watching your kids blossom on this island is priceless!
On the last day, I did not want to go home. I was bawling. I wanted to thank them so much for my stay but I could not pull myself together to even talk. My cat let out a howl as I crossed the bridge to go home! (I felt the same way!)
I miss Jekyll so much, and can't wait to go back! read more
