Yummy hot chocolate! Pleasant environment. Close to theaters. Reasonable prices. Easy walk from Old Town Quebec.

A bold claim, and one this modest Avenue Maguire café wears with quiet confidence. The room is bright and unpretentious, a neighbourhood café with a patisserie's polish, its counter of macarons and pastries tempting you before you've even taken a seat. The cooking is honest rather than showy. A little more seasoning and textural contrast would lift it from very good to truly memorable, but this is exactly the kind of brunch you hope to stumble upon in a new city. Service was warm, attentive and unhurried in the best French manner. A worthy detour from the Old City for anyone serious about a proper crêpe. I'd happily return, and I recommend the brunch without hesitation.

It quickly became the best crêperie I experienced during my time in the city. I sampled both the leek and smoked salmon crêpe as well as the bacon and mushroom. Each showcased a level of freshness and care that set this spot apart. The smoked salmon, prepared in-house, carried a delicate sweetness that perfectly complemented the savory crêpe. The bacon, while not crisp in the traditional sense, was deeply flavorful and harmonized beautifully with earthy mushrooms. Dessert was equally memorable. I couldn't resist a box of six macarons, offered in a variety of flavors, each one crafted with finesse -- light, balanced, and satisfying without being overly sweet. L'Épicurien is a place where quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation shine. It's an unassuming spot that rewards those who step inside. I would gladly return and recommend it to anyone in search of an exceptional crêpe experience in Quebec City

Some of our favorite dishes were the beet-cured salmon, jalapeño passion fruit and scallop ceviche, and the beet and apple salad. All drinks were included, including their special Earl Grey tea blend, and the juices tasted very fresh. Our server, Renee, was a delight as well. One tip: if you're hoping for a window table, one of the hostesses mentioned that you need to book far in advance.

I believe you usually have to prepay for the six course tasting menu, which we did not do. We did a la carte, which we were all glad about after tasting the food. The amuse bouche was a piece of salmon on top of what tasted like the fried crispy wontons that you get with Chinese takeout. Weird. My mother had the cucumber appetizer, which just tasted like a palette cleanser. She then had the agnolotti, which I thought was fine, but she didn't eat more than two bites. My dad had the suckling pig, which he nor the bite my mother took found enjoyable. I had the halibut, it was fine, I just don't think I like poached fish. The portions on the a la carte also seem to be the same as the tasting courses, which wasn't a big deal because none of us really enjoyed it. Their cocktails were surprisingly reasonable. My parents had gone last year and loved it, but this year wasn't great. I go to restaurants for the food. This visit we lucked out with great service and a spectacular view. I don't think we'll be going back. Oh, they give you complimentary bread (!!!) and delicious butter. I haven't seen quality bread and butter for a minute. My mom loved it last year, so went again, and np omen was happy

The secret is clearly out: the bright little room on Rue Saint-Jean was busy and filled almost entirely with fellow visitors, so arrive early if you want first pick before the favourites vanish. The croissant is the reason to come. The lamination is handsome, but good looks are common enough. What sets this one apart is the flavour: a clean, unmistakable richness of butter that lingers well after the last flaky shard. Toronto, my home city, has no shortage of beautiful croissants, and many are very good. Bias aside, this one edged them out, if only by a small margin, and in pastry small margins are everything. A worthy pilgrimage for any croissant devotee. My only wish is for a calmer moment in which to savour it.

It gets quite busy during the day, but they are always replenshing and baking fresh pastries and chouquettes. It is a cute, small cafe with seating, wifi, and water. There is no restroom. It is an open kitchen concept where you can see the staff making the pastries! You must try their choux/chouquettes! They rotate the flavors everyday. Here is everything I tried: 1) Choquette: I got a plain one for 50c, and it was light and airy with a nice sweet sprinkle of sugar on top. A great choquette. 2) Earl grey blueberry choquette: Same texture as the unfilled, but stuffed with a blueberry compote that adds a fresh tangy, tart flavor and an earl grey cream that is floral and fragrant. So delicious and the pairing of flavors worked well. 3) Chocolate raspberry choquette: This inside filling I liked less than (2), but still pretty good. The chocolate is rich and follows the same texture as the earl grey cream. The raspberry compote again is tart, fresh, and true raspberry. 4) Blueberry Scone: I enjoyed this. It is huge, and the edges are always the best part. A nice hard sturdy crust with a sprinkling of sugar. Nice blueberries throughout too! The only thing is that the middle is a bit too bready for my liking, but nothing major so I'd still recommend this item to try. 5) Chocolatine: It is a nice croissant, but nothing special in my opinion. The chocolate is nicely soft and melted though, which I appreciated since many chocolatine come with a cold hard chocolate rod inside. 6) Pistachio Strawberry Choquette: Another amazing bite, I love the pistachio cream though I wish there were more of it. The strawberry compote overpowered the pistachio cream, so there was too much strawberry too little pistachio 7) Iced Matcha: It comes unsweetened so you can ask them for either brown sugar or maple syrup. Honestly, I do not recommend the matcha. It was quite...not good..to be frank. 8) Iced Strawberry Matcha: This was not better. Still wouldn't recommend this.
